Today I was out doing a little fly fishing when I came upon a dead deer. It looked as if some coyotes had got to it and it was a recent kill. I didn't think much of it until I walked about 100 yards up the river and found a fawn laying in the grass. it didn't even jump up when I almost stepped on it. Most of the time, this time of year, a fawn will jump up and run off, as it should be several month old by now. But this poor thing looked as if it hadn't eaten in a week. You could see it's ribs and it was so weak it didn't even try to move. :(
I decided to let nature run its course and not nurse it back to health as that would have negative effects also.
I hate to see animals die, but hey, that is what happens.

I agree with you. Nature has it's way and we shouldn't interfere. We humans have a pretty terrible track record when it comes to meddling with nature.

Meddling with nature is only bad when it has negative results but I think I would have fed that poor little fawn.

Natural Selection my friend. Mother Natures creatures have lived and died through various circumstances without any intervention or influence from man for ages. It's the cycle of life in nature.

I agree, mother nature can take care of herself. Natural Selection at work. She has been handling things a lot longer than we have.
This made me think of something. What do you guys think? I was watching TV the other night and there was a show about these gator hunters that respond to gators in pools, private lakes and yards in south FL. They catch the gator then "terminate" it. I told my wife how arrogant of us as human beings to destroy their habitat and build OUR houses then "terminate" the creatures that instinctively know that area. The least they could do would be release it in the Everglades or something. Why terminate it?
Anyway, any input?

The same thing happens here but with bears, cougars, and moose. Usually here they relocate the animal, and if it causes problems again they terminate it. I am not a fan of terminating animals just because they wandered onto somebody's land, but on the other side, if the animal becomes an ongoing problem there is a need to end the problem.

i once saw someone had a tattoo of a camel on their toe...maybe i'll get a moose tattoo on my knuckle
