Greetings you bald creatures !
Pretty straight forward...
Which version of Van Halen did / do you prefer?
The original line up with David Lee Roth.....or the later lineup with Sammy Hagar.
Doesn't mean you thought one or the other "sucked".....just who did you like best.
If yer gonna post, please vote....if yer gonna vote, please post
Me? Hands down.....love the David Lee version
-
i enjoy hagar but van halen was with david lee roth.
-
Diamond Dave, Hands down!
I mean Sammy seems like a great guy and all but seriously... DLR all the way.

Drop Dead Legs... that song changed my life. Seemed that every time I saw a really hot girl I would hear that song in my head...
One of those songs that a girl in daisy dukes and a bikini top can really wash a car to. :)
-
Diver Down is one of my favorite albums/CD's! O0 DLR all the way!
And yes I did vote.
-
Van Halen with DLR....all the way. Because Eddie is the reason I started playing guitar
I still listened when Hagar came in but not like when Roth was in the band.
I liked Van Hagar despite sammy...
I liked Van Halen because of Roth/EVH.
The first Van halen album and Fair Warning are my two favorites...
Favorite song....gotta be "On fire !!" r*%
-
DLR !!!!!! All they way !!!!! by the way robmeister that jacket is you !!!! you'll get some leg tonite for sure !!!!!
-
...you'll get some leg tonite for sure !!!!!
I like the line that runs up the back of the stocking....
-
I got it bad, got it bad, got it bad!
I'm hot for teacher!
-
c'mon gang....make putting up a poll worth it..
Vote if yer gonna post.....I know it's easy to just go, "DFR...all the way...YEAH>>>>"
but vote, for cryin' out loud
-
David Lee Roth was the ultimate front man!
And yes, I voted :)
-
Is there any question who was better
-
I voted, and it's a definite vote for DLR. Van Hagar was ok, but DLR brought the crazy, party energy to the band, and Eddie -- well what can you say? I like all the VH stuff with DLR, but one thing I will never forget is the first time I saw the video for Panama with DLR flying across the stage... what a madman. Hangin' with that band must have been like living in party central.
-
Van Halen was never Van Halen for me after DLR left the band. And yes I voted............ O0
-
I don't even know who Sammy Hagar is! :px
-
You've gotta feel a little bit sorry for Sammy when you see the results of the poll.
-
Does this mean were going to have a Arnel Pineda vs Steve Perry poll ?

Sammy Hagar --- unless DLR got a personality transplant
-
Sammy rocks, I was listening to him before I'd heard of Van Halen. But Van Halen wasn't the same without DLR.
-
while Van Hagar was good, Van Halen was DLR. It was 2 different bands really. I got to go with the original line up.
-
The original sound of Van Halen with DLR was one of a kind.
That being said, I actually think it was a better band with Sammy on lead vocals.
Like Medic, I was listening to Hagar before Van Halen. Standing Hampton still stands as one of my all time favorite albums.
-
OMG SAMMY ALL THE WAY!! I never could stand David Lee "Broth"... I once smoked a bunch of hashish at his old VH concert and fell asleep, thats how little DLR did for me...
I know Im gonna piss alota guys off but thats my truth so phhhhhtttttt! :P
-
I grew up with the DLR so he will always be the real lead singer of Van Halen.
Having said that, ever since he had that short lived radio show in New York when he replaced Howard Stern, he kind of creeps me out.
I think he lost is mind.
-
stemikger,
I think he has lost his mind. I don't know if it was a link from this site, but I remember seeing a video of him doing a cover of a country song (I think), and it was downright scarey and pathetic. Talk about the glory days being over for him. I saw that Mick Jagger just turned 65. You may not like him or whatever product he puts out there today, but he is still Mick Jagger. DLR... who knows?
-
Van Hagar all the way. He may not be the original one...but I really can't stand David Lee Roth. The man is a stupid nut job. Did I mention I don't like him? Oh, his voice is like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. RUNNING WITH THE DEVIL!!! Well, keep running...don't turn back! Keep going! Hell suits you and your horrible 'music'.
Seriously though, I am not all that passionate about it...I just don't care for the man.
-
There would be no Van Halen without Diamond Dave. O0
Sammy just picked up where the real front man left off,
after that, the band didn't have any more hits. :(
-
david lee.... without questions...
WARHAWK O0

No hits with Hagar? Maybe they weren't hits to you, but I could say the same thing about the hits they had with Dave.
-
there were a few big hits with Hagar, but to me it was a different band and sound, still very good in its own right
-
There was only one real Van Halen and it was fronted by DLR. I was into the band from the beginning, and while I did like them with Sammy too, it just wasn't the same band.
I felt they should have changed the name. It's like the whole Guns n' Roses debacle.
Without the rest of them, it's really not the same. Don't get me started on Axle :/O
-
Ok...built a Van Halen playlist on Napster to jam to while I reorganize my office.
EXCLUDED ANY AND ALL VAN HAGAR STUFF :x! B@N!
-
while Van Hagar was good, Van Halen was DLR. It was 2 different bands really. I got to go with the original line up.
I agree with nomad. I grew up listening to the original Van Halen, but Van Hagar put out a few great songs too. The original Van Halen wins by a great margin!

Good point, B.Weet....I would never be so narrow minded as to say anything "sucked" except maybe some of the rap sh*t....especially the hardcore gangsta rap
There was some good stuff by Van Hagar. Part of the D. Lee is the era and the memories.... O0
-
Meister!
Love the fine print! :*)) ;D :*))
-
Diamond Dave - the original and the best! O0
-
Man you made the poll a little hard for me to vote on....I liked both of them...they each added their own flair....You should have put a topic that included both DLR and Sammy.......
-
NEITHER!!! GARY CHERONE WAS THE BEST VH FRONTMAN :*)) :*)) :*)) :*)) :*)) :*))
Honestly though, I gotta swim against the tide on this one and go with Sammy. He was with them when they recorded my fave VH song ever - "Judgment Day."
