My favorite is the original "Lethal Weapon".
I was really disappointed in the sequels, all of them. Mel Gibson's character, IMO, in the original was compelling because he was "on the ragged edge", but, I thought they took a guy who was always one minute from decorating the ceiling with his own brains and turned him into a clown in the first sequel. I don't think they wavered from that clowning the rest of the way. I was really able to relate to the character initially but they lost me after the first one. Plus, I thought the interaction between Gibson and Glover in the first one was really great, Glover never knowing when Gibson would go off or what he would do. I think they tamed Gibson's character a little too much.
Which cop movies rank high on your "favorites" list?
-
The Untouchables and anything from the Dirty Harry series.
-
Copland - great movie - my favorite Sly Stallone role.
The Onion Field - I remember seeing this as a kid and being blown away by it.
-
Well, My absolute favorite is "Bon Cop, Bad Cop"
It's a Canadian movie starring Colm Feore and Patrick Huard. It I highly doubt any of you have heard of it, and I don't know how much you would enjoy it as it's in both English and French, so unless you have a basic knowledge of Quebec French you probably wouldn't get the whole movie. It's also very typically Canadian in that it's all about hockey!!!
After that I'd have to say "Hot Fuzz"

I have a few:
Beverly Hills Cop
Police Academy
Die Hard
Dirty Harry
the Untouchables
-
Heat
-
To Live and Die in LA
-
Heat
I liked HEAT, too. The bank shootout was the best gunfight scene, IMO, of any modern day cop film, ever.
-
The Departed, hands down.
I liked Super Troopers and Hot Fuzz for cop comedy.
-
Lethal Weapon, Untouchables, Dirty Harry, Cobra, Police Academy series, Super Troopers, Hot Fuzz that' s about all I can think of right now.
-
The Original -Walking Tall (not the latetest one with The Rock) .....True story of Tenesse Sheriff Buford Pusser.
-
Dirty Harry
and the Die Hard Movies
-
borat....... ;D
-
Blazing Saddles
-
Training Day
Die Hard-s
Bullitt
Kindergarten Cop
Night Patrol
The Departed
SWAT
-
"Fargo" I had a cop friend tell me that it really shows the way things usually happen. Most crimes are solved, not through brilliant police work, but because the criminals eventually do something dumb...
-
Training Day
and
The original Walking Tall
Have to give some more love to "Blazing Saddles" too, Mel Brooks is a genius! O0
-
Dirty Harry
Police Academy
Walking Tall ( Original )
-
The first ones that come to mind for me are:
LA Confidential (I can't believe I'm the first one to mention it)
Heat
Hana-bi (AKA Fireworks)
Beverly Hills Cop
Hot Fuzz
Hard Boiled
Infernal Affairs (much better than its remake, The Departed)
The Naked Gun
Violent Cop
-
Die Hard (Willis is sly in number 4)
and Lethal Weapon.
I love the Danny Glover quote "I'm gettin too old for this $h@t!"

Being French Canadian myself, I absolutely loved Bon Cop, Bad Cop

Like most of you, I too like the Lethal Wepon series, and the Die Hard franchise, however my all time favorite would have to be The Fugative with Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones.
-
Fargo was great but I lean toward Heat with DiNiro, Pacino and Pitt.

I forgot about that one! I'll have to watch it again, it was good
