There are some interesting fella's on this forum and I thought it would be cool to see what you guys do with your free time as far as hobbies. First of all my FAMILY (wife, 2 daughters, and 1 son) comes first, but in the free time I do have you can find me:
Playing Golf
Racing ATV's in the ATVCCS (ATV Cross Country Series) for Texas - Chicken Hawk #999
Riding my Harley Davidson V-Rod (my wife hates when I pull it out of the driveway - LOL!)
Playing and Writing Music - I've sold one song, but it required me to sign a non-disclosure agreement so I can't say the name of the song, but you have probably heard it on the radio
I do a lot of charity work for the Down Syndrome Guild of Texas
POST UP......What floats your boat!!!!
-
Music is my big thing. I play guitar, sing and I'm writing some songs. Not really interested in selling much at this point. I wanna play my own stuff and maybe sell it later. Other than that, I just spend time with the family. I like hot air ballooning too, but my pilot currently lives in Denver and I haven't flown since............it's been almost a year I think. I have crewed for him since then though. Wife got a ride during balloon fiesta this year though. VERY enjoyable and beautiful sky when the balloons fill it.
-
i work too damn much. whenever i do find time i spend it with my family wife and 2 boys. as for fun: fishing is my passion/obssesion. coaching my boys in sports takes up alot of it but it is SO worth it. i like to draw, paint, and cook. if you like what you see you can find me at...........wait, wrong site. sorry

I've always wanted to try hot air ballooning! It seems really peaceful. Sweet hobby man!

I have a lot of respect for those that can draw and paint. I've tried, but unless you want a good stick person you won't be happy with my work. Maybe in the next life I will be able to paint! Great hobby!

I can't either, but when I student taught last spring, one of my students designed his own shirts. He painted the scenes/characters and everything. One of the subs we had loved to paint and gave lessons on the side, I got her to meet him and get him started on that path.
He had a lot of artistic talent, and I hope I see his name mentioned in a newspaper in the future.

It's a blast. I think the best part is the tailgating, but I am biased...

... beautiful sky when the balloons fill it.
Yer not kidding...we have them go up in MULTIPLES here in the Denver burbs...not far from our house. It's gorgeous! Sometimes they drift over our backyard, pretty dang close.

You've probably seen my buddy's balloon. It's a dead cat, grey with black ears that are ten feet tall, X's for eyes and tongue sticking out. He calls it 1 down 8-2 go

I'll keep an eye out. What's the season they do it.
This is weird, but I seem to recall seeing a balloon like that
-
He likes to fly as often as he can. Doesn't really matter what time of year. He told me that the last time he flew up there it was -6 degrees. He flew for an hour and a half and barely used any fuel at all.

I’m pretty simple. The family I have now is my wife, my one son and me. With the family, school and work, my old hobbies and interest have fallen on the priority list. I enjoy keeping in shape and car racing.
I sort of fit the description “jack of all trades but master of none†when it comes to hobbies. I dabbled in several different things ranging from photography, web design, mma and cooking.
-
Great idea for a topic Chicken Hawk!
My biggest hobby is chasing women... ;D j/k because that's more of a job!!
I love photography... got a Canon 30D a few months ago and even though it's my second digital SLR I'm still learning how to use it. World of difference between film and digital!
-
I off road and spend my spare time working on my jeep and my buddies buggy. I love welding and building things from metal. Dabble in woodworking a bit, and collect straight razors. During the summer I ride my Honda VFR every chance I get.

Golf, running/fitness, cooking, wine, spending time in the Lake Tahoe area, and watching my 8 yr old daughter and 6 year old son grow up way too fast.

Wave back, do you wheel your's? Or is it a pavement pounder? Nothing wrong with pavement pounding, sometimes I wish mine was streetable again. It's been banged up, turned over, and cut up so much, pretty much off road only.

You guys are gonna laugh, but that is really the hardest part about being an adult (even though I still act 12) is watching my kids get bigger. My youngest just turned one years old. She is our last child (we have three) and she is already growing up so quick and won't be a baby much longer :-\.
I took her to the park by our house this last weekend!

Done some minmal stuff... trails through my folks' land and such, but it's my DD so I can't go too crazy! I still remember my first jeep... bought it brand spankin' new for $9990 in '92. Second one was a used 95... this one bought brand new (05 Rocky Mountain... softtop + half doors) for $21K after my discount! Can't believe how expensive they gotten over the years!
-
Good looking family. And no Rob, I'm not talking about you and your baby jeeps.
-
Very cute kids, look out, they grow up to be teenagers.
Rob, 97 I bought used in 2000, I won't mention how much I've dropped into it since.

JEEPS are cool. If I didn't have so much $$$ tied up in ATV (quads) I would get one!

Have you seen the new ones yet? I'm not liking them too much... especially the 4-door! ??? ??? ???
Of course, I was the same way when they went from the square headlights to the round ones... swore I'd never buy one!
-
I like them ok, I think the control arms are much better, longer and beefier, more stable.
I didn't like the sqaure headlights, at the time I had a CJ, loved the TJ's when they finally came out, but now I'm looking for an older YJ (sqaure headlights) to build up for the wife.

My hobbies now a days are managing Sly Bald Guys, though this is quickly turning into a part time job! I just recently got serious into playing golf, so I'm taking lessons in that. I love to snow ski in the winter and wakeboard in the summer.
-
When I'm not working, doing comedy or fighting off the lay-days I do have a few hobbies.
I swing dance (now taking ballrom and latin) and I'm into retro culture (40's & 50's only)
I go to classic car shows (even though I don't own one.....yet)
In the summer I sail on the Hudson River
I'm an inventor and hold a U.S. Patent
Noner

Welcome to GOLF Tyler! I'm 35 years old and I have been playing since I was 12 and it is a great game. It requires patience most of all because as long as I have been playing I can still go out and shoot close to 100!!!! LOL!!!!

Thanks Hawk! I know what you mean about still shooting close to 100. My dad has been playing for 5 or 6 years now. There's been a couple times in the past year where I will go out with him and shoot better than he does...LOL!! Then we'll go out the next day and I don't even come close!

I stopped keeping score in golf a long, long time ago... much more enjoyable that way! ;D

You just have to remember when you are having a bad day on the course........It's just a game. LOL! I've shot as low as a 68 and then turned around the next day and shot in the mid 90's. It's crazy. I have a lot of respect for the pros that can consistantly shoot low. I scratched one of my "life goals" off the list last year when me and one of my buddies went and played Pebble Beach in California. Man that was awesome! This picture is taken on the 18th hole at Pebble Beach.

It's called "Golf" because F*CK was already taken.
I'm heading to Bandon Dunes in Oregon next Saturday. Looking forward to some dude time.
-
I alway keep score for golf. On 18 I'm about a 12.
I'll be so happy when I can only lose a ball at every other hole. ;)

:DLMAO!!! Good one Schro.

Thanks. Someone once said Golf also could stand for, Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden. Personally, I prefer my definition.
Yeah, the cost of golf balls sure can add up. I can't understand people paying upwards of $50 a dozen for Pro V1's. I don't understand that. I have played them and the performance doesn't justify the cost.
By the way, I played my first round yesterday since becoming SLY....a smooth little 76 with a couple of holes where I hit the ball too far and went over the green. Maybe I'm the "anti-Sampson". Ya know, the story where the strong man lost all his strength when someone cut his hair.
'Scuse me while I flex. :o

For me it has to be rowing, there is nothing like getting a boat moving at real speed with eight guys working as hard as they can, even better at night when all you can hear is the woooosh as eight blades drive through the water. I also love sports, watching football (or soccer for you guys). Things are about to change with the impending first child in June, no idea what it is going to be yet, but one thing is for sure, it will be a Plymouth Argyle fan!! So in anticipation of this I have started indoor rowing, got a rowing machine in my spare room, and race against guys all over the country.

I buy all my golf balls from this place: https://www.usedgolfballdeals.com (https://www.usedgolfballdeals.com)
They have quality BALLS for cheap (MAN o MAN that doesn't sound good!! LOL!!!).
Seriously, they have great prices and I have always been satisfied with the quality. I like Callaway golf balls and they are the cheapest I have found. They are used, but you can't tell.
-
Not sure they still have them, but Golfsmith was selling Maxfli Revolution Solids for $10/dz. I still have 5 or 6. Whenever I see my dad, he loads me up with NXT's. He lives on a golf course in Vega$ and is always ball hawking, especially after the course hosts a tournament. Usually, the tourneys are filled with drunken golfers that get a couple of dozen balls as tee prizes. Funny stuff.
-
I "won" a sleeve of Pro V1's in Palm Springs over Thanksgiving. There was a guy setup at one of the par 3's that had a competition for charity. You had to pay $5 and if you got the ball on the green you got a free sleeve. If you got the ball within the length of the club you were using to the hole, then you won a Calloway Driver. I was abou 3 in from winning the driver ;D

Ah golf....the one activity that can drive even the most pious of men to profanity. I love it.
I decided a while back that golf is more fun when you have to try to hit it around the tree and pray it carries the water. If it went where you wanted every time, where would the fun be.
It's also been said that there are two things in life you don't have to be good at to enjoy. Golf is one of them....LOL
Outside of golf I dig movies. DVD collection stands at around 300 and the folks at Hollywood Video know me by name. I also enjoy watching boxing and MMA. A couple of years ago I helped start a boxing website and I got to spend some time getting to know folks I've watched on TV for years. I did some writing for Showtime too. That was fun. Haven't done anything journalistic in a while but I still enjoy watching the fights.

By the way....I think I'm a little behind on the "laughing" acrostics that some of you use.
LOL = "laughing out loud"
ROTF= "rolling on the floor"
LMAO = ??
What are some others?
-
LMAO = Laughing My Ass Off
You also see combinations such as ROFLMAO
It gets a little out of hand at times but I guess it's easier than typing everything out.
-
By jove I think I've got it!!

Two great quotes BigJeffrey. I put the sticks in the back of the Jeep this summer and was ready to get back into the game ... but did not have the time.
Tyler - at the Meeting of the Sly a golf tourney should be planned

I gotta get a Jeep, man....d'ja hear we got more snow. I don't mind it. Makes it BEAUTIFUL around here in the burbs. The only thing is I don't have a four X drive. Have to wait around until the plows get things driveable.
I've thought a long time about getting a Jeep. I think it's about time. These heavy snows hit about every 3 to 5 years.
-
My jeep sucks in ice and snow. Took it out one year when we had a bad ice storm and played. Tires are too big and wide, no grip, front locker kept locking, spinning me around, was fun, but wouldn't want to drive to town with it. ;D
-
I just saw this thread for the first time. Interesting.
For me other than my business, my family, and my church, all of my "spare" time is involved with skateboard racing. It's a great sport that has been overshadowed for a long time by street skating but is on the verge of a major comeback especially because of the growing longboard scene.
This pic is from the last race of the season back in November here in North Carolina. That hill is a soap box derby hill that is affectionately known at the "Elevator Shaft". Whoever the dude was that orginally designed that hill for soap box cars he didn't like kids very much...ha ha...the top of that hill has a 17% grade! Skateboarders go well over 45 mph on that hill...I imagine soap box cars with 10 year old kids driving them screamed down it as well.

Well...whatever the make/model/tire size/width that would work.....a little ground clearance and 4-by traction would get us out of the driveway a lot sooner in these conditions than my Chrysler sedan and minivan.
-

Same boat here, MC....when it comes right down to it....I don't really have much "spare" time.

Doesn't matter how many wheels are driving when you're on ice! :o
Snow for me isn't bad... But I also don't drive my jeep like a maniac when conditions are less than ideal! I laugh at most SUV drivers thinking they are invincible... and I keep laughing as I throw them a tow strap so I can pull them out!! ;D
-
My old '85 F-150 didn't do so bad in the snow. Majority of the roads I traveled the first day after the snow had not been plowed yet. I used 4HI until I got to my grandparent's house. I had to shift into 4LO to get out of their driveway. Once or twice I intentionally tried to get stuck and couldn't. Not too bad for a stock straight 6 with an open rear axle.

Yeah...even though we've lived here for 3 years now...we're not fully prepared like veteran or native Coloradans. Anything with a little clearance and all-wheel drive beats walking to the store when conditions are unsavory.
You wouldn't believe the gadgets that came outa the neighbors garages....snow mobiles....snow blowers....dog sleds.
I'm standin' there waving to everyone....trying to hide my antiquated snow shovel behind my back.
-
don't hide it. just tell them it is part of your fitness plan. i have shoveled my share of snow. it is a workout.
-
Yes it certainly is. The local news stations reminded everyone that by law they are accountable for snow/ice on the sidewalk in front of their house. Therefore the wife put me to work last week. It didn't help that every store in town was sold out of snow shovels and ice melt. So I had to use the old school square nose shovel. Good times, good times!

So when you see a bunch of idiots like me trying to golf but laughing becuase one guy is hitting in the trees and the others have +8 on a hole we are not golfing, we are FLOGING!

I love watching/playing sports. Favorite is baseball. I also play/manage in church league softball, which can be quite entertaining.
I also enjoy playing sports video games and reading the sports page daily. Plus browsing the internet of course.
-
I spend most of my spare time with my wife and two boys doing the family thing...watching the tube, eating, and snowboarding. Yes we are all knuckle-chasers. That's where you can find my tribe each weekend during the winter season. I also enjoy riding my Honda Shadow Spirit 750. I also play the acuostic guitar.
