When I first started using it a few months back, it seemed like the s*** --but now, it is no less akin to taking an electirc sander to your head, AND HAVING TO SHAVE AREAS OF YOUR HEAD RAW OVER AND OVER AGAIN --AND STILL, not getting close enough.
I've tried pretty much every shaving cream/gel out there --and, although some make the shaver move faster, I still have to go over areas repeatedly --WHICH, OF COURSE ,MAKES FOR PLENTY OF IRRITATION AND BLEEDING SPOTS.
And get this, I actually have to use ANOTHER SHAVER to shave the base of the back of my head --the Panasonic for some reason just won't even get this area AT ALL.
So now, I'm coming to you guys to see what I should look for in terms of just a regular razor --as this overwhelms me a bit --there being so many out there and all.

Try a HeadBlade (http://www.headblade.com) It's what I use and I wouldn't trade it for any other razor on the market.
-
I had the same issue K_floss. I jumped from the Wet/Dry to the HeadBlade.
-
Headblade does the trick for most of my dome, though I do touch up a bit around the ears with my Schick Extreme3.
Good luck!

Try the Gilette Fusion that way you will only have to use one razor for the whole job.
-
Thanks guys!! --ANYTHING!
My showers had gotten to the point where they've been taking anywhere from 30-40 minutes!! --by which time, my fingers are so water-logged I can't even hold the damn thing!
-
Another HeadBlade fan here............ i can't imagine shaving my head without it.

I agree with Tom. You can't headblade your face. And I don't like the idea of having to deal with two razors.
Has anyone tried headblading their face?
Does TimmJ use a headblade.... ??? Maybe.... ::)
Timmay you're gone only two days. I we miss his profound posts and life experiences already. :'(

I'm standing firmly with my Panasonic Linear. I used it this morning and got a great shave. No irriatation, no cuts. I use an ample amount of Anthony Pre-Shave oil. I agree it can irritate if you have to shave the same area over and over. I just don't have my blade shave routine as refined as I hope to someday.

Rafter, I HB my face. I just flip the blade around and go to town. Head and face all done in a few minutes.

My advice is Fusion, Manual or Power, in more than 8 months never a serious slice or nick, just four or five red spots that got a little out of control--I use 10% Benzoyl Peroxide get to calm that down, some Nivea shave balm and now for the summer a couple of shots of Banana Boat to keep the oily/sweat down and provide SPF protection. You won't regret the Fusion, and it doesn't require any technique to avoid cuts, etc. Get a good gel, Nivea has a new one out, or headslick. But the Headblade, for me and others, (1) doesn't give a close shave, and (2) requires skill. I believe in KISS, and FUSION. Keep It Simple Stupid.

Well, it would make sense to be able to use just one razor for the whole kit and caboodle.
Yeah, I dunno --I went and bought the HB last night (haven't used it yet), but the more I think about it, I'm not really that bowled over by their other products I've been using, so you may have a point, saint.

Try it and let me know how you like it. If you have any probems I'll try to give you some pointers. :)

I actually just called the Gillette company (I've been known to do that sort of thing when I "research" stuff), and was told by the rep that most of the head-shavers who've called her actually prefer the Mach 3 for head shaving.
I just talked to a friend of mine who also shaves his head --he said that's actually what he uses.
Guess I'll just have to try all of them and see which one works best for moi.
I'll definitely keep you guys posted!

Wow, they actually know their products! I prefer the Mach3 to the Fusion.

OK, I think I may have either jumped-the-gun regarding my Panasonic --or I'm just a lost-cause altogether!!
Tonight I tried the Mach 3 --keep in mind, this was the very first time EVER I used a straight razor.
The thing basically TORE APART my face (blood everywhere!) --yet despite that, STILL left it MUCH rougher than the Panasonic does.
But it actually wasn't as bad on my head.
Unfortunately, though, the problem was, it also wasn't AS GOOD on my head either.
Although I didn't have to repeatedly go over areas AS MUCH as I did with the Panasonic --I still, nonetheless, HAD to --with still HUGE areas still left not as smooth as others.
At least, though, it didn't cause the irritation on my head the Panasonic does from doing the same thing.
My shower still took JUST AS LONG, if not LONGER, than with the Panasonic.
Guess I could try the HB next, but I don't see it as any better if the Mach 3, supposedly KNOWN for head shaving, failed for me --I can't see the HB working.
WOULD the Fusion be any better? --or am I just looking to get more of the same?
Thoughts?

As a Panasonic Wet/Dry user myself, I have to ask what do you use with it prior to, and while shaving? I found at first that it was like you said, taking a sander to the head, but only when I was just shaving with it in the shower without and shaving oil or shaving cream. So I started to experiment and I found a routine that works amazingly well and I get no irritation whatsoever.
So here's what I do, I start off with Proraso Pre Shave cream and leave it on for a few minutes, then I jump in the shower and let the hot water soften my hair and open the pores. after a minute or so of that, I put on some shaving oil then some shaving cream. I know this sounds like a lot, but I'm a pasty white former redhead with extremely sensitive skin and I've found that using this routine I get no irritation and a smooth, clean shave every time. I do however use my Fusion to clean around the ears and once or twice a week I'll actually do a complete head shave with the Fusion.
Another thing to keep in mind, is that depending on what you use as a lubricant, you could be helping the blades deteriorate faster. You have to make sure that you clean them properly and thoroughly after every use. Don't forget too, that you have to read carefully in the instructions for your specific razor as to how long the blades are expected to last and divide that by 3 because that life expectancy is based on the average amount of facial hair growth shaving that ever day. Now though, you are shaving your head with it which is at least twice the area of space as your face, so the blades will dull sooner especially if you aren't taking proper care of them. Personally, I remove them and soak them in alcohol after every shave and that helps keep them nice and clean.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you end up doing and I hope you stay sly.

I am a headblade user as well, it took a little getting used to...... but now i can shower shave in a few min. I think you should give the HB a try.

Yes, but that's a personal opinion. Since you're not used to using a blade at all, you may have moved it side to side, rather than straight or pretty much straight strokes. If you look at the Fusion blade assembly you'll see that the blade is pretty much surrounded by a rubbery material and a lubricating strip. The trim blade is another thing all together, and I can see that you could really slice w/ that. Just use the Fusion, Manual or Power, w/ some gel and baby oil and it should be smooth--pun intended--sailing.--It's just my opinion and I know there are a lot of HB SBG fans out there.

I'm currently using a Wilkinson Sword Xtreme3
It has flexible blades that bend to the shape of my head and I don't seem to cut myself so often.
-
Yes, a really excellent razor and damn near impossible to find in the US. It's the Schick Xtreme 3 razor here. You can get the disposables easily, but the replaceable blade razors are hard to come by.
