Title: Electric HeadShavers....
Post by: BlackJamesRackham on June 15, 2008, 02:34:43 PM
So those of you who use an electric to shave your head, do you still find it necessary to use a preshave oil or lube? I have a Braun 360 (8000 series), and they don't recommend using anything when you use it on your face. So I was wondering if the same is true for your dome. Actually, I'm not even sure if I can use that on my dome as I am guessing it's intended for the face. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Panasonic Linear ES8043.  It is truly Wet or Dry.  I always use Pre-Shave Oil and sometimes use shaving creme or gel.  I just wash the shaving head under the running water frequently.  I'm getting razor blade quality head shaves using the electric.

Thanks SimplyRed. So I would assume you can only use a lubricant with a wet/dry electric. That makes sense since you can wash those out.

Yeah, I would suggest a wet/dry anyway, cause that way you can use it in the shower as well and you get the water softening your hair at the same time.  I shave with a blade on occasion, but mostly I use the electric and I'll use this stuff called Proraso Pre Shaving Cream before then I'll just use my shaving cream and I always get that razor blade quality shave, like Red mentioned, without any irritation whatsoever.  I still use the Body Shop Razor Relief after every shave cause I've found it's a great aftershave for moisturizing and it leaves no oily residue.  I use the Panasonic ES8164.  http://www.shavercentre.com/canada/panasonic_es8164_procurve.html

That is a mighty nice looking shaver, Fortin. Quite pricey, but I think it might be worth it. Especially if you get razor like shaves which are irritation free.

Yeah, that's why I went with it, sure it was expensive, but in all honesty, it's been well worth it.

I use the same one only an older model -- I'll often use a headblade and then finish up with the electric BTW www.shavercentre.com is great to deal with

Hey guys, I saw some stuff called "pre shave powder sticks" made for electric shavers. Anyone have any experience with this type of stuff? Is it worth it? I have a dry shaver, so I'm not sure if I can use a pre-shave oil/gel, but I was wondering about powder?

Because of the "thing" on my head I've gone to using an electric on my noggin. I'm using a Norelco 8140XL. Not the most expensive on the market but it does a good job.

I just use the Williams Electric Shave prior to shaving. The stuff is cheap and works well for lubricating and making for a closer shave.

Hey Trucker, that's good to know. I havent been able to find the powder stick, so I'm gonna go ahead and use the Williams. How'd you find the shave in terms of irritation/bumps? Or was it a pretty "friendly" shave?

I don't get any irritation or bumps at all. I do follow up the shave with HeadLube which soothes and conditions the skin.

I also use the Panasonic 8043 (alternate between that and the Fusion) and it does work good. I did find that it tears up my neck though so I just leave that to my Fusion.

BJR

I use the 360 as well. I use Lectric Shave lotion let it dry, and then use the Remington shave stick. That makes the shaves a heck of alot more slick. The talc in the stick helps glide. Dont press really hard with the razor either. Just let it glide!! Booyah!

I just ordered this guys --Panasonic wet/dry with nano blades(whatever that is ...)
http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=173423&catid=36465
This got really good reviews all around the net and 104 is the cheapest price BY FAR. Its wet/dry so I really liked that--no mess in the sink.
I will post a review when I get it.

Hey DJ,

Here's my suggestion for using the Panasonic shaver:  You'll want to prep the scalp same as if you'd be shaving with a blade.  If you don't have shaving oil get some and use it with the Panasonic and shave in the shower.  Be careful when you start using the electric of sensitive areas.  I had some minor irritation on the back of my head at my neckline because I shaved it too many times the first time around.

If you haven't seen it already, check the Definitive Guide to Shaving Your Head at: http://www.allaboutshaving.com/

thanks Red Ill give it a whirl.  Any recommendations on shaving oil ? Ive never used any shaving oil...just gels or creams.  I do seem to break out easily so I  am trying to be careful
Title: Re: Electric HeadShavers....
Post by: Sly Red on July 23, 2008, 04:12:56 PM
I'd start with something like Shave Secret Oil and see if my skin would tolerate it since you're proned to breakouts.

http://www.shavesecret.com/ Should be available at Wal-Mart, right guys?

My personal favorite to use with the Panasonic is Anthony Pre-Shave Oil.  It is quite a heavyweight as shaving oils go, but with the speed that the Panasonic shaver runs I feel that I need the extra protection.  It's the high-performance synthetic that high RPM shavers need  O:O

Another one that's in my medicine chest is Pacific Shave Oil.  This one was recommended by Tyler.  I use it for face shaving.

I always wash my face and head with soap after my shave to remove the oil.

I'm new to it but i've tried both the electric and the blade. I have a panasonic 8043 electric and it is what i used to first time. Came out smooth. Then yesterday i used a blade for the first time and there's a huge difference. I pretty much lasted all day until i had any stubble at all. With the electric i had stubble by lunchtime. Of course with the electric you can shave while your sitting on your couch or driving your car. Either one works, but the blade is faster and last longer.  Just my 2 cents.

I did some research and ES6002 seems to be a European model.  Like Hookem, I have an ES8043.  The features of both models are very similar.  I think you'd be very happy with the ES6002.  For an electric the Panasonics shave very close.  The downside is you need to shave wet with this and possibly use shaving oil to avoid irritation.  Check out the video on this page:

Wassup fellas. Just wanted to let you know I received my Panasonic ES8109S
Charged it for an hour and it was at 100% charge.  I shaved last night with it...MAN does this thing shave close.
VERY close to the same shave I was getting with my mach 3 and NO irritation at all.  I used williams shaving oil from cvs...
Shaved my face and head. Nice thing is you can use this in the shower so no mess around the sink /floor. I am sold on this razor 1000 percent...I couldnt imagine getting a closer shave with an electric.

Blade shave in the evening and electric shave in the morning with my

Hello everyone, first post.

After reading this fine forum for a little bit I decided to go with a Panasonic ES 8077. I tried it last night and it worked great. I ended up buying Head Slick to use while I shave since I couldn't find any other shaving oils at my local pharmacy. I have Lectric Shave, but it didn't feel slick enough for me.

I used the shaving method posted on allaboutshaving.com and blasted through my stubble in about 2 minutes, which was nice.

My only problem is that the place where the spine meets the base of the skull got chewed up a little by the machine. is there anything I can do to speed up the healing process? I am looking to shave probably on Tuesday, and by then I would like to be rid of the irritation.

I just wanted to say, the machine did a fantastic job. I just got the St. Ives Apricot Scrub last night so I will be using that regularly now.

I have been alternating between razors and electric, my electric Braun is old and has seen better days but still gets the job done ,although it takes longer than shaving but I do not get  the bumps either.I just use the ole lectra shave and it seems to be fine.

I've decided today that my Panasonic is making me have bumps. I have used only a razor in the shower the last 3 days and have seen marked improvement. Today i shaved half my head with my electric and the other half with a razor. I could feel the electric beating the hell out of my head. Maybe it's just me but i'm done with the electric on my head and i've only shaved my face with an electric for 10 years. Good luck to ya.

Just FYI for folks who have been thinking about getting an electric shaver.
Amazon.com has an instant $30 rebate if you spend over $100 on a Panasonic product.
Enter code PANAAUG8 at checkout. This is good till the end of August.
Good time to pick up a Vortex. I'll probably pick up a spare since I love the things.

It's actually a valid question.  I move my electric razor back and forth, both with and against the grain.  On the sides sometimes I have to move the razor both up and down and diagonally to get the hair shaved close.  It's all dependent on the direction your hair grows from your scalp.  Run your fingers over the hair and when you feel that you've made the hair stand up, then that's the way you need to shave.

II have both aNorelco and a Remmington and while both work ok, neither replaces a blade.  I like the norelcoat work to get a spot i missed in the morning or sometimes a late afternnon headshave in the patrol car.   A couple of buddies that are fellow skinheads claim by them but for me, they dont give me that glass smooth finish.  However, you cant beat them for being portable and at least getting some kind of shave

Hi Red!

I have shaved many ways and tried many different things.....the blade and oil, gels, creams, headslick etc.

For the past 2 years I have been using a Braun 8985 which is a dry razor and comes with the self cleaning mech. I start out by putting the old Williams Electric Shave on the noggin and shaving exactly the way you described in your previous post. My routine may be a little different than most folks but after I shave the sides and the back on the noggin I jump in the shower and when I am done I leave the top of the dome wet. I then put some Neutrogena Skin Clearing shave cream on the top and shave that off with a Gillette Fusion. After I get done I wash the noggin off and splash cold water over it for about 30 seconds and polish the dome with Nivea After Shave Extra Soothing Balm.

I know this routine may sound strange but it works for me and I like it....lol....I have had very few razor bumps or irritation since I have started this routine......so as they say....If it's not broke don't try to fix it!

 ;D

I just bought a Braun 9585 Pulsonic and the thing rocks. It's much better than the Panasonic that Red now owns.  It costs about twice as much but it works so much better for me. I have bump issues and my old Braun 7000 series helped cure those but what an upgrade this new one is. It seems just a bit less powerfull than the panasonic but it doesn't chew me up like the panasonic. Anyway, I highly recommend this Braun Pulsonic if you're thinking about an electric.
