I just went Sly Sunday, and already I feel that being a Bald Sly Guy takes on a new meaning when you deal with the public on a professoinal basis.
I am the yard foreman at our local lumber yard. I have been taking care of contractors and do it yourselfers for over 14 years. These people are more than customers, I am proud to call them my friends. I live in a somewhat small town of about 11,900. So news travels fast. So me going Sly is no exception to the rule around here.........
Most of the reactions from co workers have been quite positive. Good natured ribbing is the norm for this crowd. Customers are curious as to why the sudden change in appearance. One so-called "man" crossed the line. That is where being Sly came in quite handy.....
This afternoon, I had just finished loading a customer a rather large order on his trailer, and as I was checking his order for him, out of the blue he very abruptly asked me "Why in the %#$& did you shave your head %#$&ing bald?" I'm 5'7" he was at least 6"4". I simpy relplied "Recent studies by the American Medical Association have proven that people who are balding, or have clean shaven heads process information faster due to the increased oxygen flow to the cranial region." The confused look on this gentleman's face was totaly priceless. All he could say was "Huh?, Really?" I just smiled and told him to have a great day!

I dunno why, but I really get annoyed when people ask me why I did it. I mean I know, it's not a huge deal. But if you think it looks bad, just tell me, don't ask me why I did it. I dunno, do you guys ever get annoyed having to explain why you did it?

Pretty much everyone I know said it suits me better, even my cousin, who is a hoity toity hair dresser to Toronto's rich folk, who used to do my hair said it's much better. The only ones who asked why I did it and said I looked better with hair were the ladies who work in admin, payroll and uniform procurement, but they are all over 60 and you can clearly tell that they still have the same view as 30 years ago. Of the approximately 120 officers where I work 3 of us are sly. The other 2 have been for ages, so when I first showed up sly I got hounded for it for a few weeks, but that was it.
I actually had more people commenting on the thinning before than commenting and asking WHY I did it.

That's awesome Bukkweet

Bukkweet, that was BRILLIANCE in action if you ask me. He's probably still thinking about that one. ::)
BTW the SLY look really suits you. What a nice looking couple. :@`

Great comeback, man. Keep thinkin' on your feet!
As to Black James: Man, I don't know what it is, but it has ALWAYS gotten my feathers a little ruffled when people ask me why I make any style choices. Why do you THINK I shaved my head? Because I wanted to? Why do you THINK I have a beard? I don't know why YOU do what you do, but I do what I want. Usually when someone asks me why I DID something I turn it around and ask them why the DIDN'T. It usually makes the point and shows it's kind of a rude question.

Yeah bro, sometimes the way people ask you, it sounds like, why would you ever do that? They should just come out and say they don't think it looks good, and be on their way.
