Title: Preacher shaves it off...
Post by: Timmay on June 09, 2008, 12:41:17 PM
Hey all just wanted to let you in on some good news.  Last week we had our community VBS ( vacation bible school) 4 churches came together and held 1 big massive VBS.  There were over 500 kids attending the 5 day event.  The four head preachers...including our pastor, all made a deal with the kids.  If they raised $1500 by brining in their change evernight to be donated to the local Jacobs Closet ( a nonprofit organization that donates new to nearly new clothing to people in need) that they all would shave their heads.  Well the kids raised $1800.00.  All but one pastor went thru with it.  Our pastor gets up in front of church yesterday after the worship band sang a song with some altered words ( something about buying you Rogaine)  LOL.  He looks good and he came up to me after wards and wanted to know what the procedures were on keeping it looking as good as I do.  I gave him this website but he said he isnt into getting on the net like that...but wanted me to email him with some pointers.  So there ya go boys.....mark three more up on the list for Washington.  O0

All but one pastor went thru with it.

And why was he allowed to wuss out?    :Xo!   Shouldn't a pastor be aware of the importance of keeping one's word?

Great news, Timmy.  Now keep us posted on the progress of your preacher.

Great news Tim!!! I do question the pastor that wouldn't shave..... This means one of two things.... he didn't believe the kids would meet the goal or he blatantly lied. Either way... not a good example.

I agree totally with you all about the "Preacher" who didnt shave.  He belongs to another church here in town....so....I really dont know the reason why he opted out....it doesnt look good for a pastor but....I guess that goes to show....WE ALL ARENT PERFECT!

That particular preacher not only failed to show the young people of his congregation that a man stands by his word, stands up for charitable causes, and as a preacher should be an example to his people.  Can't fail to believe that he is going to have one rough time soliciting contributions for future endeavors.

I agree with you Paul, it sorta gets me.  To me that reflects a not so positive sign towards him.  I do know this pastor is only 23-24 years old but that shouldn't matter.  So what should we do to him, kidnap him in the middle of the night and shave his head?

Works for me!   >:D

He shouldn't have gone along with the arrangement if he didn't want to go through with it.  I realize that there are some people out there who don't want their heads shaved  :/O but the time to speak up was before things got underway.

I can't imagine being the only holdout when everybody else was honoring their word.

Pride (aka vanity) is one of the Seven Deadly Sins.  Someone should have pointed that out to him.   >:D

Shaving entails a great leap of faith.  Pastor's, like the rest of us, are human, and have frailties.  One of his may be vanity.  Not saying what he did is right ... but he is human.

Now ... about the plot to kidnap him in the middle of the night .....

I think we should refer him to our Padre, no?    :x!

I think this is an excellent idea! Our Padre could "counsel" him on the importance of not only a man, but a man of God, standing by his word.

So should I go find this guy and confront him?????

Do it Timmay... seriously... how does that look to not only his congregation but what about the message it sends to the kids about keeping your word.  It's one thing to say you're gonna do something but to promise it to kids who are raising money at VBS and then chicken out, that's just wrong.  DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!

Start another fundraiser (without checking with him first) -- get people to contribute more if he'll go through with it this time.  Let the pressure build.   >:D
