My life as a headshaver has yielded a never-ending stream of goofy names. I guess they think it will make me grow my hair back or something. Who knows? Many people tend to think all guys with shaved heads look alike. My dad was the first one that made the 'stone cold' reference when I started shaving my head.
I’m not Dave Attell though it is really freakin scary how we look alike
I’m not Ed from Live. I can’t even play the guitar
I’m not Patrick Stuart though I did fly the enterprise at the Hilton in Vegas
I’m not Ben Kingsley even though I am a Sexy Beast
I'm not trying to look like Edward Norton from American History X
I was not married to J-Lo (but I would marry her) and my name is not Chris Judd
Definetly not Tim McGraw (I get this when I wear a hat)
And of course f#@$k to everyone who says a joke about MR. Clean. It’s been done to death.
So to all my fellow 'cueballs' and 'eggheads', what names have you been called?
-
With regards to head shaving? Not a one. But I've certainly got a list of other names I've been called!
P.S. Looking mighty spiffy in your avatar.

I just get called Andre (as in Agassi) a lot and Scott Ian quite a bit when I had the longer goat..
I do not want to be compared to Howie Mandel...
maybe that's why I can't grow the soul patch?!
-
P.S. Looking mighty spiffy in your avatar.
Thanx for the compliment, X-Bay Stater. O0
You forgot to mention your cool nickname, "the opinionated walrus".
-
I haven't really been called any names. My wife calles me sexy. :@` That's a mighty good name >:D
-
A lot of people think I look like Chris Judd since I shaved my head. More so when I used to use clippers, but I still get it once and a while. I don't see it.

Without a doubt bro! I see it!
-
My friends call me all the standard bald nicknames. At work and off-duty, Im skinhead or cueball. I answer to all the names.
-
I do see a slight resemblance, Tyler, to CHris Judd.
-
some say I look like Gomer Pyle....lol just kidding...lol
-
You forgot to mention your cool nickname, "the opinionated walrus".
I thought you were only looking for BBC-related slurs.
"Opinionated Walrus" was intended as a slur against my girth and facial fur. I think it still irritates the slurrer to this day that I wasn't offended and use the title proudly!

I get The Big Show from the WWE

My co-workers usually go with "Look Mr Clean is here (which I hate)" or most people ask if I'm related to Chef Duff ("Ace of Cakes" chef on Food Network).

For sure!
-
So far I've been called "seal head" and "(insert a name for the male organ here) head" lol
Dan

Curly and Cap'n Baldy

i have been called an a$$hole before...

Scott you are Sly, but I'm not sure if you're as Sly as my man Chef Duff.

Hey SimplyRed, nobody messes with our Scott. He's the ultimate SLY chef. O0

OK BJ, I'll watch it. BTW, you're looking less like a member of Purple Man Group on my monitor at home. :*))

Red, our man Scott is way slyer than Duff. Hands down.
-
Only one way to resolve this. BAKE OFF ! ! !
-
I'll vote Scotty any day over that other cat...
ok, and if you're saying who is the "slyest"...well Scott has one shadowfree, very slick shiny dome...
so even without knowing what a cool guy Scott is (from him posting here) if I saw the two dudes...
by looks alone...Scotty wins sly bro!!!
That bit of scruffy doesn't cut it on the other chef!
Slick sly always wins over scruffy sly! ;)
-
so far only baldy
-

I can add another name to my list.
Seems SimplyRed has been calling me (in several threads) a member of the Purple Man Group. First of all he's got his colors mixed up. It's the Blue Man Group.
I suggest he gets a repair man to fix his monitor.
I'm not blue and I'm certainly not purple. I'm Caucasion.
SimplyRed you wouldn't want me to call you SimplyMean. :Xo!

Not by some guy's standard around here...some dudes around here have tried to get away with a real short buzz being "sly" or even those every couple day shavers...
thanks for keeping things on the up and up in SLYTOWN, Sheriff X! :popo

A sly guy has to be vigilant. We don't want any more backsliders like Jesse Ventura, Billy Zane, or Kelly Slater. It's criminal to allow a great looking dome to be marred by stubble or hair. >:(

Not in my book. BA may disagree; he's been on the Mr. Clean kick for some time now. ^-^

Fair enough ;D
I tend to always roll with facial stubble.

And THAT is why you are Sheriff!
Just following your lead. With slyness comes the responsibility of being a good sly amabassador. You never know who you're inspiring when you go out in public; so you've got an obligation to always sport a clean, shiny dome. There's nothing worse than a sly guy who's fallen off the wagon. :(

Without a doubt...nothing worse than seeing one of the most sly dudes around go around MPB scruffy on a daily basis these days...
I'd be talking Bruce Willis...
big shame..but from the stories I heard he never really embraced the SLY look believe it or not!

Say wha?? ??? He never embraced it?
I know what you mean, though. I came across this page a little earlier tonight. He's got just a hint of stubble, but it makes a huge difference. It's grey and it really makes him look like an old man:
http://entertainment.msn.com/movies/baldandbeautiful
I started shaving because of MPB, but even if I could grow a full head of hair, I think I'd really be considering shaving it all once I got a lot of grey. Looking old is not my thing.
-
Say wha?? ??? He never embraced it?
Let me rephrase...in some interviews he said in a minute he would grow his hair back if something was found that would regrow it...he hates being bald...
now the forced SLY by MPB helped enhance his cool personna and f-it attitude...
would having hair this whole time given him that same trademark rebel dude attitude?
I guess we'll never know?
-
would having hair this whole time given him that same trademark rebel dude attitude?
I guess we'll never know?
Probably not. And an even bigger consequence would be that the sly movement might have never caught on to the extent that it has. I think Bruce is probably the person most responsible for getting white guys to shave their heads.
Moby also made some comment one time that he'd give up all the money he'd earned in his career if it would get him his hair back. :/O
I mean, bald + rich = win-win situation, right? Who wants to be hairy and poor? :/O

Yesterday I went to the supermarket with my son. As I was opening the freezer door to get some frozen peas, one of the grocery clerks passed me by and said ET, phone home. I looked at my son and said what was that about? He gave me a puzzled look.
A few minutes later I was getting some boxes of cereal and the same clerk passed by and said ET, phone home. I looked at my son. He looked back at me and said, dad I think he was talking to you. I asked my son, why do you think that?
Do you think I look like ET? :Xo!
If my son wasn't with me I would have decked that jerk of a clerk. :x!

Another dad that takes his kids grocery shopping. Awesome.
I wouldn't waste my time or energy by decking that ignorant grocery clerk. I would release my kids on him. The crude dude wouldn't know what hit him.

Rodger, your kids are really cute.
BaldBen, I wouldn't have wasted time with the clerk -- rather, his manager and I would be having a cozy conversation.

I wouldn't waste time talking to the manager about it, either. It's just not worth the effort.

I second that. God, they are ADORABLE.
Being new to the sly world so far I have heard that I look like an alien (not ET though, the scary kind). A guy at work says to grow it back because I look too much like a biker dude.
Some have said Mr. Clean, George the Animal Steele (oldtime wrestler), a girl at work said she gets a Yul Brenner vibe (that I take as a compliment).

Most of the names I've been called have been positive, but one sticks out...no surprise that the negative comment came from The Lovely Mrs. Schro. I was wearing a turtleneck during the winter and she said I look like a thumb.
Now, even though it ticked me off, I laughed my ass off. ;D

She may have been right about that. That's one of the reasons I no longer wear turtlenecks.

Tell them that you're sorry that they confuse a male organ with something that doesn't grow hair on it, and that they should talk to someone about their pedophilia obsession.

I'm afraid I would have approached that clerk and told him that if he made one more comment, "ET" was going to deliver a special message to the end of his nose..... courtesy of the fist phone.......... :*))

You're not the only one to get called E.T. though. I never got it from strangers, but I would get all my friends calling me that after they had seen this one pictures of me. I don't see any resemblance but everyone else sure seems to. :o

Baldy, chrome-dome, skinhead, Nazi & a positive one, COOL !! Any of this sound familiar ?!! ;D
-
One night when I was refereeing a high school basketball game a guy called me Cue Ball. I thought that was pretty good. I gave him the thumbs up sign. O0 He laughed, wasn't mad anymore over my call, and the game went smoothly thereafter.
-
It's been 3 weeks, so far, not a one.
-
I don't very much get concerd by this name, but when I first herd it it took me off gaurd by how immature it sounds... Penis head? Ya kinda seems like an elementary name. Wierd thing is I herd a guy that was balding and he was asking another bald guy what he should do and the guy told him he could shave it. The guy goes "no my heads to long and skinny ill look like a penis head." Don't know if anyoens ever head this?
As for me I usually get called skinhead or cue ball, used to get cancer patient before I grew the beard out. Also some random names of people/cartoons that are bald. Don't take much offense and all just laugh about it.
-
Nothing yet, so far.
Penis head? That is really hurtful, I would've said something meaner to him or something, if his hair was plat. blonde, I would've called him cum head.
-
Ya I just kinda laughed at it because it was so childish. It was more of a "did he really just say that."
-
People sometimes don't think. At least you knew not to be his friend or help him out whenever he's in trouble or he starts losing his hair. When I was younger I used to be scared of making fun of balding guys cause I was scared I'd have the same fate.
-
One of the other prior military guys at work: "SKULLY! Nice rock!"

I don't really look like anybody, just myself.
a young Bruce Willis in Die hard maybe.
besides the generics i dont think anyone has even tried to insult my Slyness i think they are afraid too. just thing i am 6 foot 7 with size 14 steel toes on usually not to mention i am rather on the heavy side not for long starting a diet and exercise plain as soon as i can get the motivation to start moving been lethargic for to long and afraid to start only to stop because of pain.
-
lordmage. In the physical therapy world there's something called stepping up when it comes to exercising. If you can only do 5 pushups, do 5 pushups. In two days move to 6. In two more days move to 7.
Also, I've found now that I'm not in the AF anymore, that Tai Chi helps to keep things from locking up and getting too ridiculous. I don't do Yoga. Yoga seems to be done mostly by stick people who eat rabbit food. I'll never be there.

I'd much rather look like a penishead than be a penishead, if ya get my drift.
Besides, that guy must have a really weird looking.. well, I'm not going there.. but what he said doesn't even make sense. In so many ways.
And nothing looks worse than the hairy toilet seat head.
-
One of the folks I had duty with the first time I went sly made some crack about looking like a "d**khead." I just grinned and asked, "I put steel to my skull every morning simply because I think it LOOKS better. Do you really want to f**k with me?" Ya know, I never heard a word about my noggin from them again.
-
@Timmer : That is exactly my plain as soon as i clear up another issue. which is in the second official day of treating and the sixth day of unofficial controlling. You can bet your last dollar as soon as it clears. i am gonna do some kind of exercise each day as much as i can.

Almost 5 months of a fully shaved head and all I've noticed is I get called Sir a lot more now. Could be due to the shaved head, or an age respect thing. Going bald at a young age, I had my share of Chrome Dome, Baldy, Shiny Head, and other comments that stung then. Funny how now that is the look I want.

Now why would they call you pumpkin head......can't understand it ? ;D ;D

Does "Oh MY GOD! What did you do to yourself?" count as a name? I think its a bit long.

LOL--that counts, I got several of those--and some added, "Looks good!"
-
I'm not holding my breath for someone to say "It looks good". The closest thing I've gotten today was "I'm sorta getting used to it". I figure after enough time passes people will get used to it. People get used to pretty much anything given enough time. It sounds like many people before me have had to brave a salvo of shocked looks and colleagues saying things like "Oh My God. Why did you do that?" I just have to roll with the punches.

I got Lex Luthor the other day from my wisecracking boss who is not too far from sporting a horseshoe himself. I repsonded that if I really were an evil billionaire we wouldn't be having this conversation. >:D

Did you point out he's Harry, of harry toilet seat! >:D

No, he's not quite that far gone yet, but he is noticeably thinning and he knows it. I hope he's at good at taking wisecracks as he is at dishing them out because it won't be too long before they start.
There's a few other guys at work who are probably in their early 30s and starting to seriously thin. It will be interesting to see if any of them eventually end up going sly. I am doing my best to set a good example. ;)

What's their choice in the final analysis? Within the last two months one guy at my gym moved from buzzed to sly, he shaves one to two times a week. He said that his brother who's something like 8 years older and balding still hasn't come to terms with it. This guy looks good with it, but he's still not totally with it I think, but what's the alternative? He said seeing his picture from the rear with the "dip" in the back was a factor in accepting it. We've all been there and it's really a personal issue--all we can do is assure them we've been there and sly looks better than balding.

Most of these guys were hired recently so I don't really know them well enough to discuss it with them. But at least with me there, they know they don't have to worry about whether or not a shaved head will be accepted at work.

I seldom go a day without being told that I look like the guy from American History X. I will say that I got something of a new perspective on things this week when a colleague who looks quite a bit like me came into work with his hair buzzed down to I guess a #1 guard. I was a bit shocked when I first saw him. Even with his very thick hair he did look a lot more "severe" with his haircut. He actually told me that he had been wanting to go very short but only got up the courage after I shaved my head. I can see how people reacted as strongly as they did when I shaved my head. With his very sharp and angular features he looks IMO very good, but not exactly avuncular. It took me all of a minute to get used to his new do, but I can see how others would have a more difficult time getting used to it. He is tallish and thin like me. I wonder if I put on some weight and maybe shaved my goatee I might soften my look. I might be totally off base here. Its just when I see pictures of guys with shaved heads and either a little more roundess to the face or a very softening white beard it gives off a very different vibe. I think I might look a bit like a skinhead especially when the 5 o'clock shadow starts to come in. I do not want to give off a menacing look. Maybe the answer is just a more frequent smile and a consistently more upbeat attitude. I suppose it is all a matter of time. With all of this said nobody gives me a hard time about my head anymore. Sorry for the rant.
-
I think it can be a somewhat menacing look and I think that may be why I felt kind of uncomfortable at first, because I'm really not that kind of person. But I've come to actually enjoy the fact that my appearance doesn't quite match my personality. Being aware that I look menacing to some people has actually increased my confidence. For example, I was involved a very minor fender-bender last week (no damage done at all). The other driver was acting like a jerk but I think he was a bit afraid to push his luck too far.
How you dress can make a huge difference. When I'm wearing khakis and a dress or polo shirt for work, I feel like a completely different person than when I'm wearing a T-shirt and jeans. When I wear my glasses, I think it tends to soften my look -- and that may be part of the reason why I don't like wearing them in public.
You're right that a smile can also make a huge difference.
-
People are honestly sh*t scared of me - outside of those people who know me. At the gym everyone just gets out of my way. I wonder whether a pair of "acamemic" looking pair of glasses might help. Obviously the collar and tie is better than my usual jeans, white t-short and boots. I try to wear my sharpest work clothes and I do believe that it helps, but there is nothing I can do about my angular mug. Glasses with no prescription. ha! I will work on the smile in the meantime. I'll try 30 days of concentrating on smiling. I'm not a grouch. Its just that I don't smile much - unless I'm watching my cartoons of course.

Honestly, I really wouldn't worry about it. It's better than being the guy who gets sand kicked in his face. I look a lot different than I used to; people who only knew me in my pre-sly days rarely recognize me. It was a little disconcerting at first but it's something I've gotten used to.
-
You're right. I could be in the exact opposite predicament which would be worse.

Get called anything and everything having to do with being bald - -and 90% of the time it is from another SLICK MELON - - -We use SLICK SHINY MELON alot
-
Just the other day I held the door for an elderly couple at a fast food joint, and the man turns to me and says "Thank you, Curly".
Nice one, old timer.
Other than that, I don't get many names from people. I call other bald guys I know "baldy", and I get the same in return. Since my wife is Mexican, I also get "pelón" a lot when we visit her family. ;D

I've been compared to Ed Norton and the guy who played Red Foreman on That 70s Show -_- Not sure where that one came from. The most annoying reaction, though, is when people ask if I'm an aryan. I mean come on, people... just because I'm under 20 and shave my head does not mean I'm a racist -_-
-
welcome Luke! Use the Force wisely........

Nearly 4 years SLY and it finally happened...
A guy in a bar thought I was a skin head...and got even more ingorant after that. He went from that extreme to insulting black people. I let him know he better just be quiet because not only am I not a skin head...my fiancee is black and before it escalated the bartender had him removed...

Oh I've been called "Vinyard" * Ed Norton played the role * from American History X a number of times.....I think the stimga that a caucasian male who shave's his head is branded a racist is diminishing with the coming of times.
But I've been known to be wrong.

I can't believe this is still happening at all. In nine years, not once have I ever gotten a comment like that, and the look has become so common since then, at least in these parts, I don't think most people even think to associate it with racism.
-
I get baldy most of the time and because my last name is Baldwin, I got baldy even before I went sly. My younger brother gets baldy alot, he does not shave his head, but he should he has thinner hair than I do. Dont really care what people think of me, or what they call me I am very happy with how I look and I will not change that for anyone. I do have a colleague at work who calls me guapo, i like that. ^-^

The Bar I bounced at was 20 minutes away from San Francisco so we had all walks of life come in, I left because we where getting a pandemic of Bikers and even H.A.'s ( Hells Angels ) Tongans who where absolutely out of control while intoxicated, the wannabe gang bangerswho always cracked me up and we even a couple of alleged A.B. ( Aryan's ) who just factored in that even though I had a shaved head that I was someone who had there repulsive beliefs and doctrine but needless to say one of the many things I got called while working at that establishment was "Vinyard"
-
I honestly can't remember the last time anyone commented in any derogatory fashion about my dome, I only get compliments and, of course, studied silence from She Who Must Be Obeyed. I get a whole lot more about the full beard, maybe it's the time of year and the fact it's white/gray. Even those are pretty much neutral or jest, the typical Santa Claus sort of thing. And, a couple of my wife's friends at holiday gatherings have fondled the beard and complimented the look--and that's fun too if she's standing nearby. >:D
-
I think for me, it's because I sometimes have mean or intimidating facial expressions without meaning to. I've had people asking me if I was angry about something when I was perfectly fine my whole life. I guess some people assume I'm mean-spirited.
-
With the 'stache I am sporting, I got Monopoly Man from a friend. We thought it was really funny.
-
Went to The Smashing Pumpkins concert a month ago and when the show ended a drunk guy called me out to say he was glad I played Zero. lol
-
The name "baldie" was yelled to me across the street by a group of teenagers yesterday. They thought they were insulting me; I took it as a compliment on my best feature..... :P
-
Since I bought my first motorcycle 8) a few years ago some of my buddies started calling me "Chrome Dome". Nothing real original.
My wife pointed out that I would look like Shrek if I painted my head green, multiple people have called me "Mr. Clean", and I've been told I look like Brian Urlacher.
-
I live in Thailand.
Some inquire if I am a Buddhist monk in plain clothes.
Strange having to tell them about Yul Brynner in the King and I.
They do not know about Kojak either.
-
I was called Krillin (DBZ), Airbender and a Shaolin :/O
-
The good, Vick Mackie (Michael Chiklis' character in "The Shield")
The bad, Hitler Youth (ugh!)
The ugly, Uncle Fester (I actually do look a bit like Uncle Fester)
Those are the things I've been called since starting my BBC journey last April.
My wife, one of my friends, and my boss have all called me uncle fester. It doesn't bother me, since I look like uncle fester. That and my boss is sly, also.
-
mr clean
-
cannot say I've received a lot of abuse but the worst I've had is "Your ears look alot bigger" from one guy.
-
I got called a Chia Pet recently...but in a good way. The comment came from a vendor at work who first met me when I had no hair. Not too long after meeting him, I fell off the wagon and started to let my hair grown back out. When I saw him most recently I had reshaved my head. He commented that he liked it better that way because that is how I looked when we were first introduced. He said, I looked like a Chia Pet when I started to let it grow back out and that I should keep it this way.

;D ;D ;D Well, usually the customer is always right, but in this case--vendor rules.
-

It never looks right when you see somebody with hair after only having seen them bald. I've been doing this long enough now that most of the people in my day-to-day life have never seen my hair and I think they'd probably laugh if I showed them my "hairy" photos.
-
I recently moved to Saudi Arabia, I'll be out here awhile. I have to wear a suit in a place that reaches temperatures of 130 Fahrenheit in the summer. I might need some fresh balls.
-
Honestly guys, I think being called names or being made fun of for trying to cover up the bald head (ie, rug, transplants) is MUCH worse :*))
-
i've been called a few names
Bald Black Kid
Black "MR.CLEAN"
MR.CLEAN
8BALL...
i find it amusing :/O

Well have a good time, is it for school or work ???

Let's see-- I have been called Buzz Lightyear, the Mudville 9 (in reference to "KC") and Aquaman (in reference to my love of diving). I have also been called Space Monkey; a reference from the Fight Club (and my darkest nickname). I've even been called Malibu Ken. My being sly has never really defined who I am but rather enhanced the image. My roomate freshman year in college referred to me as "RJ" which stood for Rowing Jock because I would wake up at O Dark Thirty for Crew Practice.
-
Fortunately, I have never been called names since I went sly. Now that I have been sly for awhile, I don't think that it would bother me that much.
