Title: Hi From the UK
Post by: Argyle on January 01, 2007, 02:38:41 PM
Hi Guys,

I stumbled across this Site a few days ago while surfing the web in a moment of baldness related insecurity to convince myself that I was happy with the whole hairless situation.  Anyway, I liked it so i thought i would stop on by properly this evening and say hi.  I hope to become a regular poster on here.

Well anyway, by way of intro, I am 28, from West Yorkshire in the UK and have been losing my hair for probably the last five years of so.  It is only really in the last two years that it has started to bother me.

I have been getting progressively shorter and shorter until last November while on holiday in Budapest I decided to go the whole hog and get out the Mach 3.  Now if any of you have been to Budapest in November then you will realise that this was a baptism of fire!!

Nonetheless, I fought through people at work talking about it etc etc and I am still doing it to this day.

I wouldnt say I have arrived at peace with my bald head yet, I still think I am losing it worse than most and spend far too much time trying to convince myself otherwisem but Sites like this help and every day I become more and more comfortable with the total lack of hair on the top and some of the sides of my head.

Anyway will leave it at that for now as I suspect that is a long first post, but hope to say hi to some of you guys soon.

Take care,

Chris

Welcome! I'm a newb here myself and only recently did I decided to shave my head as well. I know what you mean about the baldness related insecurity, lol. I'm still getting it from time to time myself.

:) :) :)Welcome, Argyle. I too know what you mean about baldness insecurity, having shaved it all off only on November 4th. It gets less every day, especially with the support and insights of the mates in the SBGs community. My own experience is overwhelmingly positive: my wife loved it from the first, most women respond positively, and I have noticed the bald look becoming more prominent, even mainstream, in academe and the professions. The guys can help with their own reflections and advice on shaving and products. The alternatives--slow natural balding, wigs, the infamous crossover, and transplants--are all less attractive. Follow some of the threads on the site; we've all been there. All best in the new year. Professor Melon

You've taken the first step... and as with most of us here, you'll come to terms with the slick noggin fairly quickly!

Welcome to the site Chris, from a fellow baldy the other side of the Irish Sea.

Really no need to be worrying about the hair (or lack of) ... going by your pic the look suits you.  What does the missus think?

Top of the evenin to ya then!!

The missus says she is pretty happy with it, and in fact cant imagine me with hair.  I am conviced she is just saying that ;) or is it perhaps because i like her trying to persuade me otherwise!!

Anyway she is 17 weeks pregnant with my first child so i guess that is a good sign eh??

My missus likes me shaved, makes me look younger.  It's always a cool "hairstyle" in my opinion.

Congrats, you dirty dog.

p.s. my missus is also 'up the spout'.  convincing evidence if any is needed of the bald man's studliness.

My friend, it is time you started meeting dates at the door and care the ____ outta them with your large, intimidating bald presence.

Dang these kids are starting younger and younger.  I would easily say 80% of HS juniors and seniors are sexually active in some form or fashion.  I had at least one girl in each of my classes this semester who already had a baby.  In a couple of cases the dad's were still in HS too.

Schedule a shotgun cleaning the same time your wife invites him over for dinner.  Then invite him outside for a little chat.

I actually knew a girl whose dad made it a point to show her dates his large and extensive gun collection, his sharpshooter medals, and all the stuffed animal heads mounted in his den ... He had absolutely no concerns about his daughter.

Sorry, I assumed your 13 yr old was a daughter...LOL

In that case, give your son a high 5 and talk to him about the birds and the bees.

Bro, better to be scared now - and to scare the daylights out of him, than in a couple of years to be known as Grandpa.  Since there is so little sex ed in schools, he needs to learn all the facts.  We lost a real bright kid last year because he had to drop out so he could support his child.  I also have four or five dads who take a less honorable path and just not pay support.  Most kids have no thought for birth control - it makes them "less a man".  Don't allow your son to fall into this trap.

You want to try living where i live in Yorkshire.  I have worked for my company for six years and we have had the same security guy all that time.  His accent and dialect is so strong that even now i reckon i only get about 1 out of 2 words!!  It is like a French listening exam at school.  You have to be dead careul or you miss the punchline - the saving grace is that no one laughs at his jokes more than him :)

:D Dear Chris: you look really good, and, if the wife's on board, stay with it. I shaved it off two month ago, and have had overwhelmingly positive responses. The alteratives (hair plugs, weaves, rugs, and the comb-over) are all unacceptable. So get used to being totally and happily bald. There is an honesty in this thing, not to mention a cleanliness. yeah magma i have kinda come to realise this.  I havent posted in a few days recently because i have been having what you may loosely regard as a bad hair day lol.  This group is so positive and at ease with their baldness that i didnt want to bring my negative feelings on here!!

It is funny really, my insecurities about baldness are weird.  I dont mind the way it looks from the front in fact i am much better without hair than the curly mess i used to have.  I dont mind it from the back, i am just insanely paranoid sometimes about the way it looks from the side.  This is for two reasons.  One is how far down the side it is balding (I would say about 25%) but the main thing is how it receeds, it kinda goes from my sideburns to above my ear in a diagnol line.  Most of the time if am fine with this, but occasionally just occasionally i get the feeling of mine is going worse then other people's.  I guess i know it isnt true, but sometimes you just feel like a real ugly so and so.  In addition to this, none really gets it unless they have either gone through it or are going through it.

That said i am back and thought i would log on from a boring conference in Berlin to increase my post count!!

I think we're not the best at sharing feelings in our corner of the world.  Don't know if it's the same in the Uk but if you were to share such feelings in Ireland your friends would just take the piss :)

The lads here are sound though so you'd be better off getting it off your chest.  You're not the first and won't be the last to have -ve feelings about balding.

Good to see you back  :)
I think we all have insecurities about the way we look, with or without hair, I know that I do...whether or not it's harder/easier or different because I'm a woman, I can't say, but you're not alone in the way that you feel. I have days when I feel real ugly and don't wanna look anyone in the eye, then there's other day's when I feel fantastic, and like someone said in a thread before, it has a lot to do with confidence. From what I can see of your photo, I think you look great   ;)
Obviously, I can't say about having a bald head, well, stating the obvious, I don't happen to have one, but the attitudes and confidence of the guys on here will rub off on you in no time, I'm sure. Be confident with the way you look Argyle, cos you look fine to me  :)
