About 11 or 12 years ago I had to work on a Saturday. If we worked on weekends, we could park for free in the parking garage below our buiding. You just had to go inside to get the card that opened the garage door from the security guard.
You couldn't open the garage door witnout getting out of your car, because the place where you put the card was on the wall next to the door. So I got out of my car, left the motor running, and without thinking, hit the lock out of force of habit. I remembered just as I swung the door shut. And then it was too late.
To make a long story short, it took about an hour and a half and a $20 tip to a maintenance man from the building to get the damn thing unlocked. And I felt like a complete idiot every time one of my coworkers showed up. Since then I've always carried an extra car key in my wallet.

You too, huh ?

I have locked my keys in my car countless times over the years and have always been to get them somehow, normally with a coat hanger or piece of wire.

Not only have I locked myself out of my car...but it was running with my 8 month old niece sitting in her carseat just having a good ol time. I had to pay 75 bucks to get back in because she didnt understand how to unlock the door. LOL

That's why I keep my AAA membership going. Used it lots of times. The last time was when we were tailgating before a Chiefs game. I was putting everything away and shut the doors to my SUV with the keys in the ignition. So I waited in the parking lot for the tow truck driver to get my keys out, while the others were watching the game. :Xo!

;D funny that we can laugh about those type of experiences now. rick... your post just reminded me that i need 2 go visit the local AAA and sign up 4 a membership. O0

Happened to me a few times. I guess the worse was at work one time about 5 years ago. I was "lucky" enough, if you call it that, to be trusted with a building key to open and close up. Me and another co-workers were staying for a little OT finishing up a job. When we were done he took as I was closing the building up. I jumped in my car tossed my cell phone in the passenger seat and put the keys in the ignition. Keep in mind I've just come off a 12 hour day in some exhausting heat. Then I realized I had forgotten to clock out. So I get out of the car, not thinking, and by habit lock the car and shut the door. I get up to the building and realize I don't have the key to get in. It's on my key ring in the ignition of the, now, locked car. Plus I can't call anyone because my cell phone is in there too. At least I hadn't started the car. But I can't say it was a totally lost because the was a fire station about three lots over and they were nice enough to let me use their phone to call my wife with the extra key. Hasn't happened since then.

Actually believe it or not...............No. But I have locked myself in the trunk before. LOL.. a friend of mine had this oh hell i think it was a 1982 Bonneville and we were working on his stero. I was in the trunk( remember these cars had HUGE TRUNKS ...you could have a damn orgy back there ) putting in speakers in the back. Well something was wrong with his lid and we had it proped open with a broom handle. Well I was back there bouncing around trying to wiggle my way in the back of the trunk and i accidently knocked the broom handle. My friend had went inside and when he came back he thought maybe I had left but he heard this thumping noise. The a$$hole that he was LOL...knew I was in there and he was talking to him self saying Oh I dont know where he is ..well guess he went home...guess I will go for spin...starts his car up an drive a lap thru town and wouldnt let me out...pissed me off at first....but laughed about it later. LOL See what kind of friends I had and then I have to come in here and put up with all you guys! LOL

One time was all it took. Now I have a key hidden in a nondisclosed location on my truck. Have never used it. I think knowing that it's there keeps the karma good.
-
yes, I used to do it all the time untill I got a newer car that signals when your keys are in the ignition.
AAA Roadside Service has had plenty of times getting me back into my car.
-
I used to do it all the time. I drove a 1980 Chevrolet Monte Carlo - the one with the long doors. I got real good with a coat hanger undoing the locks in college.
Speaking of college, when I was there I took calculus, botany, some hubcaps, a few stereo systems, and accounting. I knew the hanger would come in handy.

True story: I know someone who locked herself out of her car and called her husband on her cell. He got his remote control and told her to hold her cell up to the car door while he beeped it. The door unlocked.

Yep I have done this before, lucky for me it was my first ever car and it was pretty banged up you could slide the driver side window down with your hand so I it was super easy to unlock!
However this morning I spent an hour and a half looking for my car keys - turned the whole house upside down, I was starting to think Levi had grabbed them and hidden them only to find them in the ignition arghhhhhhhhhh, I wanted to give myself an upper cut!!! :x! :x! :x!

I've done it way back in the 80's. My last 2 recent cars have "dummy doors" that won't lock unless you have a key on the outside. The door handle doesn't go into the locked position with the door open.
-
I've never locked myself out of my vehicle, but I've locked myself out of my house. Just happened last week. I was outside talking to my new cute lady neighbor.
After our conversation I accidentally closed the garage door. :o
No one else was home. The front security door just happened to be opened, but the screen door was locked. I had to push the screen in to unlatch the lock.
The next day my wife noticed that the screen was popping out of the door frame. She said "Rodger...... >:(........what have you done." :x!
I couldn't tell her that the cute neghbor lady caused my lock out and break in, so I made up another story about some bugs. :Xo!

I've locked myself out of my big rig a few times. I've become an expert at slipping the lock with a coat hanger.
Funny one was this rookie driver I ran across in a rest area a few years ago. He had locked his keys in his rig. He was quite upset and it took him 3 hours to get his wife out of the truck.
-
TheTrucker I must say, You are the first big rig, long haul truck driver with a fervent passion for knitting that I have ever come across.
Whatever makes you happy.

I fall guilty to this about 20 minutes ago. We were at the park were our church was having a picnic to celebrate 140 years of the church. You guessed it...I left my keys sitting in the seat. Luckily I had my window cracked and a pick up that was parked next to me had this long rod sitting in the bed...so I stole it for a few seconds...stuck it thru the crack and pushed the unlock button on the remote on my keys....DING...opened right up! LOL

I have locked my self out a few times. There are things you learn in a missled youth that come in handy sometimes
