Title: fast food joints.
Post by: PBurke on December 28, 2006, 11:10:13 AM
don't know where this is gonna go but............ this guy i work with gets so anal when his order gets screwed up at sonic, McD's, BK etc. it blows me away. what does he expect. locally it is highschool kids trying to make a few bucks. they know they don't want to do that forever so why should they care. then when you bring stuff back, what do you think, that it does not tick them off. i could be at the best steakhouse you can name and if my food was not right i would just eat it. people make mistakes. but this dude thinks that the world is ending if they put pickles on a 99cent burger. just take them off. he wastes more gas going back than the food costs. well almost.

I'm right with you on this.  I was aggitated the other day at Ruby Tuesdays when my wife ordered this honkin bison burger with swiss cheese and portabellow mushrooms and special sauce....by the time she finished ordering the thing, the fact that it was on the menu as a Bison Bacon Cheeseburger got lost.  Well my wife sent it back because she discovered amongst all the other gourmet stuff piled on the thing....it was missing the two strips of bacon.

What's funny is she's not usually like that....otherwise I would never go out to eat with her.

My brother- and sister-in-law are LIKE THAT...and it's a pain in the ass to eat out with them.  Not only are they unreasonable in there expectations...but they treat wait staff like they're sub-human.

I heard a great maxim from I think Dr. Phil.....that you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat wait staff at restaurants.  They could come off as the nicest people in the world.....but if they consistantly treat restaurant folks in a condescending-type manner.....they are NOT nice people deep down.

***whew*** thanks, paul, for giving me the opportunity to get that off my chest.

Wow Robmeister, get it on...I'm with you on the waitstaff thing. I've worked in the restaurant biz and so has my wife. If they legitamately suck, then they don't get much of a tip. If they're working their ass off for us, that's a different story. But I always treat them well, regardless. They just wanna make some cash to pay the bills, that's all

AMEN, brutha!!

I will clarify that my wife was as sweet as can be with the waitress at Ruby Tuesdays....and I gave her a 20% tip [the waitress that is].   Both my wife and I have worked in the restaurant biz as well.

True friggen story.   One time my brother-in-law made it clear to the "help" that he wanted the butter for the dinner rolls cool, but not frozen.....and not room temperature soft....in between room temp and frozen.     >:(   What an idiot.

I only eat at one fast food place, it's called In-N-Out Burger. They never screw up my stuff and they are always friendly.

I eat out a TON becuase I travel a lot for work.  My tip always starts at 20% and then works down or up depending on the service.  It's hard to get more than 20%, but there are things that can dramatically reduce it to a lower percentage.  Like not refilling my drink the whole time I'm there or never asking how the meal is.  Though, I never doc a waiter for my food being off.  They are only the messenger.

Real mexican/tex mex food is not fast food and yes I eat it, at least once a week usually.     Chipotle is fast food heaven.    And McDonalds bought them after the guy established the company in colorado and they have nothing to do with the taste of the food.

I hate McDonalds food, for reference sake.   If I noticed the quality going to crap, I wouldn't eat there.   But it hasn't.

And yes, I like mexican food.    My family doesn't really like to venture to hole in the walls though, so we go to a place called los cucos, and if you want the best fajitas in town, Pappasitos is the place(despite being a chain/owned by a non mexican family)

For the best queso, called jose's dip(queso with seasoned ground beef in it, I'd go to molina's.

I enjoy enchiladas verdes, good charro beans, fajitas, mexican grilled fish, flautas among other things.   Plus our red/green salsas.

Now if you want to really discuss texas food, chili is the state dish.   And chili is not texas chili if it has beans in it.

And don't even bring up that crap they pass off as "chili" in ohio.

But alas young David, you being from Texas think that if it's not the Texas way, it's crap... however, there are many other states in the Union that have outstanding food.  Chicago Style Pizza is #1 (in Chicago, not the crap that Uno tries to pass off)... Maryland Crabcakes are freakin' awesome... In-N-Out Burger is heaven sent... Pappasito's is great (I like the seafood enchiladas)... St. Louis BBQ Ribs are just amazing.

Not true though, fine sir.   As far as chili goes, yes, but it's our state dish.   Same for BBQ compared to many other states and mexican/tex mex food compared to most states.   I love deep dish pizza and I know the best is in chicago.  Same with maryland crabcakes and I haven't had the pleasure of in-out burger or midwestern BBQ.   Our in-out is whataburger basically.

Edit: same goes for cajun food, or if you want new york style pizza, or northeastern italian, etc.

I have been to chicago once when I was a kid, and I ate a deep dish pizza and it was heaven for pizza.    That also happened to be the week in the mid 90's when the massive heat wave struck the midwest.   And yes, I went to wrigley for a game while I was there.   I'm an astros fan, but i'm also a fan of seeing different parks.

True, though the wait to get the food in the drive thru can be annoying.   However, I like how mustard is their condiment of choice, so I don't have to say mustard no mayo like I do everywhere else.

This thread has gotten away from the "bad treatment of wait staff," but I want to share something else my brother- and sister-in-law did on a different occasion.  I was telling my wife what I shared here and she reminded me of a time when they ordered apple pie with ice cream on top.  Not too complicated, right?

Well they stearnly made it known that they wanted the pie piping hot....but the ice cream so freshly placed on top that it hadn't started melting when it was served.

Can you imagine actually stipulating something like that  ???  >:(

from being on all ends of the foodservice thing. if waitstaff is trying. treat them well. if kitchen screws up. deal with it. if you can't understand that there are many other people that are being served as well. then go home and cook. waiting tables, and working the kitchen in a resturant are hard jobs. give them some slack. don't you have bad days at work. they would not come to your job and give you a hard time. lighten up.

I have/had enough friends that worked all ends of the food industry to know never send food back.  Take care of the wait staff. And remember tip stands for to insure prompt service (not crazy service request) watch Reservoir Dogs to clarify any confusion.

This thread reminds me of something that happened to me while I was working at a deli/catering outfit one summer during my college years. The place was located close to a new business park, so there was a lot of traffic around noon. One lunch day, this pr*ck was ordering a sandwich. Either it was extremely loud or he was speaking softly on purpose, but I couldn't hear his order. When I asked him to repeat it, he assumed I was mentally challenged, started speaking extremely slow and GRABBED my note pad to write down his order. I stopped him mid-way, and told him (quite loudly) that if he insists on being a jerk, I was not interested in taking his order. The people behind him were clapping! The deli's owner didn't see the first exchange, but when one of our regular customers told him what happened, he laughed and made me a plate of his best homemade ravioli to take home to my folks. I still recall that day periodically when I'm dealing with a jerk in work. I don't care what line of work you're in, you (at a minimum) treat people with the respect they give you.

Tyler, as a Bay Area dude, I can't believe you didn't mention Nation's Burgers. Blows In & Out away. Plus, they make the best chocolate shakes & banana cream pie for the post 1,500 calorie meal.

Well i understand the the theory behind what you say but i do have to make one rule that is overlooked...i am allergic to oinions...yes poor me i am a coonass and most meals contain them...lol but as far as sending a order back if it is of proper nature that you request do to these reasons i see no problems returning a order...but be nice the waiter just brought you the food they do not fix it...now fast food i won't leave till i check the order...and as far as my best place to eat ...in La. Boiling Point or O Charleys..they have the best two for one all day every day!!!!..in Tx..there is a hole in the wall BBQ place off Hwy 10 out side of Beaumont on the east bound side can't think of the name but you get what you pay for.....in GA...Carey Hilliards best damn sweet tea i ever had...
