I have been considering shaving for a couple of months and will have it done this afternoon. I found this site to be very informative as I have been lurking for a few days looking for tips and tricks. I have not seen anything for a topic on how to react to coments and stares that are sure to happen when I return to the office on Monday. I will check back with the forum then, as I do not have e-mail access from home. Just in reading the posts, I can tell this is a swell group. Thanks for welcoming me. I found a link to this site on another site while doing a search for balding.

Welcome, Q. Glad to hear that you found us and are ready to do the deed. All of us here will bet that you will be extremely happy with your decision. There are several threads with good come-back lines, etc. But my experience was that the whole "unveiling" was mostly a non-event that I stressed about way too much.
Best of luck
-
Q, welcome to the fold! You might get a few comments and stares, but many guys find that shaving their head is a non-event for the people around them, thus they don't get any comments. Though, my guess is that if people start staring, it will because you hold your head up high with confidence and they want to know how to get some.
P.S. How's Bond doing?
-
Good luck Q...you'll love being bald once you do it..
people's reactions...never know, expect shock...
but isn't THAT part of the fun! ;)
BTW, what's important is if YOU like it...if you do they will grow to like it!

Q:
Great choice. Don't worry about the comments--unless you need comebacks to compliments. I'd give a "morning line" of compliments to wise cracks at least 10 to 1 at the office. Only "comeback" will be the joshing from friends and potential hositity from family--best comeback was by one of the brothers here to the comment, "Cancer?", reply, "No [insert your zodiac sign] actually!" ;D ;D ;D ;D Used that one several times. And when one guy got pushy, I asked him directly and loudly, "If you get a lot of honeys w/ that combover Jack keep it!"
-
Welcome Q. What everyone's said so far is right on. O0 Glad you found us! Let us know how it went on Monday.
-
Welcome to the neighborhood brother.
Don't sweat the comments and stares like the rest have said it won't be as bad as you think.
If it does come up just hold that sly dome up high brimming with your new found confidence.
-
I don't think any of us shaved our skulls to please any body but the one shaving their skull.
-
Welcome Q!!! Post some pictures.
-
If they ask WHY? Say because YOU CAN!
-
Welcome Q great to have you on board. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the reactions you will get (or not get) We tend to build the event bigger in OUR minds than it is to others. Just kick back and enjoy it.

Congrats on trading up to being a completely bald man Q. I started razor shaving my head in 1983 and I've heard 'em all. My screen name really is my nickname. Its one of those things where you need to distinguish between some good natured kidding and telling an idiot to get lost. You will probably get some kidding. My friends and and coworkers have called me skinhead, cueball, curly or baldie for years(decades) I'll answer to any bald name if its thrown at me in the right way. My friends have called me skinhead for years.
Im a cop and we have probably a total of 6 officers that shave daily and we all joke with each about "hair care" tips for our "do's", compliment each other on good shine, compare razors, etc. Everyone gets a good laugh from it. We shaved bald cops all call each other names. One of the deputy chiefs calls all of us the "baldies".
I use to get teased a lot in the 60s/70s when I had a crewcut. Those clowns are back to wearing them now.

Welcome Q.
"God made very few of us with perfect heads. He put hair on all the rest."
One of the other bros here in the forum has a line under his pic that is also good, "real men don't waste testosterone on hair".

Welcome Q. You will get some stares but they will mainly be coming from the people you already know and that know you well. It's just going to be a natural reaction from them seeing the "new you." Some may like it and some may not. But if they are true friends and family then they will not judge you no matter what they think about it.

Welcome aboard Q!
You're gonna wonder why it took you so long! :*))

Welcome aboard Q.

Well, reaction has been mixed. I feel better, and I guess that is all the matters. The graying and comb-over were causing more stress that having no hair at all. I need to keep an eye on the sunscreen till I get some color on it. Thanks again for the support, I think I will lurk around on the site regularly. :o
-
Looks good. Won't take long to get some color on there.
-
Q,
I've gotta say, "SLY" REALLY looks good on you! O0 Congratulations!!!
-
Good for you...looks very natural on you!
-
Q, that's a great look for you!

You rock the look, Q! O0
On the sunscreen question check out the pics of my skin cancer on Ty's fine blog. The "C" had nothing to do with being sly, it had to do with thinking that once I got my "base tan" all was cool. I had to have a chunk the size of a quarter taken out of my forehead right down to the brain-housing group. The pic there is of my skull with a thin layer of blood on it after the cancer was cut out. I also have a website that has a series of 4 pics on it which shows the progression starting from the dry, scaly patch through the post op with the sutures out. http://www.msnusers.com/BuddhasBigC

Buddha, that's rough lookin man, I hope it is all gone! I'm getting me some spf 30 right now. Got a little color over the last couple days, but don't want to over do it all at once. Thanks.

I have a friend that nearly lost his life to skin cancer.

I can't stress enough the importance of hats/sunscreen now. The doc is confident he got it all, it isn't the fatal kind.....it would just make me uglier. But I never thought that something like this could happen to me. What an eye opener! I don't go out for prolonged periods without my trusty boonie or some Coppertone 50. The doc told me that this is cumulative, part of the damage was recent but most of it probably started happening when I was a kid. It's the kind of thing I would never have thought about unless I had to go under the knife as a result.
Take good care of that dome, brother!
-
Q... your dome is rocking. O0

Me too!
Q the bald head suits you, it will tan up before long and you will be rocking the bald look.
-
Q, a late welcome to you here, and good for you for just going for it.
You look like a natural, but color will come in time. Main thing is to protect the dome.
Enjoy the forum, and your new found freedom!
