Jack Brickhouse - Announcer for the Cubs in the mid 70's to 80's. I was in junior high. All Cubs home games were day games because of no lights at Wrigley. I could hardly wait to get home after school and listen to Jack Brickhouse and Milo Hamilton do the games.
Jack is now passed. Milo does games for the Astros radio network. They were great. I always loved it when a Cub hit a home run because Jack's call was "Hey Hey" and it would flash across the bottom of the screen.
Jack was the best. With all due respect, Warhawk, Harry Caray could not carry Jack Brickhouse' microphone case. However, I do enjoy Skip Caray, long time announcer of the Braves, who is Harry's son.

I think the two most recognizable voices of sports would be the late Howard Cosell and Vin Scully of the LA Dodgers. Never cared for Cosell, but you can't deny you'd recognize that voice anywhere. Scully is just plain ol' smooth.
Personal favorite was the late, great Bill King (he of the "Holy Toledo" call). Whenever you see old Oakland Raider highlights from the NFL Network and they use the Raiders' highlights, that's him. One of his best moments was when the Raiders beat Miami in the "Sea of Hands" game. John Madden (many forget he was the Raiders' head coach) was on the sidelines after the play in which the Raiders scored the winning TD. King says on the airwaves "Madden wants to know if it's real. The refs said, 'It's a touchdown, Coach'. Now get your fat butt back on the sideline". ;D Classic Bill King. He also did play by play for the Golden State Warriors.
For the last 20 years, he was the Oakland A's announcer. He was one of the best and there were many times I listened to the A's radio broadcast instead of the TV feed. For many years, our TV crew stunk. He died in the winter of 2005. He is definitely missed in Oakland. :'(

soonersteve: wow... i haven't 4gotten jack brickhouse. i loved the way he broadcasted the cubs games on wgn. i remember him when my dad introduce me 2 baseball as a 5 - 6 year old boy living in the chicagoland area. funny... U R giving me some gr8 memories of my childhood w/ the his "hey, hey!". i will agree that harry carey could not carry brickhouse's microphone case but harry carey's energy & voice were very entertaining. with all due respect 2 him... i know he was hoisting a few brews while broadcasting. i remember when my dad took me, my brother, & beloved mom 2 the cubs game as a child... i remember seeing harry carey with a beer in hand between innings when he stepped out of the broadcasting booth. ;D

I miss Keith Jackson the college football anouncer.
"WHOA NELLIE!"

As big of a Cubbies fan that I am, it may be sacreligous to say this, but I love listening to Bob Uecker (Milwaukee Brewers) call a game!

Well Vin Scully is definetly the most recognizable to me with Jon Miller a close second...... but my favorite of all time was Chuck Thonpson who did Baltimore Colts and Orioles games for decades. This guy had the greatest voice and was famous for his very Baltimore one liners such as:
Ain't the beer cold! (after a great play, etc.)
The bases are F.O.B.!! (Full of Birds)
Go to war miss Agnes!!!! (When something unusual happened)
There were many more Chuck-isms. He was elected to the broadcasters Hall of Fame a few years back before he died. He went mostly blind in later years which kept him from calling games any more. Man I can still hear his voice as i sat on the front stoop at night as a kid..... hot summer night, drinking iced tea and listening to Chuck call the games. Living in the city, you could walk up and down the streets in the neighborhood and it seemed like every other house had Chuck blaring out the game on the radio. You could walk the whole neighborhood and never miss any of the game...........

I remember Bill King too. Him along with Harmon Killabrew were the voices that I would sit in my room and listen to on the radio.
