Title: WARHAWK's alcohol review...
Post by: warhawk on April 27, 2008, 11:57:29 AM
hello fellow chrome domes:  as U know i've discovered a new "product" 2 add 2 my routine that i discovered a couple of weeks ago @ the barbershop.  anyways...i'm doing a one week review that i will call WARHAWK's ALCOHOL REVIEW and no paulie its not the alcohol that u drink. :D  it's the rubbing alcohol.  anyways... here is how i incorporate the rubbing alcohol 2 my routine:

memo:  during this review:  i will B shaving my dome (independently) in the shower since most of U are shower shavers.  dang... i'm going 2 miss my wifey shaving the dome.  the suffering and pain that i will experience just 2 do my review. :D

1   jump in shower and wet  noggin' w/ hot water
2   apply shave secret oil 2 dome
3   apply headslick on dome (let sit 1 minute)
4   generously spray rubbing alcohol (using a small spray bottle)  2 dome GENEROUSLY (let sit for 1-2 minutes)
5   start shaving
6   cold water rinse
7   pat dry w/ towel
8   ice cube rub
9   pat dry w/ towel
10 apply witch hazel or clear aloe vera gel
11  let air dry
12  rinse razor & spray rubbing alcohol 2 razor
13  self head rub
14  big cheesy grin after self head rub O0

anyways... that's my routine that i started this morning.  i'll give U my final review on the rubbing alcohol after one week.  as of now... adding the rubbing alcohol has given me one of the closet shaves ever.  i hope that U will experience the same. O0

I'm thinking maybe the alcohol tightens the skin?

Think it helps keep the blades free from buildup.  I've been dipping the HB in alcohol before each pass and it makes the shaving slick as a seals bottom.

Hmmmmm....so I wonder how many of you Sly guys are gonna give this a try?  I dotn think I even have any alcohol here in the house...other than some Jim Beam and Bud Light..might find a wine cooler or two...

I figured the alcohol would dry out the skin.  Plus I thought the alcohol was usually used as a post shave to close pores?  Wouldn't it close the pores and not give as close of a shave?  But I guess if it's working then go for it.

I tried it this morning and my head was really dry.....so I resorted back to the aloe vera gel.

timmy:  the rubbing alcohol dried your skin??  it shouldn't dry out your skin unless U didn't finalized your routine with the aloe vera gel?  if U view my routine... i incorporated the rubbing alcohol b4 i scraped the dome not as a final step.

hello fellow chrome domes:

i've just completed my 7-day alcohol review.  i've experimented using ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL or rubbing alcohol 2 my headshaving routine.  I give this product a big, sly "thumbs up"!!!
it has made my dome even more smooooth.  as U can see... in my new headshaving routine (above) i generously spray the rubbing alcohol on my dome b4 i "scrape" it with my razor.  i also discovered that if U spray your razor after a few strokes (i learned this from paul...he dips his hb in alcohol) that it will make your razor "ride" smooth over your dome.

PROs:

Makes the razor "ride" slippery, smooth on your dome
Keeps your dome super, smoooooth
Keeps your dome stubble-free longer
Increases additional "life" 2 your razor
Decreases irritation
Cheap product that U can buy anywhere

CONs:

DON'T get this in your eyes (burns like heck!!!)
If U don't use aloe vera gel or some type of moisturizer after your headhave it will dry your scalp

all in all... the rubbing alcohol is an excellant product 2 add to your daily headshaving routine because it decreases irritation, adds additional life 2 your razor, keeps your dome stubble-free longer, and most importantly keeps your dome super, slippery, smoooooth.  i will continue using this in my head shaving routine.  i hope that U will get the same sly results as me.  well... that's my story.  i hope that U will have similar results.  take care & i'll  C  ya 'round the sly neighborhood.

Great review Mel. Sounds like a keeper of a routine.
jdog:  it's a definite keeper in my new routine.  i also 4 got 2 add that U can purchase a small 2 oz. spray bottle at wal-mart.  it is located in the health/beauty aisle in the travel-size section.  U know...where they keep the travel-size soaps, mouthwash, toothpaste, etc.  it is only 50cents.  it is a perfect container 4 the rubbing alcohol. Hey Mel...I've tried your routine exactly as you have it outlined here and it's a winner for me too.  I've been trying different things for about the last six months...striving for the smoothest dome possible.  Spraying the alcohol over the headslick has made a major difference for me.  It's like freakin' magic!  I've also found that the stubble is greatly reduced when I finish my workday...looks almost as good as a fresh morning headshave.
Thanks Much,

You left out 1 major result for me to attempt this routine. What kinda timeframe you talking for the whole process?? Seems like it could be a tad bit longer than my usual  ???

champ:  it depends on the headshaver.  4 me it added another 2-3 minutes but it is definitely worth it.   O0

CHAMP: you just spray on the alcohol after the headslick, gel, or whatever and let all the stuff sit up there for a minute or two...no big deal...takes about two more minutes.

Definitely not trying to knock my boy Mel but I gave it a try for the last two shaves and it just didn't seem to do anything different for me.  Plus my scalp has a tendency to dry a lot anyway so I don't need anything else up there to help dry it out.  The routine I have using Bald Guyz products has been working great for a while now.  So I'll just stick with it.

I havent tried the alcohol trick yet but I plan on picking up the supplies to start it on the weekend.
Different things work for different people. Some people love the Headblade some love the Fusion.

I don't know if it was because of using the Bald Guyz gel or not.  But I just gave the alcohol trick another try using HeadSlick and it worked like a charm.  It really did seem to make my head smoother after the shave.  It also felt cleaner too.  Thanks Mel.  I have found, yet, another routine.   O0

Dang!  I guess I spoke too soon on this one.  This time it has really dried my dome out pretty bad.  I thought it was all cool.  I got done and applied some Bald Guyz Moisture Gel.  But for the last hour or so my dome keeps drying out.  I keep having to apply more gel.  It must be from the alcohol.  Oh well...thought I found a new routine.

Okay, did the Shave Secret, Headslick, then I spray, and everything-i.e. the lather DISAPPEARS--shaving by feel.  I don't know about the shave--I didn't get to the gym this morning and that always is a negative on the quality of the shave, it's better if I've been up for an hour or so.  Hopefully I drag my Butt to the gym in the morning and I'll give it another try.  Smell is gruesome.

Tried it again a while ago.  I guess it's just not for me.  Like Saintc said, I really can't get pass the smell in the first place.  Reminds me of gas.  Plus it almost stings a little when I spray it on the dome.  Just too much to deal with for me.  I'm going back to the usual.

Day two--changed the routine--and I got to the gym before I shaved.  I showered, then soaped up the scalp and face w/ water and Cuticura Soap (an antibacterial acne soap), applied baby oil, then sprayed w/ alcohol, then applied Fusion Hydrate Gel.  Everything disappeared w/ the spray, and the Gel didn't foam as much as usual.  I am a Power Fusion over the sink shaver.   BUT, it was a very good shave, clean, smooth.  Now to see how long to sandpaper--usually 7 to 8 hours, and how long to velcro--usually 20-24 hours.  More coming.  Judgment today, +1 or +2 over no spray on a scale of 10.  Stench of the spray is somewhat overcome by the Gel that has a higher perfume content than Headslick, but still more than I really like.

Hey Warhawk!

Got some witch hazel and alcohol from the dollar store today, and gave it a try.  It has been  2 days since I've shaved my head because I am getting used to using my Mach 3 and Head Slick.  Got a few bumps and minor irritation.  Didn't feel like pushing my luck.  After adding the alcohol and witch hazel to my routine (which is an ongoing work in progress), my dome is smoother than ever!  No more electric shaver for me!  The whole routine took about 15 minutes.  Frequently spraying my razor with alcohol eliminated the slight pulling.  The witch hazel immediately calmed my scalp and eliminated what little bumps I had left on my head.

My head is smoother than ever!  Thanks so much for the tips!   O0 O:O
