Title: Pure (clear) Aloe Vera Gel
Post by: jusbnme on April 25, 2008, 12:29:53 PM
What's up my Sly Bros?  Just wanted to add a little more advice and a tip on what PBurke and TimmJ came up with.  I started using Fruit Of The Earth brand clear aloe vera gel after hearing Paulie and TimmJ talk about it so much.  It's been working great for me after shaving.  Haven't had no irritations at all.  I never took notice to the back of the bottle until today.  In very small writing is has a few tips.  For instance, one tip says to using it as a hair styling gel.  Then there are some others but I can't remember right now.  But the first one says, "Use as a shaving gel."  I thought about for a minute and figured that it made sense.  Because it works great after shaving to calm irritation down and it feels so good on the dome.  Plus it's "just about" all natural.  Also I've noticed that after I've applied it, after shaving, when I go to rinse it off my hands it's very slick.  So once I read the tip about using it as a shave gel a light bulb went off in my head.  This morning I was due for a shave so I gave it a try.  It really did work, and very good at that.  I just basically did the same thing you would do for a shaving oil.  I shaved in the shower.  I got the dome nice and wet with warm water for a few minutes.  Then put about a quarter sized amount of the gel in my hands.  Worked it in and started shaving.  It stayed nice and slick.  I think mainly because of the steam.  I don't know how it would work at the sink.  I did have to apply a little more before I finished.  But I have to say that it was pain free and no irritation what so ever.  Then when I was done I just rinsed with cold water to close the pores like usual.  Got out.  Patted the dome dry and then applied some more gel for the final touch as a post after shave.  Felt great.  Just wanted to pass it along because if it works for anybody else out there like it did for me you could save a lot on buying all the "extra" stuff for shaving.  Like I said, I have the Fruit of the Earth brand but you can buy any generic and it has the same stuff in it.  Just make sure it's the clear kind that doesn't have any alcohol in it.  I think places like Rite-Aid, CVS, Wal-Greens, etc...has generic forms of it in a big bottle for under $4.

Right on Lance  O0  I've never used it to shave my whole head, but I do put it around my ears and touch up with a razor where my headblade missed.  It does work great.  My HeadLube has stayed in the drawer for a while now because I'm only using Aloe.  It's great stuff...

From the amount of good feedback on here  I have purchased a tube of Aloe Vera gel with SPF 30+. I will give it a try on the weekend and see how it goes.
