Title: 1st bad comment today...
Post by: leathermonkey7 on April 24, 2008, 03:31:52 PM
So far, everyone has been super positive. Then these 2 girls today sat shocked as I walked by. One of them said: "What the hell did you do to your head? It looks awful!" The other said: "Yeah, we should just name you "Chemo"  My heart sort of sank a bit, and out of the blue, a much more attractive female friend of mine walked up and said to them: "Yeah, didnt you know? He has cancer, and is going to die" The other two girls turned white. They kept saying sorry, sorry... blah blah blah.  Then me and the pretty one startted cracking up with laughter... "The jokes on you bitches!" They were the ones that ended up being embarrased. Cancer is nothing to joke about, but when she said it, I went along and it was funny.

Don't worry about "those" kind of people bro.  You are going to get it every now and then.  I got it when I first started shaving slick 3 years ago.  I had a few people at work ask me if I had cancer.  I just said to them, "What if I really did?  Maybe you shouldn't joke about it."  They would feel horrible after that and so I got my satisfaction in the end.   ;)

That's cool that the more attractive chick stood up for you.  I think the other girls were just intimidated by your new look.

I used the "chemo" line on somebody a few years ago. It was nice to see what I look like when I say something STOOPID! :-[
It was even nicer to see it on somebody else.

Glad you got em.

Should have just walked over to them ... leaned in ... *sniff sniff* and said "You smugglin' carp?" and walked away.

Cancer / chemo is a topic that is just not cool to joke about (and I will pretty much will rip on anything). You never know who has had to deal with it.

Well I dont think Leather was anywhere at fault here....the two immature girls had already broken that when they refered to him as a Chemo patient.   I wouldnt worry to much about mindless lil worthless brats like them.  It was one of those things that was heading towards doom for you but ended up in a good way..

They were obviously intimidated by you, so I certainly wouldn't get upset about it ...

That was a really stupid thing for them to joke about.  I like to push the envelope with sick jokes, but that's just too far over the line.   Someone should have given them a slap in the face ...

My 45 year old friend just died of cancer 3 weeks ago and went through hell with chemo. There's just nothing remotely funny about someone going through chemo.

I agree with you Andrew....until someone actually goes thru cancer or is involved with someone close who has cancer.....they have no clue.

I would have probably so "No I'm fine but did you have lipo-suction?" And when they asked why I would have said "Because your asses don't look quite so fat today!"

Sounds like just a couple of stupid bimbos to me.

The only person who really doesn't like my sly look is my mother, but I think she's finally getting used to it.

I guess all mothers have a kind of problems with that, ask me.
The shorter my buzzes get the more often i got to hear, "Did you cut your hair again, it's so short and everyone see's your are balding!" (ha, it's very obvious that i'm, nothing to hide anymore)

Beside of that, since my hair are thinning, i got a lot of stuff like shampoo's and things from my Family.
I know it's all for good, but i don't believe that this stuff will work. I just try to feel pleased with it and i let them go.

I'm curious about what the comments will be if i come home someday the the "sly" look.

I bet no mother actually likes their son sly.  :Xo!
Seems my mother has also gotten used to my bald head, 'cause it's been a while since she's asked me to grow my hair back.

As for that "chemo" remark, I'd take that real personal if someone said that 2 me. My initial headshave was in support of my brother who was actually ungoing chemo 2 years ago.

Anyone that makes a remark like that is just plain ignorant.

I'm with you on that one SlickEric.  The first 2 times I went sly was for the Cops For Cancer fund raiser and I did it as I had an uncle who was battling cancer and has since passed from it and several other family members, friends and co-workers.  I lost it the one and only time someone made a comment like that to me and somewhat regret the way I handled it however no one has made one since and I don't think anyone will.

It really is unfortunate that there are so many stupid and ignorant people out there.  On the other hand, I thank then every day I go to work, as if it wasn't for them, all of us in law enforcement would be out of a job.

My mom is a chemo nurse, so when i walked into her office for the first time, all of the people in the office thought it was awesome. Later she told me that it made her patients feel better about losing their hair.

I posted this elsewhere... Buddy of mine gave me a good come back for any of the village idiots (VI) who can't help but make a stupid remark...here's the clean version:

VI:  "Hey, what the heck did you do to your head?"
Me: "John said you were an idiot, I said you weren't...I lost the bet."

Feel free to change the wording to suit the 'individual'...
