Title: How do people pronounce your hometown or states name?
Post by: Timmay on April 23, 2008, 09:54:15 PM: Why I thought of this I have no idea..but I was just wondering, do you ever have to correct the way someone pronounces the name of your home town or state?

Well I have many of times. I live in Washington Indiana..get it..."WASH"ington...not WORSHINGTON. Drives me insane when people say that. The bad part is...most of the people who say it are BORN and RAISED here.

While on the subject..what city is the most controversial on how it is pronounced??

KALI is slang and sounds just plain ol' silly.

The people that aren't from here pronounce every syllable. AT-lan-TA. All of us natives just look at each other and know that they ain't from around here! LOL

No one has answered the most controversial city name yet....so I guess I will tell ya...Louisville KY

New Or LEE NS is the bad one, New Or Lee Ans, is the "Uptown" way, Nawlins is "Downtown." Just my picayunish contribution, mon cher ami.
