Yardwork? Why bother? The weeds on our hillside are beautiful this time of the year! :*))
-
I started my yard work today, I watched the guys trimming the trees at the hotel here, man I tired now, that was hard work
-
I did most of the weeding, fertilizing, over seeding, etc. a couple of weeks ago.
Now I am moving on to some of those pesky outdoor projects. I am going to redo our patio in tile or stone this year... and I am really considering painting the house too...ugh!

Fertilizer, crab grass killer on. Roses trimmed and even constructed a new garden around a fountain. Mowed the lawn last weekend. Yeah, guess I've started the yard work. Wanna help?

It's funny, we had landscaping service for the last two years, but last fall, they really started to suck. So I canceled the service and returned to mowing the lawns, edging, and weeding. Lawns look good, edging is on tap for this weekend, and been keeping on weeding (for the most part). The biggest issue I have is in the back yard. We have a retaining wall that limits our truly useable space in our backyard (despite the fact we pay tax on the 2k SF of land above the retaining wall). Everything below the wall looks great (Star Jasmine smell awesome this time of the year) but we'll likely change out a few bushes this year.
Anyway, the plants around the perimeter of the area above the retaining wall are doing great (escallonias, and a few bushes across the top). But the middle has bitten the dust. I've pulled much of the ground cover (myoporium) and I know there's an irrigation issue. We're planning on blowing it up this summer and starting over.

DID THE WEED&FEED 2WEEKS AGO AND YESTERDAY WAS THE FIRST EDGING,TRIMMING, AND LAWN CUT OF THE YEAR ...........NOW THAT SPRING HAS FINALLY ARRIVED IN MICHIGAN. THIS WINTER WAS LONG, COLD AND SEEMED TO BE NEVER ENDING!.
-
The wife is bugging me to move rock and plant some grass. She started planting flowers and stuff last weekend.
-
Although I have a landscaping company do my spring cleanup and mowing, I still do alot myself.
Did some seeding, spreaded 5 yards of mulch, trimmed the hedges, cleaned out my 200' drainage ditch and power washed my house, deck, and windows. All of that during the past 2 weekends.
I want to replace my back walkway with pavers sometime soon ...
-
I do the mowing and weed eating. My wife does her thing with the flowers. I planted a few new shrubs last weekend. Now I need to get about 25 - 30 bags of mulch to lay down and I will be set. That may be a project for this weekend. If it doesn't rain,.....again......

I have a 3/4 of the way finished house trying to get siding on it and all you can think about is the damn yard work? Bro...you need to truck your sweet arse up here to sw indiana and give this brother a hand....Yes please..Hold the applause................Thank You!
My grass is so in need of a good mowing. But you know what, I have the back side of my house exposed to the old wooden siding it once had and was covered by aluminum siding. I have it all riped off now....just gotta get the house wrap on the back side and the vinyl hung. So if you have any free time you all, I got a yard that needs nails picked up out of it first. Oh and leave you magnets home......cause these are aluminum nails....they dont pick up very well LOL
Spring is great isnt it? Please someone remind me how nice it is...Please!
-
2 words... Hell Yes
I have to cut the friggin grass again this weekend (5th time), rain keeps coming, damn stuff keeps growing.
Worst of all, made my kid cut the grass last year, that night his eyes swoll up and were all red, next day he looked like hell, took him to the doctor, after test were ran Doc came in and looked at him and said, I have good news for ya, we know what caused it. I looked at the Doc and said, whatever you say don't tell me he is allergic to grass... Doc looked at me and just smiled. Appears fresh cut grass is not in his biology!!!
Looking to buy a cheap oxygen mask and tank... anyone sellin???
-
I have some artificial turf I can sell ya....lol
-
I have thought about cement and green paint!!!
-
put a net up and you can play tennis....hey its a thought
-
Yard work...you could say I love it...the wife sometimes hates that I love it so much...
Not mowing though..have never mowed my own grass in the 8 years of owning my homes... I'll do EVERYTHING else though!
Here's some of my past yards, it's killing me I can't really work when I want these days. Both because the weather and the family...
such is life!

Thanks WH...that's one of the things I would like to pursue as a profession (the pics are from my portfolio)...
Here's a different shoot of the first back yard, I think it turned out awesome for my wifes baby shower (the couple we sold our first house to later became our best friends and they were kind enough to throw us the party there...
BTW the yard sealed the deal of the sale! ;)

Andre - you're very talented ... That seems like the kind of work people would be willing to pay alot of $$$ for....
-
Andre - you've got skillz bro! O0 I mowed my lawn for the first time yesterday. I have a service come out and fertilize for me. I did the math and it was about the same cost of me buying the bags of Scotts and doing it myself. Sprinkling - I do have underground sprinkling, but I haven't had a need to turn it on yet.
The temp here in MI is going to drop from the 70s this week to 40 this weekend. I doubt I'll get much done outside.
-
Lawn/Yard work? I wish I had a yard to maintain.
BA, that is some truly phenomenal landscaping there. Very worthy of the magazine spreads.
Well done mate O0
-
Yes, because I dont think the Palm trees would survive here very long. I dunno though...with the winters that we have been having..pretty mild...they just might...Palm trees wont be considered coastal states any more! LOL as well as earthquakes
-
I did my 4th mowing last night :Xo! In Texas, our mowing season goes from April - November. Way too much. I have 1 1/2 acre lot that takes about 3 hours total to mow and trim.
-
BA, you're a dude with many talents.
Wow, my wife would like you for a husband. Did I say husband!
I mean landscaper.
I believe I mentioned this somewhere before.
I'm buying a new mower. Thinking about this Troy-built.

Yes. Here is what I have done in the 2 months (live in Birmingham. Been warm for a bit).
Backyard:
1. Put up a new iron fence to seperate the dogs side of the backyard and our side.
2. Planted 6 azaleas, 2 willows, 6 flats of flowers, 3 grape vines, and several ferns.
3. Built my little girls slide/swing/treehouse (that sucked).
4. Weeded
Front Yard:
1. Fertilized front and back 2 times now with my special recipe :)
2. Put in water pond and assorted plants, and run a pump underground to it.
3. lots of flowers.
4. new straw everywhere.
5. Edge like crazy.
6. Weeded...alot. Love the dirt new houses use under the grass.
Its starting to green up and looks better than everyone else's. Outside work clears my head.
-
Outside work clears my head.
Amen to that bro...
and BTW, weeds suck! >:(
-
Outside work clears my head.
it makes me tired :*)) :*)) :*))
-
Sure did! The lawn guy came out today! O0
-
I just unloaded 20 bags of mulch. I've got some work to do now. :Xo!
-
It's already been 90 degrees a few days so everything's starting to grow like crazy. Hybrid bermuda lawn is almost all green and looking good enough to putt on. Tomato crop has been in the ground for a month and all the shrubs and boxwood hedges are pruned and looking sharp. Flushed out the drip irrigation lines and replaced two sprinkler heads, too. Always something more to do and I love being outside.
-

Isn't that the truth. I don't think I would ever run out of things to do outside. But it very rewarding. There's just something about seeing the results of your work. Especially in the spring time when it's just nice to be outside. I don't even mind mowing the yard.
-
Planted clematises and a new rambler rose and some other plant and cleaned the tracks of my G-scale model railroad.

...Tell me about it brother!
I'm a person that doesn't need sun to have a good disposition....
but come on, snow hail and cold temps just near May and a total of maybe 6 sunny days this "spring"...
what happened to real spring?!

Rick do you buy your mulch from a big chain or from a local supplier?
This has nothing to do with yardwork but my parents put in a coal stove last year and my Dad rented a 10 ton dumptruck and drove 6 hours to Pennsylvania and loaded that thing to the brim with anthracite coal.
-

As I've said before...."If you can't find it at Wally World, you probably don't need it". They just usually the cheapest. And wood chips are wood chips.
