Title: Earthday and keepin' it green...the SLY GUY way!
Post by: BALDANDRE on April 22, 2008, 05:32:00 PM
Our bald bro BaldBen was kind enough to get us thinking on all the earth friendly things we can be doing...
Ok, we seem to agree it's cool to do our part...but the "how" can get confusing and sometimes seem pointless...
so I was thinking what simple things we can do that will help , but have not been talked about by our friends in the media...

Here goes with one I thought of...

When you're out and feel like havin' a beer, opt for a draft from a keg tap...
you'll save on all the bottling and recycling wasted power and energy used to make and remake those containers!!!!

Oh and don't worry too much about jobs being lost...most bottles are made and then filled and labeled with machines these days...so kegs wont be taking THAT many jobs away...they'll just move those fine folks over to the keg detail areas ;)

I'm sure you SLY dudes can come up with some even better ones....

Any takers?

I fart directly into my gas tank. It reduces my carbon footprint and increases my fuel economy my .000001 miles per gallon.

Then I buy a carbon offset to expunge my guilt.   :*))

Buy a bicycle (if you dont already have one) and ride it for those little trips to the store or to rent a movie, etc.
Or walk... helps with them 6 pack abs too...  O0

Fight for the greenbelt / undeveloped land in your area, dont let it get sold out and turned into condos.

use organic products for things like weed killing. They also have environmentally safe parts cleaning solutions (solvent) for those of you that are into fixing cars / bikes etc.

Go to a car wash that recycles their water, uses less water and doesn't wash soap and chemicals into the sewer.

Conserve energy by wearing some clothes or grabbing a blanket instead of turning the heat up. Buy a kiddie pool and flop around in it in the summer when its hot and keep the AC usage down.

Chill on the wood fires, once in awhile is ok but for a main source of heat look into a pellet stove or something a little more efficient and less polluting.

those are the things we try to do (along with your typical recycling and such).

Better yet, get NetFlix and you don't have to drive to the video rental store!

Marz,
Here in the south a AC is necessity. A kiddie pool will evaporate in about 2 hours. Also mosquitoes are like big vampire bats....
Main things to help cutdown on the usage of the AC is insulate your attic with blanket insulation, install attic vents so the heat can escape, install ceiling fans in your main areas of the house and run them on low, and open your windows at night when the sky is not cloudy (Heat cannot escape the atmosphere on cloudy nights).
Also, check your appliances like your tivo, dish DVR, direct tv DVR, and pc's. These machines all have processors and should be shut down when not in use because they put out alot of heat. I found that my Dish DVR updates everynight at 3pm which means it has to run full power, so I acutally turn my power-strip off 6 nights a week.
