Title: NHL PLAYOFFS ANYONE?!?!?!?!?
Post by: bludger44 on April 16, 2008, 02:12:40 PM
Does anyone care about hockey anymore? Or am I the only one left?  ;D No one at work likes it, only my friends and family from MA

There we go! I'm a Bruins fan myself. Definitely jealous of the Sharks fans enjoying the services of my favorite player in the league....Joe Thornton

Bruins eh. Do the names Hull or Esposito sound familiar..?

Oh yeah...we all know Espo in these parts. My dad watched the Bruins when he played, a bit before my time. But I'm familiar with him through what I've heard from my dad.

Joe's been a great addition to Team Teal. We squeaked it out last night (almost lost despite giving up only a team record 10 SOG). Joe scored the winner on a tip in. He was completely left alone in the crease and Murray took a slap shot from the point and JT tipped it in with 9 seconds left. We now have home ice back.

I played amateur hockey for 13 yrs. Considering dusting off the gear (great facilities near my home).

Yeah Joe had a nice tip in last night. Gotta love him.
That's awesome that you played amateur. I played in high school and was on my way to a scholarship but then I tore up my knee. ACL, PCL, and MCL. I wasn't able to step onto the ice for the rest of my high school career, and just joined a men's league this past winter. I definitely recommend dusting off the old gear, man. You will not regret it. It's often the highlight of my week!

Actually, I had ACL surgery the day after the last playoff game one season. I told my partner on D, "Eric, see you next fall".
"Whaddaya mean, Schro...you're not playing summer league?"
"Nope, going in for ACL reconstruction tomorrow morning at 7am".

His response "Why bother, I tore both my ACL's and never have bothered having them repaired".

At that moment, I seriously considered not doing it. I had no idea he was "ACL-less". He was one of the best D I've ever had the chance to play with. Awesome shot, strong as can be, heck of a skater. Apparently he played a lot of pick up with Bob Probert back in Michigan. It's true, you really can get by without your ACL when you play hockey since the change of direction is much more of a sliding motion than the quick stop & pivots of soccer & football. In fact, I played the entire fall/winter season that year with a torn ACL and had no issues. The Lovely Mrs. Schro keeps telling me I should just go down to the rink and get back into pick up, but ice times are late, and I've already got enough expensive hobbies.

I've never played hockey, but follow it during the playoffs.  How can I not be a fan living in Michigan?!

Go Wings!!

I was always a die-hard Red Wings fan growing up but I havent been able to follow hockey as much over the last 5 years. I did catch the Minnesota Vs. Colorado game the other day on cable which was great.

If you went to Melbourne Tom and announced your love for AFL they would hoist you on their shoulders and treat  you like a king. They are Aussie Rules mad there.

In Sydney AFL isnt as popular, Rugby(League&Union) are the dominant Football codes.

I studied abroad in Australia. Went to UNSW and lived in Coogee Beach. It was the time of my life. And I loved AFL, we saw the Swans play a couple of times. AFL was very entertaining. And obviously, seeing Australia v New Zealand in Rugby Union was excellent.

Awesome bludger, Coogee is a great spot. Did you ever go to the Coogee Bay Hotel? That place goes off on a weekend, I've seen quite a few good bands there over the years.

Oh man, lemme tell you. I was literally 100 yards from CBH. That place was great. And I was there during the 2004 postseason for MLB (yes my Red Sox won it all) and every American in Coogee was at CBH to watch baseball. There were about 150 Americans in CBH at 9am so we could watch the playoff games. But yeah CBH was always a great time. Loved the outdoor beer garden area as well.

By the way...GO BRUINS!!!! 5-1 over Montreal tonight...what a game!

I used to love hockey... till the lockout!  Then Stevie Y (The Captain and one of the best hockey players ever) retired.  I still do follow it, but not like I used to...

And GO WINGS!!!!
