Title: Ever had a Miracle in your life???
Post by: Mikekoz13 on April 16, 2008, 04:52:52 AM
We hear about miracles all the time but have you ever had a miracle happen in your life? I'll start:

My son Kody is 11 years old now and just a regular boy. He was born with no problems and the first eight months of his life were as normal as could be. But at 8 months he started having seizures. He was diagnosed with a fairly rare condition called Infantile Spasms. The doctors at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. diagnosed him and told us that his seizures would get worse and that he would begin to lose physical and mental capabilities. In a relatively short time he would wind up in a wheel chair and spend his life there with little quality of life. The diagnosis for 90% of kids with this condition was bleak. We were devastated.

Time went by and the seizures continued relentlessly for five years..... up to 24 seizures a day. But Kody never slid back physically or mentally. About a year into the whole thing i asked one of Kody's doctors why he hadn't wound up in that wheelchair and why he was "normal". The doctor looked me squarely in the eye and said, "I will not question a miracle..... you and your family have been blessed by one".

The seizures stopped just over six years ago and Kode-Man has some mild learning disabilities but he is no doubt our Miracle.

Back in my senior year in college, another guy fell asleep at the wheel, crossed the line and hit my car head-on on highway 65, just north of Springfield, MO.  It took a couple of hours to cut me out of the car and then get life-flighted to the hospital.  I spent the next 2 weeks in a coma, about 2 months in the hospital, and at one point stopped breathing and was put on life support.

I had alot of people praying for me, around the clock, for a couple of weeks.  Though I don't think of it often, because it has now been over 20 years ago, that was one point in my life that I know should have been different without divine intervention and friends and family that were praying for me.

Wow guys, Those are 2 of the best miracles I've heard. What an amazing outcome for both of you.

Rick I cant top being hit head on by a car and surviving however I do remember driving home from my job as a pizza cook my Senior year of High School in 1998 and crossing a level grade crossing that had no lights or guards down.

Just as I crossed the tracks at about 60mph I notice the car in the other lane was stopped right at the crossing. It took 1 second for my brain to process this and as I looked into the rear view mirror a giant train caming roaring through. Had I been 2 seconds earlier I would have been a car/man casserole. The hand of God was indeed watching over me that night.

I cant really think of any miracles that have happened to me.  When I think of miracles...I think of life threating situations or illnesses.  But, we all have miracles happening to us everyday that go unnoticed...such as waking up in the morning.  Every day is a miracle given to us from God.

Mike and Rick, after hearing your stories, it really ought to give some perspective to people who are depressed over losing hair.  Anyone falling into that category -- wake up and count life's blessings... oh, and don't forget to shave your head.

BAMMM!BAMMMM!!!  Stu really GETS it!  Count your blessings in life guys. But I should add here..... that these situations really do turn out to be blessings in so many ways. My son's problems have helped make me the man that I was never sure that I could be. EVERYTHING is in perspective in our family because of what we have been thru.

***Please be sure to check out Tony's(NAVRN) daughter's page that he posted a link to. ***I don't know Tony personally but I KNOW that I've experienced many of the same feelings over the years that he and his family has. Maybe even help a little girl out a bit.......

About 10 years ago I got way too drunk and like an idiot got behind the wheel.  Long story short I ended up wrapping my car around a tree.  I blacked out for a minute or two and went off the road.  The driver's side of the car slammed into a tree and the car was totaled.  I climbed out without a scratch at all.  Just sort of sore the next day.  The rescue crew couldn't stop talking about how they couldn't believe I was still alive.  Plus without a scratch for that matter.  As did everyone else that saw the car until it was sent to the junk yard.  I still count my lucky stars to this day.  The main thing I thanked God for was that I didn't kill or injure anyone else.  The best thing that came from it was that I cut back on drinking a whole lot.  Definitely never got behind the wheel again even after a sip.

Lance's story reminded me that on April 24th of 2006 on a beautiful Spring morning I was in a pretty serious car accident. i accidentally ran a stop sign, realized it at the last second, and swerved to avoid an accident aith a car coming the other way thru the intersection. He clipped my back end and my SUV went up onto the two wheels on the drivers side. I couldn't get the other wheels back to the ground before the car rolled over onto the driver's side, slid about 30 feet and then flipped onto the roof before sliding another 50 feet.
i was hanging upside down by the seatbelt but couldn't get it unsnapped.  i was on a side street in a neighborhood and yelled for help. A guy i actuall knew was working on a road crew where it happened and came running and said, "Is that you Mike?". he and another guy kind of lifted me up, i unsnapped the seatbelt, and crawled out thru the demolished and now very small window. The car was totalled.

Only mark on me was a small chemical burn on my bicep from where the airbag hit me. The paramedics were shocked that i wasn't hurt.

My pride was more hurt the next day when the photo of my demolished SUV, lying on it's roo,f appeared in the local paper with my name under the photo.

My ex-wife had some serious infertility problems.  She went through 5 years of excruciating treatments, involving my giving her big needles every day of hormone drugs.  After 5 years of this (7 cycles of artificial insemination and 5 cycles of invetro fertilization) we were on our last try, and like several other attempts, a few embryos were taking briefly and then started dying off, like before.  She went to the hospital and they confirmed that they'd all (I think we had 5 embryos put in) aborted.

A week later, she started having some discomfort, went to the infertility clinic and they couldn't figure out what was wrong.  They decided to do a pregnancy test and she was pregnant.  The doctors were in shock.  After having told us it was over, and the doctor recommending that she not try again, given that it was stastically unlikely it would ever work, SHE WAS PREGNANT.   9 months later we had a healthy girl, and now 15 years later she continues to be our little miracle (although a wise ass at 15).   The doctors said that given her conditions, it was a miracle.

They still have her picture up on the wall of the clinic ...

While on a local radio station promo trip to Cancun, after just having been certifed as an open water scuba diver, a friend of mine and I rented a jeep to drive down the coast.  Made it through a small beach bar between Cancun and Xel HA, the snorkeling place, when we flipped the jeep.  I was thrown an estimated 250 feet and landed in a patch of thorns that would have made Brer Rabbit a happy camper.  My head hit the roll bar and have a pretty severe head wound.  The jeep landed on top of my friend, pinning him between the jeep and, luckily, more thick patches of foliage with lots of thorns.  We were cut up, bruise, no broken bones, and was afraid my friend might have internal injuries.  The time in the Mexican Hospital was scary as hell.  A little girl, who had come in for food poisoning, was given 10 times the medication prescribed by the doctor and the doctor told us she was going to die, a horribly painful death as they had no counter medications.  At that point, regardless of how much pain we were in, we wouldn't let them administer any injections.  We got a total of 400+ stitches between us and both still alive today 27 years later.

When it's your time, it's your time, or so I always figured.

Great thread, hope you guys all remain safe and, if need be, a miracle comes your way.

I've survived two head-on collisions in my life.

The first was back when I was in the Navy and a bunch of us were out partying and cruising the town in a '73 Impala. We wound up getting hit head-on by someone in another Impala who was drunker than we were.

I went through the windshield and was peeled off the hood. I got away with just a few sutures above my right eye.

The second one was the day after Christmas in '04. I hit a patch of black ice up north in my little Geo Tracker and then hit a Lincoln Navigator head-on. I spent two months in the hospital after they cut me out of the car.

The whole right side of my body was crushed and I still walk with a limp because my pelvis was shattered and they had to install three pounds of pins and screws to put everything back together. But I survived it and was even able to return to trucking after 14 months of recovery time despite the doctors saying I'd never work again.

Close enough to a miracle for me.

Here is a story to share. I was 18 at the time and a senior in high school. I was out on a Saturday night with some friends past curfew. I had told my mom I was staying at a friend's house that night. We were partying at a buddy's house and having a good time. I stayed sober since I had to take my girlfriend at the time home. After taking her home, she said meet me across the street in an hour, I'll sneak out. I was there, but she wasn't. Turns out she had a little too much to drink and got pretty sick. I waited a couple of hours and paged her several times with no success. I decided to drive back to the house we were partying at to spend the night. I never made it. While driving down a pretty deserted street at 3 AM, I fell asleep at the wheel and hit a tree in the median head on. I remember waking up just before hitting the tree and thinking, "OH $%!%!!!" When I woke up again, my Ranger pickup which I'd had less than a month, was sitting on the passenger side and I was hanging there, suspended by my seat belt. I could feel something wet on my face, but wasn't sure what it was. I blacked out until I heard the voices of two good Samaritans whom had stopped to see what was the matter. One of them jumped onto the driver side and tried to open the door to no avail. The second one crawled in through the hole where the back window used to be (it popped out in one piece). He managed to get my seat belt undone and I don't remember if they drug me out or what, but I was laying in the road next to the median when a newspaper van stopped and asked if he should call 911. The police, fire department and ambulance showed up and they carted me to the hospital. Got four stitches in my left eyelid and some bruises. That was it. Took a few days off school and I was good as new. Totaled my Ranger, and I hadn't even made the first payment yet. They told me the seat belt and the guys who stopped probably saved my life. To this day I still don't know who those guys were, but I am very thankful they stopped to help me.

PigPen that is quite an amazing story and I am glad you have recovered and didnt suffer any severe injuries.

Good Samaritans have saved the lives of countless hundred of thousand, especially at accident sites.

In 1998 ,my junior year of high school, 2 guys that I knew were driving home from a party at 6am. Probably drunk or under the influence somehow,I'm not sure. They were driving down and curvy road that hugged the river and Matt was driving and Andy was following him about 1/4 mile behind.

Somehow Matt lost control of the car and crashed into a tree. When Andy come upon the accident Matt's legs were pinned by the crushed front end and the car was engulfed in flames. Andy tried his best to try to pull Matt out of the car but he was just pinned in and his legs were crushed. He watched his friend burn to death before police and fire trucks got there. He suffereed severe 3rd degree burns to his arms and face which he will carry for the rest of his life, his reminder of his valiant attempt to save his friends life.

I have had many miracles in my life. To start with, when I was born my intestines or something was to small, I lost 4 lbs in the first couple weeks of my life before they figured out what it was and I got surgery, I have a scar running all the way across my belly, it looks like a fat wrinkle.
Then when I was 7 I got attacked by a pitbull on memorial day. I went to pet it, it was kinda peer pressure, I wanted to fit in so I did it. It turned out they had been teasing the dog before. I went to pet it and as soon as I was close enough it jumped on me and started ripping into me. The dog stopped just long enough for me to crawl under a nearby car, then right as I got under it it tried to get my foot. I crawled all the way under the car then ran home. Once I got home my mother freaked out and was screaming. She came to her senses and got me a wash rag to stick on my cheek to absorb blood. We went to the emergency room and I had to get over 100 stitches. The dog bit off my upper left lip, bit open my lower right cheek so much that you could see my teeth, it got my upper left cheek just over the cheek bone, and on my right shoulder. I had reconstructive surgery on my lip so that it looks more normal and not so creepy. The scar on my shoulder looks like a cross with a few spots from the stitches making it look like a halo.
Then two years after that I was riding on the handle bars of a bike and the person that was pedling hit the back tire of another bike which sent me flying about 40 or so feet. My head skid across the road which started to split my right ear from my head. The doctor said that if I would have gone a couple more inches I wouldnt have an ear.
When I was about 12 I showed a steer at fair and got a blister so I was bare foot. I went to get the steer out to clean his stall and he stepped on my right foot and I shoved him so he then stepped on my left foot. The miracle there was that I didnt get a broken foot or anything, I just cant feel either of my big toes and have little to no feeling in my second toes.

My miracles are mostly from stupidity in a way but they are still miracles.
