Hi there. I went bald at 20, tried a rug for 5 years, and have been wearing a baseball cap for the last 10 years. I had almost a crippling fear of any type of social events where you couldnt wear a hat, and I'd have to expose my big, white bald head. I'd pick up girls, and then they would freak when they got my hat off. I never thought something as trivial as hair could have such a big impact on someones life, but it did.
Anyway, just shaved it all off, and I'm rather susprised at how great I look and how good, and relieved I feel. Ive got some razor burn, and need some sun on my dome... but it really looks good. I'm sort of scared of how my coworkers are going to react... but I'm really over hiding under a hat. Thanks you guys and your site for giving me the courage to get over myself and shave it smooth!

Welcome! Hey, if you like the look so much, you will exude confidence. If you were already that bald and not doing the combover, I'm sure the reaction will be positive from your coworkers, but if not, they can just kiss your a$$. If you're loving it, that's all that matters. If you have the ability to pick up girls, it wasn't because of your baseball cap. It's obviously your personality. Lots of girls like the sly look with confident guys. Post up a before and after pic, so we can see you.

Welcome to the world of the "Bald" and the "Beautiful". O0
As for that burn, your head will toughen up, and it will go away within a week.
Cheers, Anthony

Welcome Leathermonkey. Your dome will get used to shaving soon and then you'll have less irritation and burn. Don't worry about your co-workers - as long as you like it that's all that matters.
-
Welcome, you will love it and the feeling.
-
Thanks for all the encouragment guys. I felt great about it yesterday, but when I woke up this morning, I was full of doubt. Only my best friend has seen me so far, and said it looked good, but I am very nervous about the work week ahead and the 100 or so people that are going to be making comments. :-\

Going to work for the first time after shaving your head is the hardest part of the whole process. It's perfectly normal to feel apprehensive. The good news is it will all be over a few minutes after you walk through the door and then the worst will be behind you.

Welcome to the Forum! Confidence my new brother....confidence.
-
Welcome LM. The only advice I have is to embrace the new you. If you're comfortable and confident about it, other will be too O0

It's about like walking around for half the day with your fly undone, once you realize it, zip up, all is done and your over it. Good luck.
-
Hey Leathermonkey,
Congratulations on your decision to shave it all off. I'm sure you'll enjoy the freedom and only wish you'd done it sooner. Yes, it's a little different showing up at work for the first time, but you'll likely get lots of positive feedback.

Alright you guys.... I showed up to work today shaking in my boots.. hoping nothing too drastic would happen, and that it would be low key. I walk up and there are 4 women I know standing outside. One of them saw me and let out a loud scream. I was like :o
They bum rushed me and all started kissing the top of my head, laughing. At first I was embarrased... my face started turning red, but my head was still pretty white. Then, I realized that I just got kissed by 4 women, and I havent even clocked in yet! O0
There is something too this you guys! You were right. It was all grins the rest of the day as I watched people's reactions. I'm on day 3 now, and just shaved it again, with just your basic gillete products. I'm going to look into some of these head shaving specific products, and I'll post up a pic as soon as I can. I can see how this is addictive.

Welcome dude!
Sounds like this is something you should have done a LONG time ago...
at least you did it now! O0
Congrats and show us your newly balded mug when you get a chance!

Thanks man. One thing I had a question on. Not sure if this is the right place, but at the end of the day my head was looking pretty oily and shiney. I prefer a matte look. Is there anything you would recommend to keep the dome looking freshly washed? I saw the ad for "matte for men". Just wondering what suggestions you may have for a naturally sweaty and oily person. I've also heard baby powder. I guess I'll use that search button I just noticed... lol

Welcome dude.
I have the same problem. I use headlube matte by headblade. Then when I use the bathroom throughout the day I just wipe my head off. You can apply more of the headlube if you prefer, that seems to work just fine. Welcome bro!!
-
I buy the baby wipes from Costco, use them a couple times a day, helps with the shine, and feels clean after I use them. Also no alcohol in them.
-
Great advice koaa2! The baby wipes do the trick O0 Its been a week since I went sly, and I'm loving it. It seems silly how nervous and hung up I was. Confidence is high! Thank you guys so much for your support. I love this site :@`

leathermonkey, welcome to the SBG site, good to have you with us.
I am happy to hear you left behind the world of ballcaps and rugs covering your scalp.
It's no good to hide, and guys who do show a big lack of confidence. It's a free feeling in shaving and losing the constrictions of what many men feel is much of their defining characteristic.
Once you make the choice and shave, the freedom is overwhelming.
Many of us have uttered "why didn't I do this sooner" upon completing our headshave.
Sounds like we can chalk up another one, am I right?, lol.
Seems to me all your fears were unfounded, and now you can put your clean and free dome out there with much confidence!
As for shine, I agree with my bro's on trying Headlube Matte if you're looking to tone it down. If you're worried about sweat, try the Bald Guyz headwipes, they work well.
Keep it smooth, bro. O0
