I was reading the SNL thread and it reminded me of a skit that I did with my fraternity in college. Every year we had a thing called the Greek Olympics where a fraternity would team up with a sorority and compete against other fraternity/sorority teams. One of the events was a skit that had to include singing and dancing. At the time, our fraternity was in trouble and the sorority we had teamed up with had to beg the school to allow us to compete with them. The school reluctantly approved and being the smart asses that we were, we decided to do a skit from Animal House. We all dressed up in togas and redid the scene when Belushi is walking down the stairs and smashes the guys guitar. I played Belushi. After I smashed the guitar we went into the song Shout, where I flew off the stage and started dancing with the crowd, including the lady that had just busted us. It was good times!
I have also done some other stuff, including a musical and some short films for my friends that were in movie production courses in college.
I know there's other guys that have done some form of acting, what have you done?

I have never done any acting in the forum of Film or Television, However I have been in a few plays. I played the role in of a Roman Guard in a local production of The Technicolor Dreamcoat
-
I have done quite a bit of community theater, mostly comedy and musicals, though I had a couple of great roles in a production of Studs Terkels "American Dreams".
-
I'm "acting" like i want to be at work today. Does that count?

Nope, that would be most of our "regular roles", lol. >:D

I used to do quite a bit back in high school. My senior year, I had the lead role in both our schools play and musical productions. But that was a long time ago.....
Since then I've done a couple of things with my church's productions.

I do acting for a community production called "The Promise" it is the life history of Jesus from birth to crucifixtion. I usually play one of the "12" but havent gotten to play Judas yet. I also do alot for the vacation bible school programs. Im known around church as Scooter! My character last summer was this hickabilly guy who goes into the big city riding his scooter all over the place. So now when the kids see me in the hallways...I always here..hey mom look its Scooter!

My senior year of high school my AP Spanish teacher made us do a musical called "A Sombrero for Santa" and we had to go and perform it at the elementary schools and then at an assembly we performed for the high school... I was Santa and all I can say about that experience is to this day I still get ribbed about it, but it was fun, even though that freakin' suit was mucho caliente in June.

I'm not a very good actor, but I've been in a musical:
"The Boyfriend".... as Pierre. I had 4 lines in French and messed them all up.

I've been in loads of amatuer musical productions over the past 15 years, mainly in the chorus, but sometimes playing parts. I played Harry the Horse in Guys and Dolls, Chord Eylam in Oklahoma! Mercury in Orpheus in the Underworld, Joe the bar man in Calamity Jane, and the Rabbi's son in Fiddler on the Roof. Love treading the boards, and have made a lot of good friends doin it too. O0

In High School, we only had one play a year, but I had the lead roles my junior and senior year. My junior year, I was Cyrano in Cyrano De Bergerac and my senior year, I was Pithatarus in The Birds (our director was way too involved and insisted on doing "great" plays). I kind of wished we would have done Guys and Dolls, because I would have been a great Sky Masterson. I know all the lines from the movie.
My sophomore year, we did Titanic, and I had supporting role, but the play was horrible.
Once I graduate college and start teaching, I am hoping to get involved in some community plays and maybe see where that gets me. I had a dream of being an actor, but decided against majoring in theater because the career is nearly impossible to get into (and the balding thing IS an issue, regardless of what people think).

I started acting when I was about 11 or 12 I think. I was an extra in an outdoor drama about Billy the Kid. It was a lot of fun and we made some great friends. I continued acting through high school and got more involved backstage as well. I had a supporting role in Shakespeare's King Lear and Twelfth Night. Lead role my senior year in Cactus Flower. Those were some good times. Recently the teacher I had in high school put on an alumni show because she is retiring this year. I was unable to take part due to work, but I was there for 2 out of 3 performances. In 25 years at the same school she did 101 shows and not a single repeat. I can honestly say she helped shape the person I am today. I was very close to dropping out of high school and she refused to sign the dismissal form until I thought about it for at least one day. I had the opportunity to thank her on the last night of the shows.

Man PP..... awesome story about that teacher. One adult can influence a kid so much! Just a small gesture on her part changed your life. I gotta' say it... THAT TEACHER ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't done any acting, but have been in the "pit" playing an instrument in musicals...
-
I think I could do the acting thing and I never had an opportunity until recently and I have been kicking the idea around a bit.
We have a good sized community theater here in town that holds open auditions once in awhile and I have often thought about going and trying out. The thing is I have never done any acting (unless you count acting like a jackass on stage with a bass in my hands) and w2hat the hell is a prepared monologue?
-
Go for it Marz....you would probably be great at it. It is one of the best ways I know to meet great people (and have you ever seen unattractive woman on stage?) Experience can help but I have performed with quite a few people who were doing it for the first time and were great. A prepared monologue would be a reading of your choice to show off you ability. Pick a piece that show cases your voice and gives you a chance to display facial expressions.

Like just some piece of written work from some other movie or play?
Is there a site that has monologues that you can look at?
I just have no idea how to jump into this.

All the world is a stage etc etc etc.

Try this site out Marz and see if there is anything that suits you.
