Title: DO U wear hats/caps/or any headgear more or less...
Post by: warhawk on April 05, 2008, 04:29:39 AM
hello fellow chrome domes:  DO U wear hats/caps more or less since U went sly?  i'll start:  since i went sly, i rarely wear hats/caps/headgear.  i used 2 wear a baseball cap if it was windy or raining outside because i didn't want my hair 2 get messy.

so... how 'bout U?  do U find yourself wearing headgear more or less since "doing the deed"?  what's your story?

About the same really.   After twenty years of having to wear a hat outdoors when I was in uniform, I can't stand to have one on my head.  I certainly am not going to cover up this great looking sly dome now  ;D

LESS...i have worn a knit cap this winter...in which I never wore a hat like that...it was always baseball caps.  I go down to my basement where all my ball caps are haning and I feel like I have neglected them something terrible.  They just hang there so lonely....but I have to keep this slick noggin exposed.......sorry caps....

Same here.  I use to like wearing hats all the time.  But since going sly I never wear one anymore.  I do rock the skull cap in the winter though.

black knit cap for the harsh Saskatchewan winters !

But generally; I like having my head exposed; even when it's cold (still around 30-40 degrees here during the day; but I've put the cap away for the Spring.   I LOVE the feel of the cool air on my noggin.

I'm still getting used to being SLY in public (it's been 2 months), so the trusty ballcap (have several) still gets popped on for extended excursions out & around. I'm getting better tho as time goes by.....no cap in the Zcar while driving, no cap while pumping gas, no cap while out in the neighborhood, & (I'm pretty proud of this) no cap while shopping for groceries at the local WallyWorld - ha! Still learning the ways of SLY........

Welcome Z!! That is an immaculately cared for goatee... looks great. (R^!

I've always worn hats, ever since I can remember. Shaving my head was actually one of the best things ever because now I'm free to remove my hat whenever I want and not have to worry about having hat head/hair. But I pretty much wear a hat 90% of the time of not at work, and going sly has only made it easier

Yeah, welcome aboard Z!  O:O

Wearing hats... I'd have to say more.  In winter my noggin' gets too cold especially on windy days without a hat and in the summer I wear a hat more often so I don't get too much sun when I'm outside all day.

I have a St. Baldrick's baseball cap that I wear in nice weather just to keep sun exposure minimal. I winter I have a black brimless Stormy Kromer. It is very north woods thug!

I wear hats when its cold or raining but I take them off indoors usually.

I also wear hats just for fun, I have a pretty good collection of kangol and other fedora/stingy brim type hats. Usually wear those out at night or whatever.

If it is really hot and I am going to be in the sun all day (golfing, festivals, etc.) I wear a ball cap.

I have always worn hats though, I cant say I wear them more since I have been sly, my head not being shaved seems like a lifetime ago.

I have a wide variety of hats that i manages to put together before i was bald to combat bad hair days.  I still wear one a few times a week out of habit.

Off duty, I wear a traditional cattlemens crease cowboy hat with a 4" brim.  Resistol felts in the winter, any good straw in the summer.

Just encourage everyone to wear a good hat in the sun or at least wear sunbelt.  I had to work a natural death recently of a relatively young man who died from skin cancer that started on his temple. He had an outdoor job.  It was horrible and it was the WORST thing Ive seen as a cop.  The poor man must have been in  horrible pain in his final days.  So, please protect your head and all exposed areas. Sunblock is good but keeping direct sun off your skin is best.

I used to wear a hat everywhere.  Now I very rarely wear one, but I always have one with me.  I burn easily and very careful not protect the dome.  I have also found that I'm a lot more picky about he hats I have.  I've gone from all ball caps to beanies and boonie caps.

I wear a hat or head cover of some sort about the same.
I seem to be susceptible to heat-stroke so have to keep covered and well hydrated in the sun.  That hasn't changed from when I had hair.
I notice the chill in the air a little more now so go for something knitted in the winter.  That may be an age related thing.

Couldn't wear hats befoe Sly, it would mess up the carefully arranged and sprayed "Do", now occassionally--particularly when I'm coming or going to the gym in the morning when it's cold--in New Orleans anything less than 50 degrees--I've got a beanie, and sometimes a hat.  Now after the cold weather is over, I've got some 45 SPF to spray on before heading out for long spring/summer days in the sun, Nivea 15 SPF if an ordinary day in and out of sun, otherwise, just the non-SPF factor stuff--BaldGuyz, whatever, for the office.  Got to avoid another skin cancer.

It depends. If I'm out chaining/strapping down a load and know I'm going to be out in the sun for an extended period of time I'll wear a skullcap, hat, or ball cap  to prevent sunburn and skin cancer.

In the Winter I wear beanies and skullcaps for the cold when working outside. As I knit as a hobby all of my beanies and skullcaps are ones I make myself.

Anyone who may be interested can see a few of them I've made here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/16845929@N05/page2/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/16845929@N05/page2/)

I am currently on vacation on Maui and i have had an extreme fear of burning my noggin while prepping for and following up a dive.  So I decided to tie a do rag on and wear it during the dive so that i would not forget to put it back on.   I have a new piece of headgear that i will continue to use while diving in warm water.

Well, I no longer wear anything on my head except for the dress uniform cap for special events at work.  In the winter I alternate between 2 toques, the black uniform issued one for work and the black one off duty.  I used to wear a had all the time though cause I was too damn lazy to fix my hair, so if I didn't wear a hat I'd look like a giant red cue tip!  :*))

Any other southerners on the forum grow up calling toques/beanies toboggan caps?

That's all I ever called this type of cap until I moved out of the south.

I'm a newly sly guy so its hard to say how much I will wear hats. Since sly I wear a baseball hat on backwards that I really like. Other than that no other hats...
I will say prior to sly I always tried to wear a hat while doing an outdoor sport for fear of messing up my "do"...
That will never happen again. I want my opponent to be blinded by my  shiny dome :)

I would wear hats allllllllllll the time. Out at the bar? Hat. Playing any sport? Hat. Giving a presentation for class? Hat. I literally couldn't go anywhere without my head covered. That was when I wasn't sly though, just had it buzzed down so the mpb was clearly visible.
The first week of being sly I'd wear one alot but decided to show off the new me and wean myself away from it. And actually the other day i was thinking about it and I haven't worn a hat or even had the urge to in a couple months. And if people make bald comments, jokes or being serious, it doesn't bother me one bit anymore. I used to shutter at the word bald. Now I say it with a sense of pride.
I'm a sly bald guy!

I dont really wear hats that often. I found that those 'one size fits all' caps dont look good on a bald head so I tossed mine and bought a couple nice fitted caps for when I am in the field or somethin. In the winter I wear beanies and this cool spandex type skully, it is stretchy and feels great.

I always wear a hat to combat getting sunburned and to help prevent premature aging from the suns rays.  I also wear an SPF 15 moisturizer (for daily use) and SPF 45 sunblock when I'm outside for a long time.  Oh yeah, I also don't want to have sun spots.  They look horrible, especially on a bald head lol.  I figure, I am young, and if I take these precautions, I can be sexy when I'm old like you guys.  ;)

I don't wear caps or hats anymore (occasionally a stocking cap if it's really cold).  I get a lot of grief from family and friends about it, especially since skin cancer runs in the family, but I just can't stand the way it feels since going sly (never been a big hat wearer, anyway).  So I just use sunscreen if I'm going to be outside any noticeable period of time.

I'm with most of you - I've never been a ball cap/hat wearer - I just hate the feeling of one on my head - BUT - In Missouri winters, I do wear a "beanie" to keep the noggin warm. Don't wanna freeze what little mind I have left :P

After much initial hesitation and fear, I finally took the plunge... I have begun wearing my headgear in public! In a matter of only a few days, I have gone from fearing wearing my headgear in public to ENJOYING it! I hope my story encourages others to overcome any fear they may have of wearing their headgear in public.

I often wore my Colts ball cap when going out. Partly to support my team, partly because my hair was boring. I can't imagine not wearing my Colts cap on game day, and I know I'll have it handy when I know I'll have long exposure to the Sun. But other than that, I think I'll only wear a hat to stay warm when walking to work in the winter.

Which leads me to a questions: I have a few regular knit caps for the winter time, but they are kind of porous, and I don't know if they'll be as warm as I'd like, now that I'm Sly. Anyone have any suggestions on good caps to keep the noggin warm in winter? Will normal cotton caps work, or is their some other fabric that you guys think has better insulation?

I recently purchased a HB Skully (http://www.headblade.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=HB&Product_Code=6000&Category_Code=hats) (https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.headblade.com%2FMerchant2%2Fgraphics%2F00000001%2Fwhite_skully.jpg&hash=c81b6d8d5a6565c8a472717f12498990e2bd1cb6) and wear it nearly every night as the temps are dropping quickly overnight here in Northern California.

I used to ALWAYS wear a cap,, just because my hair was always messed up. I would have to put on my hard hat for climbing, take it off and hair looked like crap. I rarely wear a hat now, I did buy a Under Armor skull cap to wear under my hardhat. I will have to be careful next summer though.

I've always hated hats and hate them even more now.  Only wear a beanie when it is  cold out (below 25F), or plowing the driveway when it's snowing.

Summer time sunscreen is substituted for the lotion to keep the dome happy.

The only time I wear a cover is when I'm in uniform... well, and sometimes when I'm like fishing or playing baseball, but don't forget the sunblock, I went without once and only once because I burnt my head really really bad.

I've started bringing a knit beanie w/ me when I travel because the hotel rooms many times have a/c that is hard to adjust right and I get cold in bed--the beanie works great sort of like a security blanket.

I do the same thing bro. In the winter we don't like it warm when sleeping also and turn the heat off at night in the bedroom. The noggin gets awfully cold if I don't have that beanie on... O0

I pretty much never wear caps now.  Two great things about being sly:
No messed up hair when it's windy (and it gets very windy this time of year in Oklahoma)
No hat hair

If it's cold I'll of course wear a beanie, but if I'm gonna only be outside for alittle while I love that fresh cold feeling.  It's great in the morning coupled with a cup of Joe, wakes you up and gets you ready to face the day!

It's my unusually large head (ala So I Married an Axe Murderer) that keeps me from wearing hats more often, but I'll wear a hat when I skate to keep the sun out of my eyes (found some XLs for my huge head) and when it's really cold, I'll wear a beanie.

ill occasionally wear "dressier" kangol hats when i want to look exceptionally nice at times, like in my previous avatar.

most the time tho (except winter) i wear sunglasses either on the top of my head or on my eyes.

I tend to wear no hats now...even if I didnt have time to shave for some reason, very rare, cause then they just stick to my head.

Before I would wear hats all the time. I have baseball hats, berets, top hats, dress hats, and more bandanas that I can count. But now without any hair I would much rather just shine in peace and not try to cover it up.

I usually wear a hat in winter (although knitted hats tend to slide right off after a shave).

In summer, I wear a ball cap because I am one of those skin types that just burn/peel, burn/peel, etc.

I've hit my head a few times here and there... it always HURTS and leaves a mark. I don't like the idea of dings on my dome. (One particularly nasty head scrape left a scar that lasted for years). So now, I always wear protection outdoors!

My first choice always is to just show off my bald dome with no covering.  But I wear a beanie in the winter when its friggin cold out which pretty often in Boston.

I also wear a ball cap when I'm outdoors for more than 30 minutes at a time.  Like to wear the cap when I'm driving, too, esp if I'm driving into the sun.

Also, I have one of those Australian jobbies that you can pack any way you want and it looks good as new when you take it out.  Makes me look like Indiana Jones.

Just in case you haven't gotten the message, I'm a veteran of six skin cancers, two on my head and four elsewhere, forearm, shoulder , back and leg.  I just had a biopsy this week about a growth in the scar on my head that is most probably not cancer but my skin doctor for nearly twenty years thought it best to check it out.  You don't need "genetics" for skin cancers, and they are by in large totally cureable provided they are caught in time, the melanoma is the bad one, not as much time can elapse before they can become one of the most deadly and painful of the skin cancers.  Wear sunscreen--all the time, and high spf when you're out in the summer, high like 70!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It can be fun though, just this afternoon, the wife, famous for her anti-sly position, has now taken to nicely remind me about protecting the dome.  So, before we head out looking for some new chairs for the house, I spray down w/ some 70spf Neutrogena--it leaves a totally blinding shine.  We're walking into the first store, quote the wife, "Don't you have a Kleenex or something to wipe your head?"  "No," I said, "this is the sunscreen!"  Silence, end of subject, I was a beacon of light in the stores, I mean blinding shine. LMFAO. >:D

I wear beanies in the winter and baseball caps when ever I feel like it, which is not to often any more. I like to feel the breeze accross my head.

Bumping an old thread, but oh well.

I used to always wear ball caps, any situation where i could i would: out running errands, at work, out and about, always had to have a hat on, couldn't stand to be without one, my adult security blanket i suppose.  I actually realized i was going bald on an occasion that i had to go hat-less.  It was my father's funeral so a hat obviously wasn't appropriate and when my aunt, my father's sister, saw me without a hat (a rarity at that time) she said, "you're getting thin up there."  Nice time to find out you're going bald! @K*

Since i have gone sly, i've only worn a hat when i've been lazy and had stubble that i was self conscious about and as its getting close to winter now i enjoy the warmth of a beanie.  Shaving my head has made me much more confident; hats, minus knits, feel really weird now that i'm sly.

I wear a baseball cap or fleece pullover most of the time.
I have to say it’s more to keep sweat from falling in my eyes than anything else.
OK, also it’s a security blanket too.
But after a cold Guinness I tend to go slick.
That’s my story I’m in sticking with that.

Aloha all Slys,

I too stopped wearing most baseball hats after becoming sly but I've found a great hat made famous by a black actor- not Lou Gossett Jr., but another well-known actor from the same era. The name of the hat is KANGOL, designed in Britain, made in China. I always wear mine with the little embroidered kangaroo with baby in pouch facing forward and the small bill to the back. They are available in a few colors, either wool of another lighter fabric which I haven't bought yet. They are $40 at Nordstroms but you can buy online and pay $35 plus shipping. Nordstroms told me they would order any of them and not charge shipping. Let me know what you think-I'll probably be ordering a lighter weight one for summer and will let you know waht I think.

Never. even with a horseshoe cut I never used a cap.  Now that I'm bald, and even with a flat back of the head that I'm concious of I wouldn't evern think about covering a bald head.  When I see a guy with shaved sides and wearing a cap, for the most part I politely express my displeasure with someone shaving his head and then covering it up.  Why shave your head if your going to cover it up?

Never wear a hat. I spend my time exfoliating, shaving with and then against the grain then moisturising my head every day, why put in all that work then hide it? I love my bald dome and I love showing it off.

I have found that since going sly, I can longer stand the feel of a hat on my head - it just feels weird now.
Same here--I wasn't a big hat fan anyway, but now I can feel the stitching and the ridges, and it isn't pleasant. I have a huge head anyway, and even 7 7/8 hats are tight and generally pretty uncomfortable and leave a line around my head.   I wore a hat or my Under Armor skull cap for about five days at the gym after the doctor froze my precancerous lesions off, partly bc of the look and also because people could think I had sores that could contaminate the equipment.  I do wear the beanie if I'm on a site visit where they hand you a safety helmet--I don't know whose head was in it last and the helmets can have some pretty funky looking webbing inside :P.  The beanie keeps me from having that touch my scalp directly.

Yeah, it really does.  I had to wear something for the first 5-6 days after the Great Freeze Off, but I'm not comfortable wearing even a baseball cap or beanie--just like it free and easy.  But, lots of SPF 50-70 soaked in then buffed off-- feels great now that spring seems to be here.
Every thing is cool, I hope, w/ your renewed sly status--the wife is adapting as you are now comfortable I hope.

What brand sunscreen do you use that is in the 50-70 range? I'll probably need something at about that level.

Exactly. I was kind of hoping for spring the last couple of days, but today and tomorrow, winter is back for (hopefully) one last gasp. Need a cap for that.  Also, since I have kind of sensitive eyes, I like baseball caps in the blinding sun to give me a bit of shade.

The funny thing is, if I don't shave my head, or at least buzz it pretty close, baseball caps, and many hats, don't fit me. Now that I'm sly, it works for me.

Banana Boat 50spf
Neutrogena 70spf

I'm just about out of both so I have to go looking for something soon.  I may try something new, but in that range--I like to have both levels if possible.

I hate wearing hats, always have. They seem to give a pressure and give me a headache. In the summer is always use sunblock, but if out for very long I will wear a hat. And in the winter I need one for the cold. But at first chance I take it off so I can show off my sly head!

I have plenty of baseball caps hanging on the wall.  I guess I really don't have much use for them.  Now that I'm bald, why cover it up.  I just rather show it off and enjoy the comfort and freedom of not having to cover up a beautiful bald head.

I wear a Greek fisherman's cap when it's cold, a do rag when it's hot. In hot weather, I'll expose the dome once in a while so I don't get the two-tone look.

I like hats.  When I have hair, my hat size is a 7 7/8 -  8 (depending on the hat) and it's tough finding something in that size.
Sly, I drop a size or two ( I have very thick hair) and can find hats that fit. However most of the hats I like don't feel right when I'm sly. So it's mostly ball caps.

I live in Florida and sometimes a hat is easier to remember or throw in the car when you need it than sunscreen. I'm always outside and I'm Irish so my head burns quick. That's about the only time I wear a hat. Before I shaved my dome I would wear hats more often.

I've got a shelf full of ball caps, including a few that achieved "old friend" status back in the day.....  But, since I've gone sly, only when it's been raining.  In the bitter cold I've actually pulled on a knit winter hat, something I would rarely do before.. I never knew how things would look when it came off.  So, in general, far less. And when I do, only for a purpose.

I have always loved hats and caps. Even when I was 18 and had a fullset of hair I would wear beanies and hats.
I still do. I find baseball caps do look a bit odd on sly heads though. So recently, I've been wearing beanies (especially as it's been freezing here) and the grandad flat cap.

What I love though is.. No longer am I wearing a hat to hide! I am wearing a hat because I feel like I want to wear one or I think it looks well with the clothes I am wearing that day. Or for the more practical reasons of it being Cold outside or if it's warm to protect me from the Sun.

Sometimes it's a backwards cap, sometimes a bandana. It's always been sometimes I wear it, sometimes I don't even when I had hair. At work though, it's usually to protect my head from irritants (sawdust, fiberglass, metal shavings etc..).

In the winter though, I almost always have my tuque on to keep my brains warm.

I shaved my head for the first time ever this weekend.  I do have a full head, but I shaved for a charity.  I'll tell you - it's freakin great!  But today it rained and I did not have a coat or hat... that rain was cold!  Never even thought about it before.  Anyway, I'll have a hat with me in my work bag from now on!  (Also using that Jerkins glow stuff to help blend the white with the whiter on my head, and was afraid the rain might make it run and cause tan streaks down my face!)

Well, since 22 hours ago I had hair, I couldn't tell ya. BUt I LOVE hats. I have a ton of ball caps - and each of them are stretch fit or fitted, I don't like ball caps with adjustable straps/velcro/snaps. Kinda glad about that now, I can wear one backwards and wont' have a bald window. I also have a few great hats called AZ shady hats. www.azshadyhats.com which are made in Wikenberg, AZ about 30 miles from me. I LOVE that company and their hats. their mottos is if the hat wears out before your head does, we will replace the hat. they are 98% UV protective and give a portion of their sales to skin cancer charities. (I DONT WORK FOR THEM) but love them. I have a mesh had to wear in the pool and a nice one for nights out. I imagine I will be wearing a lot more now. They do fit a little looser but I have replaceable sweat bands that can size it down 1/4 - 1/2. If you like hats, check them out. tell them Gimpy sent ya and they might give you a discount.

Bumping an old thread.
...I wanna start wearing trilby hats, but I'm not confident enough to pull it off.

I've always loved hats, but I naturally have thick wavy hair (I'm recently bald by choice). I used to wear ball caps while doing physical labor to shade the sun and absorb the sweat.  But otherwise, I always wanted to wear something like a trilby or short-brim fedora.  The problem was the messed up hair as a result of wearing a hat.  Now that I'm "sly", I'm looking forward to buying one of these (pic below).  I think the bald look with a hat like this is cool.  Of course I would take it off when I enter a building.

(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwil.imageg.net%2Fgraphics%2Fproduct_images%2FpG01-6654835v380a.jpg&hash=3aaaa35e22ec1b00ae5c660296f4d206a8aa06d6)

Besides, Bruce Willis pulls it off okay:

It depends on the day for me I guess. I have a couple of cabbie hats (the only type I really like/look good in) that I wear on and off. If I'm going out in the evening, and I want to dress up my appearance a bit I'll wear one. I'm bald and proud of it, but when it feels like a hat occasion, I'll wear one!

The only other time I might wear one is to cover the stubble if I've been super lazy and haven't shaved in a few days.

<Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I saw no reason to start this over from scratch.>

Well I don't collect Fedoras just to leave them sitting around the house.  I've always been a hat guy and because of it even before my hairline started receding people were assuming that I was going bald, I realized that I was starting to have an issue when I was becoming reluctant to take my hat off for any reason. At least now it's clearly just for style as people can see that I have nothing to actually hide.

Funny thing is that when I still had hair I'd have to often hold my hat on when it got really windy, now I've found that the slightest stubble on my scalp grabs the inside of the hat like velcro and keeps it from flying off.

When at weekend drill, always wore a hat with the uniform....outside of that, I wear a boonie cap from deployment when doing yard work, and for fun, I wear one of my caps from my personalized collection (see pics below), when wearing one of my Starter outfits. For some reason, I cannot wear a cap while bowling because 1. the brim gets in the way of me seeing my target, and 2. there are usually plenty of other sly guys there not afraid to let their light shine, so why should I be? On a side note, I have about 18 of these caps in various colors but not all are monogrammed as shown below, once in a while I like to wear my hat without my "head license plate". I hardly wear adjustable caps since going sly, and even more less since one of our brothers mentioned getting sunburn and a half-moon on the back of his head in another thread.

As for me, in the summer I don't wear hats much, unless of course I'm going to be outdoors for an extended period of time. However, in these Chicago winters, I wear beanies/knit hats every day. I've never really liked wearing ball caps, for some strange reason...  :/O

I work outdoors so I have cap on most of the time anyways. The thing I have started living in though is beanies (rarely wore one prior to going sly), being winter in Oz at the moment it gets quite cold and pretty much wear one whenever I leave the house. If it is a nice sunny day though I try to let my sly shine though.  Can't wait until the warmer months!

I have always been a hat person and have quite a collection.  I like showing off the dome so I find that I am wearing them less.  I only put a hat on when I'm going to be in the sun for a long period or when I'm with someone who simply cannot stand looking at my bald head.

Since going Sly I totally wear hats less. I used to wear a baseball hat on weekends when out and about. Maybe part of it is I want to show off my new look and don't want to cover it up. I wear sunscreen and will only wear a cap if I am working outside for an extended time. So my vote is definitely less now that I am Sly and BBC.

I've never been a hat person. I don't really like the way I look in them and I've never been comfortable wearing one.

There's one reason why I don't wear hats and that is because I LOVE MY BALD HEAD!

I don't wear a hat most of the time, unless I am at work.  I have to wear a hard hat all of the time so that is about the extent of my headgear.

I've always been a baseball hat kinda guy, I have a pretty decent collection. Sometimes I wear one sometimes I don't, it depends on how I'm feeling. I used to wear a hat all the time when it was sunny just to cover it up but I'm getting better at using sunblock. I just hate how it makes my scalp feel after wearing it for a day as I have a tendency to get an oily scalp very quickly.

Most of the time I don't wear anything. During the winter I wear a beanie outside, and during summer I have a square scarf with me most of the time, which I tie as a bandana around my head when the sun is shining bright.

I was thinking about getting a cowboy hat. I really like the laid-back style of a denim shirt and an old western cowboy hat. But then again, it's not that easy to put away a hat that large.

I always wear a Panama hat in the summer sun. Not only do the girls like bald, they love men in Panama hats.

When I'm working I like skull caps, they keep the sweat out of my eyes and don't interfere with my glasses or hearing protection.

I recently purchased a HB Skully (http://www.headblade.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=HB&Product_Code=6000&Category_Code=hats) (https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.headblade.com%2FMerchant2%2Fgraphics%2F00000001%2Fwhite_skully.jpg&hash=c81b6d8d5a6565c8a472717f12498990e2bd1cb6) and wear it nearly every night as the temps are dropping quickly overnight here in Northern California.

But I thank you Bob for the link because I think I will need a thicker one as winter creeps upon us. O0

Does the woman come free??

I have to say that Im a hat fan (judging by the photo!) caps, beanies, fedora type ones...thing is, people keep wanting to try them on!

I need to stop wearing them as much as it has become a habit now. I also need to get colour to my head!

I like the idea of wearing a hat and beanies, and I would love to but to be perfectly honest, any head wear really does not suit me at all.  So I never wear one in public.  However we have endured a rather cold winter this year which saw me wear my beanie on many days around the house.

When I'm gonna be out in the sun I'll sport a fitted or when out beating up the bike trails I'm sporting my good 'ol desert boonie. When it's cold, it's the beanie.

I wore hats when I played baseball earlier in life, and then stopped for a long time. When my hair started majorly thinning in college, it's when I turned to hats. I became attached to them, almost afraid to take them off. My friends/roommates knew it, too. It's the ONE thing that would stop me from getting a girl and they knew it.

Hats were my way of hiding my hair problems to the world. I would wear a hat ALWAYS. Wouldn't go a second without it...only when I slept, and even then, I'd have covers over my head. It was THAT BAD...

Now...as for hats, I still own a couple, but wear them rarely. If I go to a Yankee game, I'll wear one, if it's super cold/sunny out, I'll wear one, but not for long. I am far more confident without one, rather than with one.

Although I shaved my head for YEARS, I still wore a hat, because it gave the illusion that I had hair. I was afraid girls wouldn't like me, etc etc. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have never worn a hat. Ever.

I'm a fan of hats and hoods in general, somewhat because I'm shy and like to stay low-profile, and somewhat because I have fair skin that burns easily.  Less than 30 minutes in direct sunlight and I begin to turn tomato.

I like plain ball caps that allow me to go without sunscreen on the dome.  It saves me a little money and that kinda slimy initial feeling after rubbing it in.  Probably the biggest downside of being sly that I've found is needing to protect against sunburn on the dome.  Which ain't so bad, all things considered!  ;D

I will update my response to this thread since I was living in Norther California when I responded last.

Since moving to Wisconsin, I find that I can't go outside without a toque in the winter time. So much so, that I taught myself how to knit last December and have since made several toques for myself in preparation of this upcoming winter.

Any other time, I like to let my gleaming dome of chrome shine in the sun with only a generous coating of SPF 50 on that bad boy. ;D

Wait, I think you're talking about something else.  :*))

I've always hated headgear, but I will cover up when I'm going to be out in the sun for extended periods of time and in the winter to keep my bald head from getting frostbit.

I live in south Texas, so during the summer, even when I had hair, I have a camo bushman's hat I'd wear when at the beach, on the river, or out and about, etc. Got sunburn once through my hair.

Depends on the mood wear, ball caps, hats, sometime go for nothing.  Always have something in my car in case a hail storm comes up .  When riding my Harley I always carried a helmet along , as those hail stones on the mellon hurt :o  a person loses alot of heat out of there head so should in colder weather wear something good and warm .

I have wore a cowboy since I was a little kid, but they just don't fit the same or stay on well being sly!  Especially in the Kansas wind.  I have experimented with about every hat I could find but just can't find anything that's comfortable.  With my job, I'm outside 10-14 hours/day in the blazing sun so need something for at least part of the day.  Still on the hunt for that special hat that comfortable and stays on when the wind picks up!

Used to wear a Red Sox cap all the time with a full head of hair. Now that I've gone sly, I don't want to wear it at all - am obsessed with showing off smooth head and it has nothing to do with the Red Sox decline lol. Sox fans never give up.
