Title: Sleeping hours
Post by: Timmay on March 27, 2008, 09:23:27 AM
hey all...good day.  Hey just wanted to ask everyone about their sleep patterns.  Seems that if I get more than 5-6 hours of sleep...I feel like crap the rest of the day.  I can work well on about 6 hours of sleep.  I usually hit the bed around midnight -1am  and up by 630-7.  I just cant seem to go to bed any earlier than that.  If I do it just seems like I just lay there and toss and turn.  So how well do you function with the amount of hours you sleep...........

Timmmayyyy!

It's 7 hours for me.  Any more or any less and I'm just not with it.

I'm an early person, so I'm usually in bed by the time the 10 pm news goes off.  And then it's up at around 5 am.

Same here - I'm good to go with 6 hours sleep.  Anything more and I'm wiping away the cob webs all day.  In bed by 12 - 1 and up by 6.

6-7 hours a night is my usual.   Segment of 60 Minutes last week had sleep experts insisting that all humans need between 7-8 hours a day though or problems begin.  Inability to concentrate well,  tendency to make mistakes, irritability, weight gain, etc.   Claimed that Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, Exxon=Valez, and Staten Island Ferry accidents all due to lack of proper sleep.

I agree with that, the stress from a job that requires so much travel made it almost impossible to even get to sleep...It wore on me and effected my job performance to the point where I had to use a sleep aid..

I'm out by 11:00, up at 7:00 during the week.  I try sleeping in on weekends, but my internal alarm clock goes off and I'm up.

6-7 hours during the week.  A little more on the weekend.  I've never been able to sleep late, no matter how late I go to sleep.

Having a 10 month old, Sleep is a commoditity. I will usually crash around 1am and I am up by 7-730. I used to work shifts at work but now I only do 1 shift at work ,9-530.

I have always been able to function on minimal sleep.

I work 330-midnight, so I usually hit the sack anywhere between 2am and 4am, and wake up between 10 and 12 (typical 6-8 hours.  This week, I've been working 2 jobs, so I'm up at 745-815am, be at work at 10am, off at 3, start 2nd job and 330, work until midnight, then crashing out at about 2am, back up and 745-815am, and so on.....

I'd say I get somewhere around 5 or 6 a night.  If I get anymore than that I actually feel worse than if I only get a few hours of sleep.  When I worked at my last job I had to be in there at 6am.  I'm also a night owl and usually can't fall asleep until about midnight or 1am.  So I would have to be up at least by 5am to get into work.  I did that for about 8 years.  I think that stuck with me.

I usually get about 7 hours, give or take a half. I work second shift, and when I get home from work I'm still wide awake for about an hour or so.
I have to be up at seven to drive my daughter to school, so I'm up from then on.
I always was an early bird, and I love the morning. I think I mentioned this in another post.

Sadly, my previous career went bust.  Strangely enough, creditors continue to send bills even when they KNOW you're unemployed.  Anyways, I had to take a security job on the frickin' graveyard shift, 9 - 5 a.m., 5 days a week.  I've never slept good during the day.  However, someone gave my son a sleep mask which he never used.  He passed it on to me and now I almost sleep a regular 8 hours even during the day.

Being a college student, I obviously get very little.  During the week, I am up until 4:30-5.  According to Jim is on at 4:30 every weeknight (weekmorning?) and that puts me right to sleep.  Then, I have to get up at around 7-8 to go to class.  Starting in a few days, I might have to go to bed an hour earlier because I will have to get up at 6 in order to observe at a high school.

So, my average is about 2-4 hours of sleep during the week, then I definitely catch up on the weekends and get about 6 or 7.
