Title: Going to Pro Barber?
Post by: Robmeister on December 19, 2006, 06:59:42 AM
In addition to David's story about the two chicks who went to the barber and got their heads shaved, I have seen very little posted about going to a barber for the plate shave.

I realize it can be done effectively from home....but I have nonetheless considered going to a barber for my first head shave.  Has any of you ever had the melon shaved by a barber?.....or have you known someone who has?  I read that it can be pretty expensive.  Someone here mentioned $80.00 or so

Fill me in, gentlemen

I've been to a pro barber to get my head shaved.  It was at the Art of Shaving store and barber spa in midtown Manhattan.  It cost $35 and was a fun experience.  They shaved my head with a straight razor.

I want to try a barber head shave too.  I suspect that it would be closer than one I could do at home

Yes, twice.   Once in Houston and once in Katy.   The one in houston used a regular disposable razor and shave cream.   It was relaxing and she did an awesome job.  Cost 15 bucks.  However, the 2nd time I went to one in katy where they used the straight edge, two days before thanksgiving.   Ended up with more red spots/bumps than I could imagine.   I was pissed, and wished I could have my 18 bucks back.

I tried the disposable razor technique the first couple of weeks, but some spots were annoying and I don't have good coordination as it is.   So I invested 95 bucks in a nice norelco shaver that is wet/dry and can work with my gel.

Haven't had problems with nicks and serious burn/bumps since.

Its a nice  treat every now and again  , to get my head shaved  by a pro and the result is amazing  . Just be careful that they are going to wet shave you . One guy I went to once dry shaved  me , never again .
