Title: Before you shave your head tips
Post by: Maxim DeWintre on March 12, 2008, 10:51:59 PM
Before you shave your head for the first time consider the consiquences.
1.  It takes longer to get ready in the morning.
2.  Use barber clippers to a fine burr.
3.  Use a good electric razor to prevent nicks.
4.  To avoid acne and bumps use a real hot towel
     A.  The acne for me was in the back of the neck area but keeping a hot towel clears it up in a few weeks.
5.  Before Shaving for the first time wear a "burr" to let the sun tan your head to match your neck this will take about two months.
6.  It's true a shaved head is cooler in the summer but when you sweat it runs right into your eyes.
7.  Its a safer method then trying to dye your grey hair or spending money for a hair transplant.
8.  You can always wear a cap or hat. It's no big deal.
9. Most important tip is getting the tan unless you like the two tone effect. Get the burr off first for two months.

Maxim, welcome to Sly Bald Guys.  Thanks for posting up your tips!

I have to say that I slightly disagree with you on a few points.

1. Once you get the hang of it head shaving shouldn't take you longer in the morning.
3. Though using an electric will prevent nicks, many of us use a razor with very little nicks if any.
5. Shaving to a burr to get a tan will only help if you already have significant MPB.  Guys with a full head of hair will need to shave all the way.
7.  This is VERY true!

Longer than what?  Certainly not longer than washing, combing, gelling, drying and styling a lot of hair!  Takes me about 10 minutes to shave my  head.  No biggie.  Most of us wouldn't be doing it if it were a tedious chore.

Hey Fellas,

I had a quick question.

When I shave my head going against the grain from my neck up, I start to develop pimples. How could I reduce the pimples, but still have a smooth shave?

Thank you for any suggestions.

Have you tried shaving WITH the grain first, and then against it?

It's also possible that you are putting TOO much pressure on the blade

True zits or shave rash?
For shaving rash I agree with Paul.  I find that you are likely to irritate the skin more going against the grain, so take it easy.  Also make sure your blade is fresh.  A blunt blade will require more pressure and more passes to get the same result so causes more irritation.

If its real spots you get, try a wash with an anti-bacterial scrub after shaving.
Hot water and shaving can open up your pores and leave you open to infection.  A rinse with cold water is said to close up the pores and protect a bit against it.
