Never been fly fishing myself. Growing up, we always went either lake or river fishing. The Maumee River was a muddy fast moving river. Always got great Walleye,Bluegill,Perch,Catfish, etc.

I want to learn how to fly fish.  I always have visions of that movie A River Runs thru it.  I usually either pond/lake fish and sometimes I just like going because it is quiet and I just enjoy being outside.  One time I went fishing, was gone for 2-3 hours...dont think I took my line out of the water once...just enjoyed nature.

I enjoy fly-fishing on the Erie tribs for steelhead. Can't wait for the snow to go away so I can get back up there. I also fly-fish for bass on local lakes. Fly-fishing is an art, that takes a while to learn and a lot of patience.

I also tie my own flys. I have a few dollars invested in the materials and try to tie something each day. When the weather warms up I will spend more time on the water then at my desk.

I tie my favorite flys, it is another art form and can be an expensive one also...But there is nothing like catching a fish on a fly you tied..

As far as the casting goes, time and patience is good advice indeed, but once you catch a nice fish on a 4 weight fly rod, you will be hooked forever..

The Irony of this site is amazing at times.

the past week or so I have been reading up on fly fishing and I am hoping to get into it this year. I have fished my whole life but I have never been fly fishing. There are so many lakes and rivers up here I figure I should learn the best way to take advantage of them.

Any good sites, tips general beginner information would be a tremendous help... I am a total noob!

It takes awhile to learn the equipment like different types of line you need, the different knots to use, what flys work where, learning how to cast.

There are so many sites out there you can feel overwhelmed, so I will start with a couple here...

and if you want to get overwhelmed, I have 127 links bookmarked on del.icio.us for flyfishing

I grew up in one of the best fly fishing places south of Canada, so I was told, and never once went fly fishing.  Though, I did take advantage of the fruits of my friend's labor who did fly fish...yummy!

I know this place is famous for it's guides and knowledge - http://theflyshop.com/
