Maybe I am just weird, but I was reading the post about nipple hair and getting rid of body hair and I just have to cringe! I am not being critical of those who want to rid them selves of body hair.
But I was wondering if there are any guys here who actually LIKE the fact that they are hairy. I for one like my body hair. I figure that God is letting my head hair fall out but wanted me to have a hairy body including back hair.
While I am not the wall to wall carpet kind of hairy, I am hairier than most. I just kind of think that it is just a natural component to being a balding, bearded guy and that my hormones and genetics have dicitated as such. I am sure that most of you at the gym or at the beach have seen many MPB men with various degrees of chest, back, shoulder, arm and leg hair. So I have always associated bald with often being hairy.
So for me, I enjoy the contrast between my sly dome and my hairy face and body! Anyone else feel the same?
Or is this "get rid of hair" mentality because of signifigant others, spouses, etc?
Don't get me wrong, yesterday, when I was at the gym I saw one of the trainers who was sly. But he also looked like he didn't have any body hair. He was a still a manly looking dude. It worked for him. Plus I would not try to pick a fight with him!

No.
-
As I have said before, it's only fair that if you have a hairy body, you deserve to have your hair fall out. I unfortunately don't fall into that category. Mother Nature can be cruel.
-
I got quite a hairy back and chest, my Wife loves it. So if its good enought for her its good enought for me lol.
-
Marsh,quite a strange post mate.
I thank God above that I have minimal body hair.A bit on the breastbone and stomach and that is it.

Yeah, it was strange. But I can't imagine the pain of body hair removal either. Plus shaving the dome is pretty easy. But for those of us with plenty of body hair, shaving the body would be burdensome. But the most important thing is to be happy with yourself. So for those who have little body hair or like to shave it, then you need to do what you feel is best for your body image and your happiness. I am glad that I don't feel the need to improve in terms of that area.
But if you were to ask me about my weight, well that is another thing. However I WILL NOT be asking for the help of a curly hair guy in "red and whites". That is much too scary!
:o Timmay....you out there?
-
Hell, yeah! I'm furry and proud of it.
-
I'm fairly hairy and it's cool to me.
Just happy with who I am........
-
Heck just shave it all off ....all the way down to the NADS! LOL

Personally, I like a compromise. Normally, I would have close to 3 inches of hair length, arms, legs, chest, etc. So I trim it down using the #2 guard on my home barber kit. Still hairy, just not a Sasquatch and I get another optical inch on my amigo Pedro. However, the other day I did try taking it all off though and felt kinda naked and the wife didn't care for it either. But it'll be back before summer, so no worries.
-
...and I get another optical inch on my amigo Pedro.
Clever Johnny..... very clever.......
-
I dont mind having body hair but if there was a reasonable way to permanently remove it, I would, I prefer to have no body hair..
-
Hairy most of time... but once in a while like to go smooth
-
No way man...would love not to have to deal with the moderate amount I 've got...
would erase the need to "manscape"..
as always the less hair (or no hair) the better! O:O
-
No hair is best
-
Below the neck, I am very thick all over. There isn't an inch of my body that doesn't have hair. I would prefer not to be so hairy.
But it's just like wearing glasses. I started wearing glasses when I was 6 years old. I put them on in the morning and never give it a second thought. I never give much thought to being hairy, and it doesn't bother me. Much. Except I almost need two towels after a shower.
-
I'm only moderately hairy, but don't give it a thought. Certainly wouldnt go to the trouble of removing it. 8)
-
Would rather be smooth...unfortunately the only place on my body that does not grow hair that well is my head!! :'(
-

Same here. It's also very patchy growth on my arms and back. Makes me look like a spotted dog.
-
Not hairy at all here. Just a little patch on my chest and the other obvious places. My wife says she likes my three chest hairs.
I have a friend that has his back waxed like once a month or something like that.
-
I don't mind having a hairy body, it's the hairy back that I hate. I get it waxed. The rest I occasionally trim but I am not obsessed about it...
-
I'm pretty hairy all over. When in college, because of hairy chest and then pretty muscular physique, I won the Mr. Chest contest during Greek Week. During summer months I take the #2 and buzz the chest and back to keep it uniform and it is a little cooler (body heat wise). It's just another natural thing to deal with that I never give a second thought until someone asks. I, quite often, think I was born during the wrong century. My wife frequently tells me I was probably a "Mountain Man" in a previous life. I love COLD weather and the body hair is, I guess, some extra insulation. A, somewhat unusual, characteristic of my chest and back hair is that it's very straight and can be combed. The gray hair on my chest can actually be styled to look like wings, or so I've been told. Never had any of the Lay Day's complain over the years. It helps to keep em warm.
It's the ear and nose hair I don't like. I keep those clipped, shaved to bareness.
I use to work for this guy who had nose hair so long I thought it was a mustache, and I've always considered that pretty gross.
-
I'm pretty much hairy, but never give it a thought
-
I absolutely hate being hairy-bodied.
-
I'm hairy bodied except for my back, thank God.I'd rather be hairy bodied.I don't like a smooth body on a man as it seems so effeminate.Hairy is more macho.
-
I like hairy bodies.I shave only my head, face(except the moustache of course) and the unmetionables.Thats all.
Otherwise, genetics has bestowed quite a bit of hair.I cannot imagine shaving ones complete body all the time.Yuk.

-
I'm pretty hairy and don't have a problem with it at all. Every woman I have ever dated liked it and that's good enough for me. ^-^
-
Thank God this post doesn't contain pics....I was a little worried reading through this at the office..haha!! I a hairy SOB..except the my dome. That's ok with me. I would rather not be but it doesn't bother me enought to do anything about it. My wife likes it also so that's a bonus!
-
I just hate it when hair grows in places it shouldnt LOL
-
OH MY GAWD.. FRIGGING HIGH MAINTENANCE MEN!!! Who would have thunk it!
I dig hairy dudes. (https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fbestsmileys.com%2Fcheering%2F4.gif&hash=6933e2b7fcd69bc906c02bdbd88252fab3be6c55)

agree 100%.
-
I dont love being hairy bodied but I dont hate it either. I have hair all over, my wife loves it, it looks odd when we go to the beach and stuff because I am all hairy with a bald head.
-
Hair sucks
-
I'm pretty much the hairiest man alive... people are amazed at the chest hair that pokes out of my shirt at work... I always get asked why I have so much body hair and yet shave my head? I tell them mother nature is cruel like that I guess. Honestly I'd rather not be so hairy but would I shave it all off? No, because for one it would take me about a month to shave my chest, arms, back, legs, etc. and who has that much time. Besides, I deal with enough razor burn on my neck and back of my head that I couldn't deal with it anywhere else. I'd like to get some tatts too but not sure how I feel about paying so much money for something that will be covered right back up in 2 days.
-
I have some insight to all you guys who have hairy bodies. Being that I work in the funeral home business....I have observed....that as you get older...not only do you start to loose your hair on your head...but you start to loose your hair in other places too.....So maybe growing older...isnt all that bad...right?? LOL
-
I do not enjoy being hairy backed! I don't mind my chest, but everywhere else it's too much for me.
It's a cruel joke that we lose it on our heads and gain it everywhere else we don't want it. >:(

Has anybody here ever had their chest or back waxed? I have a little back hair; I don't think it would be too painful to have it waxed. The chest is another matter, entirely. I can't get that scene from "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" out of my mind. Of course, in real life they would probably trim the hair down first, so it wouldn't be quite as painful. Still, it's not something I'm anxious to try. :-\

Razor, it depends on how much of your back is covered with hair. If it's a smaller area you should be fine, but if it's more spread out it is going to take longer.
I had my back done years ago, and if you don't trim it down to the right length, it will hurt more than it needs to. ouch. If you go to an experienced (and licensed) hair remover you shouldn't have a problem.
I am due for a Summer trim down as we speak, lol.
-
I am moderately hairy - not like Bigfoot or Austin Powers - but the chest hair is dense - and my beard is like the Black Forest.
My back does grow hair - not alot - but enough so that I don't like it - so I use the Mangroomer for my back and it works like a charm!

Does it get it all? Since Sly, my wife is somewhat less cooperative in cleaning up the back!
-
Being hairy is just part of being a guy. But why do I have to have so much of it? Yesterday I trimmed my chest hair, cut about an inch of length off it and you can't even tell. I'd like to trim some off my back since it's length is just as bad. Maybe I can get my wife to trim my hair, since I will be coloring her hair Saturday, I think she should (not likely!)

What an interesting thread.
Men with MPB are likely to have high testosterone -- and also hairy bodies. I say live with it, it's only hair. ;)
I find it kind of kind of funny if a man who has embraced their baldness is fretting about something as silly as body hair. hmmmmm.......
Really a sign of our times I guess. All part of the commercialization and exploitation of human appearance and the norms of beauty. Fifty or sixty years ago men were mostly happy with themselves and their appearance. Fat, skinny, hairy, bald, whatever, men were men and they accepted it.
The current obsession with male appearance is a byproduct of the movement of consumerism and advertising from women to men. More evidence of this is the wealth of "men's magazines" that are all about health and fitness, what to wear, how to look, how to act, what's cool, who's cool, what to drive, what to buy, where to buy it, how much to buy. In effect, consumerist society decides our personal worth by how we look. Beauty products abound for men now.
This commercialization is really designed to create insecurities and worries in men just like it does in women. To be successful and accepted you have to look a certain way.
Men just didn't care about all that rubbish before. Today's man is pretty much being neutered. We're being turned into metrosexuals. In my practice I work with a lot of teenagers and the young men are having body image problems and issues just like girls. Obsessions with exercise, boys taking steroids, bulimia and eating disorders are all par for the course for male teens now.
Real men are hairy.... thats the way it is. Giving in to worrying about it, and removing it, is giving in to society's currently skewed views of human beauty and attractiveness.
There's my two bits.
-
I like removing my body hair. Basically anywhere except my legs, forearms (which i still trim down with clippers), and area right underneath my lower lip. The rest is clean.

Pretty judgmental coming from a psychologist, Pshrynk. I don't think a "real man" is defined by how much hair is or isn't on his body. If a guy has a hairy back and is self-conscious about it, what's wrong with removing it?
Aside from that, it isn't always a vanity thing. Body hair can be very coarse and if you have a lot of it, it can be very itchy and uncomfortable. Trimming, shaving, or waxing it can alleviate that discomfort, so it's not fair to pin every guy who does with the "metrosexual" label.

Thats exactly my point, why not be happy the way you are and NOT self conscious about MPB or body hair or whatever. IMHO why get self conscious about piddly sh*t like that? Life's too short too worry about something as minor as hair.
"real men are hairy" was said tongue in cheek.... ;)
Besides just because I'm a psychologist... doesn't mean I'm not allowed a personal opinion and that I have to accept everything and everybody? F that! Obviously I don't judge my clients for their foibles.... but society at large is fair game ^-^
Men ARE becoming more and more obsessed with their appearance and this is driven by rampant consumerism -- I stand by that statement.

-
I think the difference is that body hair is easily disposed of...while MPB isn't as easy to overcome. That's why you must accept MPB and go Sly...
-

Wanna bet? ;D Depends on how much you have.

Hahah well true...but as opposed to hair transplants and pills...easier to shave/trim/wax body hair. It's definitely a pain in the behind, but it's easier done

I shave my head because I think it looks better all gone rather than a friars ring.
I never said I wasn't vain. ;D

Oh no, I don't have the need to wax. I just use clippers and a razor

If I uploaded a picture of my chest and back you would swear evolution could actually be a possibility. My wife does not mind it at all but honestly I don't care for the hair on my back. Then again, for whatever reason it is part of who I am. So I keep it trimmed to a reasonable level.
As far as hair removal we tried the wax thing a couple of years ago. Let me tell you something. We don't need the military, CIA or waterboarding to extract terrorist information. Just capture one of those Al Queda guys, tie him down and put him in a room with my wife and a jar of hot wax. I promise you he will give up any info we need just to get away from her. Next to a slipped upper back disk that was by far the most painful experience of my life!
-
LOL Hammer LOL.....sorry bro..but most of our laughter and enjoy is usually at other peoples expense. I have two small patches on my back that my wife will NAIR every now and then for me. I hate even doing that...sh*t burns and itches....but man....
-

Please don't! >:D $@y
(just kidding, bro ... couldn't resist!! ^-^ )
-
Don't enjoy the body hair, and I'll tell you why....
Ya know how--for fitness guaging--we factor body fat percentage?
Well, I have to figure in body hair percentage....I'd be about 15 lbs lighter if I shaved my body. :D
-
Its ok TimmJ....when I was younger I was a bit more self concious about it...Now I make light of it and even get a kick out of walking out in a just a pair of shorts when one of my daughters friends is over. The looks on their faces is priceless..somewhere embarassing the hell out your kids is in the fine print in the "Daddy contract"

The older I get, the hairier I get everywhere except my head! Planet of the Apes hairy. Today, I took my wife to a new nail salon and spa near our home so she could get her nails done for Mother's Day, and I noticed a sign on the wall advertising chest, abdomen and back waxing (thankfully most of my back hair is near my shoulders) for $80. Well, to make a long story short, my wife said "why don't you go for it?" So, I did. I got waxed for the first time, and to be honest, it wasn't a walk in the park, but it wasn't that bad either. I've experienced worse pain and dealt with it. The back was no problem. The rest was pretty uncomfortable. But, my wife digs it, and I have to say it does look good. I don't consider myself a metrosexual or anything less than a manly man. I get that some people think men are supposed to be hairy and they should just live with it. Seriously, though, mine was getting out of control. This is a good change of pace.
-
I tolerate it but I have days when I wish I could permanently get rid of the forest on my back and chest and never have to think about it again.
-
Mans Hair is disappearing into the 21st century...just look around...
-
Real men ? Hahahahaha. Most men barely bathe & groom their face & head let alone their bodies. And they don't care about satisfying a woman with their appearance or anything else as long as they get their rocks off !! 😄
-
I don't mind my body hair. Not that I have alot of it but growing up, Magnum PI was the television role model for many young men in my age category. What bothers me now is the gray hairs showing through on my chest - instantly ages you!
The hair that bothers me the most is the hair growing on and in my ears! That's worse even than nose hair because it's harder to see to trim. I'm a very young feeling 52-year old whose is trapped in a body that is rapidly giving out on me! I can't do much about the autoimune disease processes going on inside me, but having old man hair in my ears, really?
Jim
-
White hair on the chest and no hair on the top suggests that, whatever you're claiming, you're older than that. I have never had a particularly hairy torso but for 15 years, since I went sly, I've kept the rest of me pretty much at a minimum. Again, this a personal preference. I've no idea how much hair on my head I would have if I let it grow back and what colour it might be. I've tried the "naked" look and, frankly, that's fine but maintenance is an issue. Oddly, my legs are the parts I keep peeled. I tan very easily and white hair against tan flesh doesn't cut it for me. I use a depilatory and "touch up" with a razor every so often if a spare hair shows up. Again, I'm old, 72 in a few weeks, so this may be an issue for the young, dark haired and hirsute. PJ
-
If you get a face and body trimmer with a foil attachment it's easy to keep those ear hairs trimmed. A young mind and attitude doesn't have to be trapped in an old body. A healthy & clean eating plan coupled with regular weight training will give you a body that will look much younger than 72 years. 😄👍
-
I have been told I am as hairy as a gorilla, There isn't much on me that is free from hair, but I like it! If I didn't I don't even want to think about the maintenance required to keep me sly from head to toe...
-
I am a generally an un-hairy person. The hair that I have on my body is generally very light in color, very thin and sparse. I take it all off once a month with the clippers, yes, there too. The only places I put razor to skin is my head and face. I am not ashamed to admit that this is a new thing I do since going sly. It just feels so amazing not having to worry about "hair”. I just take it all off and it makes me so happy. My eye brows, moustache and the little tuft under my lip is the only visible hair on my body.
My nose hairs, ear hair, and moustache gets trimmed with a pair of scissors while I bask in the sun at least once a week.
What is it with humans and their obsessions with hair? I was there too once, but now I see no place for the cultivation of these dead follicles.
If you are a living proof that evolution is true, then I suppose you will deal with your hair in a different way. My genetics did not have much hair wired into its code.
-
"Gorilla" sort of describes my wall to wall carpet of body hair. Hate it, but keeping it trimmed would be a fulltime job.
-
I don't care one way or the other about body hair, except The only body hair that really bothers me is the hair on my lower back. I shave it off every so often. Maintaining the dome is enough work!
-
I find that men who are bald/balding tend to grow more hair elsewhere in some weird places....Funny part is my hair loss is increasing, but the beard you see in my picture is only about 17 days old....Go figure.
-

Evil stuff, dihydrotestosterone. Makes you grow hair everywhere but your noggin.
-
Hi there Balddoc
If one has very little hair on the body generally, is that a sign of low testosterone levels in the body? Basically, is a hairy man more "manly" or "masculine" as he has higher testosterone level than a less hairy man?
-
LOL Waine! No. All guys (except eunuchs) produce testosterone. Hair follicles contain an enzyme, 5-alpha reductase, which converts testo into the far more potent dihydrotestosterone. Result: body hair and male-pattern pubic hair. Some of us are genetically inclined to respond more vigorously to dht and grow excessive body hair. Ironically, the scalp follicles respond to high dht levels by shrinking and eventually becoming inactive. It takes but a sniff of testo to make you a man. If you have a healthy libido, you have enough.
-
I have my genes to blame for little body hair. I have learned to embrace it although I am still wishing to have thicker brows and to grow a decent beard. Tsk. Tsk.
-
Thanks for the explanation Balddoc, it was most informative...
-
Hell, yeah! I'm furry and proud of it.
I agree, I'm a furry teddy bear and when I was a body builder I had to shave for completions and the following weeks after that while the fur grew back were a living hell I scratched so much it looked like I was in a cat fight. I finally gave up the whole body building thing partly because of the whole body shaving issue.
I'm now happy to wear my own fur coat and if someone has an issue with that, well it's there problem- some men were just born to be furry and should be proud of it!
-
I am half man half Sasquatch :D -judging by my hairy chest- while the my friends use to pull other for their hair they only needed to pull me for my T-shirt to hear a laud Ouch!and my friends thought that was funny :/O ,i was the first one to shave beard in elementary school and the first one to get thinning hair guess that hairy body goes with it ...
