Who here wears Cowboy Boots? I have never wore them in my life. I am not southern in any way. Actually I am very yankee. But I bought a pair of ropers not too long ago and love them! They look good and feel like dang slippers!!
Who else likes boots?
-
I have a pair of cowboy boots and a pair of Ropers. Haven't had the cowboy boots on in years. I really like the look of Ropers, but it's been awhile since I had mine on.
-
i have about 4 pairs of ropers. all justins and there is nothing more comfy.
-
Here is a picture I took from my phone at work. Yes I wear boots in my blues!! haha
-
OK I have to admit....I have no freakin idea what ropers are. I just wear Nike Tennis shoes and doc martens. For the funeral home I wear Johnston and Murphy's. Cowboy boots...I wore them one time. Hurt my feet too much....so guess im a woosy

I have a pair of Justin Pit Stop lacers that I've replaced the soles on twice already. The most comfortable pair of Ropers I ever had got stolen. It's almost time to replace my Justins, after five years the toes are finally starting to wear out. They've seen much better days, but they are so damn
comfortable I don't wanna get rid of 'em
-
ah yes the Justin Ropers...a great fit! I broke down and treated myself to a pair of black ostrich ropers a couple of years ago, man I like them boots!

i have a pair of elkskin lacers like that pig. beat to hell and back but too comfy to let go of.
-
Three pair. Black cowhide and Cream Elephant for dress. Tan roughout for knocking around.
-

That is the next pair I wanna buy is some of those Black Ostich ropers.
-
Well, I didn't get my handle because I wear sandals!
Mostly I wear motorcycle boots, but I do have a few pairs of ropers. I'm not a big fan of pointy toes and riding heels, so ropers -- with their sensible rounded toes and lower heels -- suit me just fine.
-
I haven't worn my cowboy boots in years. My elkskins need new heels and soles and I just can't find anyone to do it.
All this talk of ropers makes me want to go out and get a pair.
-
Here is a picture I took from my phone at work. Yes I wear boots in my blues!! haha
Nick! You tha man..... I was in the airforce. got out 3 years ago
-
The result of a collaberation between the Justin Boot Co. and the professional calf ropers of the PRCA, hence the name Ropers.
-
Never owned a pair of cowboy boots, but i'm tempted to find me a pair of these Ropers. They sound pretty comfortable.
-
I think everybody should own at least one pair of real, authentic cowboy boots; especially folks in the warmer, humid climates! ::) You know, the pointy toed boots with the tall heels. They are great for squishing the cockroaches in the corners of the rooms!! ;D ;D :x! :x! :x!

Dude I never owned boots either, but Justin Ropers are like wearing slippers! So nice! They look great with pretty much anything too!
-
Where would someone find a pair of Ropers? I'm guessing any standard western store? And how much to the run, price-wise?

I just bought some a couple months ago at a western store, with the insoles and the special lotion for the boots it was like $120
-
Never owned a paid of boots.
Although, golf shoes have spikes, so I'm one up on y'all.

Boots Are Made for Walking......The Dukes of Hazzard Yes, it was my idea to see this.
As America’s most beloved cinematic hickstorian, I felt it was my duty. (In my defense, I waited for the DVD.) When you aim this low and still miss the target, you have made a crappy movie indeed. At least the DVD came with that dirty, dirty Jessica Simpson video for “These Boots Are Made for Walking.”

-
Thank you for that one, Sly Surfer. I can't complain about those cowboy...or should i say, cowgirl boots.
-
Three pairs of Justins. Kinda standard issue in these parts (although I don't wear them every day)
One pair (brown ropers) is totally beat up but comfortable as slippers. Can't ditch 'em yet. Perfect yard and mud boot.
One pair is a Justin traditional western boot (#1408) dark brown smooth calfskin with a J toe. Hold a great shine, good for dress boots.
And just bought a pair of Justin George Strait 3.1 chestnut boots that have like a tennis shoe insert in them. Bought them on a lunch hour and was tempted to wear them back to the office in my suit they're so comfortable. I treated myself to these as a reward for reaching my 90-day SLY anniversary.

If you aren't near a western or work wear store, try E-bay or a place called Shepler's...online at www.sheplers.com (http://www.sheplers.com) they have retail stores in various states.

Never had a pair since I was 5 when I actually wanted to be a cowboy.

I'm with ya mojim. I have waterproof hunting boots and hikers, no cowboys here.
Guys who wear the cowboys here are either a truck driver passing through or they own a black suede hat and a silk red shirt (sometimes) with flames or black pinstripes. Then they have on these tight black wrangler jeans.... Why do I get this picture of Timmayyy wearing this in my head :o MAKE IT STOP.... MAKE IT STOP
AHHHHHHHHH g@@4 B@n% D@^^

Sorry to ruin a perfectly good dream for ya Champ....but that is one thing you will never see me in is tight jeans. I can not stand it when i see guys wearing tight jeans. Its like man....if i want to see the outline of someones body...it had better be girls...LOL

Yea I hate when dudes wear tight grape smugglers!!!

I agree with BootedBear about Ropers; I have a pair and like them a lot. I always thought of them as "cowboy boots" although simple, non-pointy toe and non-high heel . ...
Didn't know my boots of choice were called "Ropers" till I read this thread .
Who says slybaldguys.com isn't educational and informative ? !

Interesting... sound like nice boots these "ropers" you speak of...

I just picked my new pair of black ropers yesterday. I haven't had boots in several years and now I wonder what took so long.
-
Well I thought about ropers, but I recently got a new pair of boots for riding my bike, and they're not exactly ropers, and they're not exactly cowboy boots. Does anyone remember the harness boot style? They're not pointy toed either. Amazingly, they're even "official" H-D boots too! I guess I'm stuck in a time warp that goes back about 30 years. C#)P

Are you serious? Harness boots are still very popular with the bike crowd and elsewhere.

P.S. Nice bikes.
-
Thanks! Same at you! I told my wife that I was getting a bike this Spring so I wouldn't miss another year of riding, and this great deal came out of nowhere and I HAD to buy the bike! C#)P Of course I HAD to get the right boots to go with the bike too! :@`
I may try a pair of ropers some time, (when I get older). ;)
-
well i just got my ropers and man they are comfortable.one of my hobbies is horses i have 3 and wear cowboy boots only when i work with my horses and have tried a lot of cowboy boots and just dont find them comfortable and always thought if i was a long way from home riding and had to walk back my feet are going to be killing me but my ropers are great.i have a pair of arients but they dont compare. definitely worth it. i just got the basic black and like them really well O0
-
I used to wear those harness boots or "engineer boots" as some call them. They were nice but I got a pair of Doc Martains and they were never worn again...
Is there a certain brand of ropers you guys buy? I am considering getting a pair but this is very foreign territory for me. I usually wear lace up boots like these

i can only wear justin ropers. my feet are very picky i guess. but justins are the only ones that fit right.
-

Actually, harness and engineer boots are distinct styles:
Engineer boot:

Marz, I own a pair of Doc's, and, the way these guys talk about ropers, I feel the same way about my Docs. It's like walking on air. So damn comfortable.
-
Well Justin Ropers are all I have worn, but they are so dang comfy
-
I wear boots practically everyday. Being a Texan it just comes natural, may have slid into a pair in the delivery room for all I know. Majored in Agriculture, rode bulls a few times, ride horses frequently, and talk Texas B.S. all day long. Being an AG major I used to claim to be able to "Look up a Bulls Ass and tell ya' the price of Butter! Have since gone on to real estate appraising so predicting the price of butter is no longer in my repratoir.
Russ
-
You know we have a bunch of hicks on here (self included) if we can drum up 4 pages of comments about cowboy boots...lol!
-
Hey Russ! Nice to see another Texan...sorry I havent posted anything in awhile.
I wear boots with a western heel daily. I wear the Justin uniform boot with my police uniform. Its all black, has a western heel with spur ledge and a smooth toe(no Stiching design) so it looks military. It popular with DPS(the Texas Highway Patrol), many of the sheriffs deputies. My dept will not allow me to wear black cowboy boots with stiching on the toe. Its gotta be smooth.
off duty, its cowboy boots all the way.Got different types to work in, dress etc. The only non cowboy boot I wear are my military ones and only dress shoes are my military low quarters.
Believe it or not, after all these years I have never worn Ropers. Some of our officers wear them with their uniforms, they have a smooth toe.
Never rode bulls Russ but use to raise cattle.

Yeah, I love my Docs, thats for sure but the quality is not what it used to be. They were bought some time ago by macys or something and they just are not as nice as they were back in the old Brit days.
I have had good and bad luck with them recently, you just have to try them on.

-
Ironically, when in college I hauled hey to put my self thru school. I wore tennis shoes instead of boots. Couldn't find any boots back in the 70's that were comfortable enough to jump around from ground to flat bed. Then my Mom made me some chaps from old blue jeans reversed with front of leg cut out and then worn backwards. Next thing ya' know all the hard core ag. scholarship cowboys, a.k.a. "The Farm Boys", were wearing TShoes and blue jean chaps. I wear Justin Lace up leathers with a rugged rubber heal. They're actually seconds bought at the Justin Factory Outlet in Justin, TX +/- 55 miles from home. Great deals there and in Nacona, TX (Nacona Boots) about 75 miles. Don't wear riding heels as much, for lack of horses and time, but have had a pore of Full Quill Ostrich for 29 years and, until my arches starting flattening out they were the absolute most comfortable boots I've ever worn.
You guys wearing the uniforms in these photos, and sorry I not just yet on a first name basis, stay safe. I applaud you and respect you a great deal. My freedoms are much safer, but most importantly I feel my family is much safer with you guys taking care of busilness. I do appreciate what you do!

I got a pair of Doc's, which I wear a lot - yeah, they are really comfortable and give good support (I have an iffy ankle) - but I'd love some of those ropers everyone keeps talking about, and the harness boots too - if I knew where to get them from in the UK or on the web 8)
I did have some cowboy boots once, but always found them uncomfortable to walk in for too long. Mainly used them on stage in 'Oklahoma!' and other western-type shows. :)
-
Rob, some of the best boots in the world are Ropers

I don't think that is what's referred to as a western heel.

I have nine pairs, all traditional style, i usually wear cowboy boots once or twice a week, the rest of the time i wear birkenstocks, but both cowboy boots and the birkenstocks are very comfortable, and those are the only two styles of shoes that i wear on my free time.
-
I think Im going to go this weekend and buy anothe pair of boots. I would like the Black Ostrich Ropers. Dang those are tough

Looking good, Booted Bear!!!
-
To be honest I had a pair of cowboy boots when I was around 18/19 and it was probably one of the worst fashion statements I have made. Here in the UK only people of a "certain age" would wear those or people who are heavily into country and western music. I have attached the type of footwear I would wear.
-
I like cowboy boots, these are my boots
-
I have work cowboy boots all of my life. There is nothing better than jeans, boots, a thick stache and a shaved head. No one messes with ya.
-
cool bro!!!
-
Thats all I wear. I have a pair of double H lacers and a pair of double H riding boots, they look like ropers. Before that I had some rhino boots, they wore out too fast. I have worn shoes maybe 3 times since I was in middle school, I wore boots to my wedding and I have worn them to funerals, they are comfortable and look good with everything.
-
What is with all the shiny boots, cowboy boots aren't supposed to be shiny. They should be covered In cow poo and dirt.
I can't find a pair of cowboy boots that fit my foot properly, so I went one step better for work and working on the ranch when required. I went and got myself a pair of Nick's.
-
OK I have to admit....I have no freakin idea what ropers are. I just wear Nike Tennis shoes and doc martens. For the funeral home I wear Johnston and Murphy's. Cowboy boots...I wore them one time. Hurt my feet too much....so guess im a woosy
that's 'wussy'
and yes you are! :P
-
Here's mine....comfy as sh**
-
I've worn boots all my life and have numerous pairs from elk hide to ostrich to plain old leather and ranging from cowboy style to biker to hiking. My favorites are my Red Wing harness boots.
-
My favorites are my Red Wing harness boots.
I really like mine as well. Very well-made boots.
-
Cowboy boots do NOT look comfortable to me...plus I don't think I could pull it off.
-
Love the look of boots; my heel spurs prevent me from doing so. Oh well!
-
It must be a U.S. thing cos over here only over 50's into country n western would wear that type of thing. I also think they look way too uncomfortable.
-
My favorite type of boots.

very comfortable!!!
but all time no wear cowboys boots, sometimes!!!
for me is a real shoes for a man!!!
is my opinion!!!
-
Cowboy boots do NOT look comfortable to me...plus I don't think I could pull it off.
It really depends upon the boots and getting the proper fit.
I can't stand pointy toes and heels, so boots with rounded toes and sensible heels work best for me. Ropers (lots about them earlier in this topic) seem to work best for most people.
There's also a big difference between boots intended to be worn for work, and those really ornate boots better suited to standing around and posing.
-
yeahhhhhhhhhh IS TRU!!!
thanks bro!!!
-
I just got a new pair of motorcycle boots. Had to show them off.

Aye... I have Cowboy boots...about 4-5 pairs (as well as some motorcycle boots) - The cowboy boots are usually worn when I have occasion to dress up. Other than that they get pulled out of the closet, polished, and put back in the closet for another 4-6 months O0
BTW...sweet boots, bootedbear!! O0 O0
-
Nice boots bootedbear....I use to wear cowboy boots when I lived out west because everyone did....but you don't see many people wearing them here in the east, so I no longer wear them...
-
I just got a pair of custom made boots, it is like nothing else. They are the most comfortable thing I have ever had on my feet, even more comfortable than my sheep skin slippers. They cost about $350 but it was worth it. I suggest everyone get them, I am wearing them right now but it feels like I am barefoot, they fit so great. I never thought I would spend that much, most of my boots are $200 and below but the wife suggested it.
Nice boots Booted!
-
Good deal Mike !! Nice to have a wife that suggests the more expensive pair !! O0
-
Have a few pair myself. I wear my Justin steel-toes to work every day. My favorite pair are my Ariats with a modern square toe and cool distressed leather. The most comfortable boots I've ever worn.
There are lots of styles of boots that anyone can wear without looking too western. My Ariats are like that.
Some days you'll catch me in boots and a western shirt, but the next I'm in trendy clothes with flip flops. Just whatever I feel like that day. I know some guys try to fit into stereotypes, but I'm my own man and don't care.
-
I use my cowboy boots, I like that I would not necessarily seem to anybody, I like my boots cowboy, and my head shaved my goatee, that's for me to be myself.
-
my pic
-
nice pair of boots JP
-
Thanks John!!!
do you like the cowboy boots?
-
Yup; I do; I have a pair of black ones; non-pointy toes (the "Ropers" that were talked about earlier in this thread) .
Maybe I'll post a pic.
john
-
Great bro!!!
I really love the cowboy boots are really cool
hey and I hope to see the photo of his boots
-
Nice boots Booted!
Thanks!
I just got a pair of custom made boots, it is like nothing else.
Mike speaks true! Both the black pair in my avatar picture and the redwood pair I recently posted are custom-made. I have wide feet and super-beefy calves that make buying taller off-the-shelf boots impossible.
They're pricey, but they're worth every penny and will last a lifetime.
-
Just picked up a pair of lizard skin pointy toe boots the other day. Damn comfy and look great!
-
Was thinking about this thread tonight and today. as it was my "Pull out all the leather footwear and polish/mink oil/brush - whatever it takes to get them looking new again" day! I came to a realization - I have a LOT of leather footwear. :*))
-
My partner got me a new pair for my birthday.
They're actually a bit shinier than they look in this photo, so they'll be great for dressing up.

They're just like I like them: sensible round toe and flat heel.

Nice looking boots BB....I only wish they were in style around here in the north east, I miss wearing my boots when I lived out west but you rarely see anyone wearing them here.... :-\
-
To be honest, you don't see a whole lot of guys wearing them around Austin either. Doesn't matter. Make your own style!
-
Those are one hot pair of boots, BootedBear !
-
Thanks John! That's what I like to wear when I "dress up".

We wear 'em quite a bit just to the west in New Mexico. I love my Justin Pit Stop lacers, wife tells me it's time for a new pair and I have to disagree.....they're just getting broken in!

One pair of Tony Lama boots. Only wear them about once a year though. Not alot of call for cowboy boots in this area.
