On a rainy and miserable Thursday night about three years ago. I'd just finished working out at the gym and when I got to my car, found it wouldn't start. As luck would have it, I'd left my cell phone at home that night, so I had to go back into the gym and use the pay phone to call my dad to come and get me. :-[ :-[ :-[
I was shocked when I saw how much the price of a call from a pay phone had gone up -- it was something like 60 or 70 cents for one local call. It just wasn't my night; I didn't have a whole lot of change with me either, and I can remember trying to scrape enough together to make the phone call.

I can't remember the last time I even seen a payphone.
-
I used a pay phone about a year back, but only because I'd come out without my mobile by mistake. Before that i hadnt used one for five years or so, and they had changed a lot - hardly even knew how to operate it, and the price had gone WAY up :o

Its been along time, I've had a cell for years. I see people using them all the time and wonder to myself in these days why would anyone ever need one, even if you can't get a regular service cell theres always the prepaid. Hell I haven't even had a home phone in a few years

I'd like to have someone "implant" a cell phone in it. That would be pretty funny, walk around carrying this old rotary phone. I suppose someone could for the right amount of $$$$.

Im not really sure when I used a payphone last. I remember a few months ago I seen a payphone and I just picked it up to see if it still worked.....and it didnt.
My first cell phone was probably about 14 years ago....it wasnt actually a cell phone...it was a bag phone. Remember those...yeah...but buddy...you bet your ass I was cool dude. Cause I could drive around and talk to my friends. Cell phones have come a long way.

What's a "Pay Phone"? :P (Yeah, it's been THAT long!)
-
I got my first cell phone in 2006. So I think that was the last time I have used a pay phone. I might have since then if I forgot my cell. But I honestly can't remember.
-
can't remember the payphone but the cell phone was in 1990-91.
-
Used a pay phone just a few weeks ago. Absolutely HAD to have a land line to transmit information to the doctor's office. I've had a cell phone off and on for the past 10 years.
-
Its 198? , hell sometime in the eighties when I needed my brother to pick my drunk ass up! `Dr!n#
-
It's been a while; seems like it may have been down at the hospital when I forgot to charge the cell. And as I recall, it did not come cheap.
-
It has been a hell of a long time and I simply can't remember. Has to be over 5 years or more though.
-
I remember the call cost 25 cents (have no idea what they cost now). It's been at least 5 years.

1997, I was in a holding cell in the county jail. It was my one free call. I actually made a few calls, but they were all collect.

One of my buddies got a DUI a while back and because of his cell phone, didn't have anyones number memorized. So, being the out of the box thinker he is, used the pay phone to call a bail bondsman who posted a card above the phone and had her call me at work to come bail him out. He gave her my name and the name of the company I worked for and she called up the main line and asked for me. She said she was an old friend of mine and got through. When I answered she went into the story of how she came to call me and that I needed to come see her to bail my buddy out. 30 minutes later I was in her office. We still laugh at how he pulled that one off.

last time i used a pay phone was september. I was going fishing and i blew out the sidewall of a tire and found a nail in my spare 60 miles from the nearest town and 5 miles from the canadian border. I hitchhiked to a store a few miles back, called a tow truck and waited for 5 hours for the truck to show up.
60 miles of dirt road is a long way in a tow truck.
