hey guys, im new to head shaving and this site, so thought id ask some experienced head shavers for advice on how often should i look at changing my blade, i use the headblade shaver if tha comes into it at all, thanks
-
Great question and welcome to the forum from a fellow noob!
I was thinking this same thing the other day.
-
Welcome to the Forum Sheldon! I seem to get about a week of good shaves from the HB triples.... but please realize that I used to have MPB so there is virtually no hair on top to help dull the blade!
-
ever week to 10 days using atra generics (twin blade) for the Head Blade Classic and a Schick Extreme3 for the face.
-
thanks for that, just so i know how many blades to get in advance as i live in Whitby in the UK which is a little fishing town with little shops where i cant get the blades i need,so need to buy a few in advance when i go to a town or order on the net, thanks

I use the Sensor Excel blades on my HeadBlade and change them every Monday.
-
I get just about a week, maybe a little more. The reason I think, is that I switch off between two HeadBlade Sports. Yeah, I have two of 'em. I have two classics also......so maybe I obsess just a wee bit. Anyway, I usually switch off everyday. Maybe it's just in my head too, but I like it.

Pigpen, you should put one in each hand when you shave. Then you'd finish twice as fast and the blades would last twice as long. ;D

To answer the question, I'm getting right around 16 days (daily shaver) out of both the generic Gilette Atra's and the Fusion blades (touchup and face). This since I started drying them and pouring about a capful of rubbing alcohol over them when finished. I really think it helps. O0
-
I started drying my blade also, I think it extends the use by about half. I have no real proof, but seems to be working. I dry blow through it and dry it with bath towel.
-
I too switch between 2 HB sports (one at my house, the other at my girlfriends)
I find myself changing blades about every 2 weeks, so if I stuck with 1 HB, it'd be weekly. I also use Sensor Excel carts
-
Weekly?!?
:o
When shaving my face, I'll go months without changing the blades. I was thinking maybe once a month. I'm gonna have to rethink the blades I use (HB Triples). I think I should go with Atra Generics if they appear to last about the same time as the HB Triples.

thanks guys, really given me an idea of what to expect, loving pigpens enthusiasm with all the headblades! great to hear ha O0

Wife thinks I'm a bit off my rocker when it comes to the HB stuff.
Hell, I'm a bit off my rocker anyway!

I do the weekly route myself but its going to depend on how you care for your blades and how much your cutting down.
-
I use a new blade every time I shave my face since it seems to be one more step in shaving sensitive skin. However, starting to use the Fusion for the chromedome, I can't afford to change the $3.50 razor every other day, so ill end up using that for at least 2 or 3 shaves.
-
depends on the blade for me. but now that i'm using fusion power blades, the current one i'm on is at shave 6 and going strong (i shave my head once a day, and i have coarse, thick hair). so that's at least a week i'm getting out of this blade. i don't recall who said it earlier in this thread, but dousing your blades in a little rubbing alcohol after usage extends their lifespan a ton--i'm like the poster boy for blades+alcohol on this site.
i do think that you can 'help' your blades though, too. like, when i use a good amount of headslick on my dome, the blade cuts better and (i think) has less friction, and thus, less wear. i find when i use less shaving product (creams, whatever) and shave out of the shower, my blades run out quicker. take it as you will.

I can get away with using the same blades for a long time, but I generally start feeling it getting dull after a week, so Monday is a good time to swap them out for new ones. It's usually a noticeable difference in shaving speed and quality.

Since I started leaving a day in between shaves, (though not all the time, lol) I am getting a good 7-10 days of use from a cartridge. I also change off between my HB sport and classic, so it stretches pretty far.
And like Asher stated, I also believe it's good to make sure you have plenty of your favorite cream or gel to reduce friction.
