Title: What are you getting your "significant other" for Valentines Day??
Post by: andrew on February 08, 2008, 05:10:41 AM
Fellow Baldies ...

What are you getting your significant other for Valentines Day?

I bought my wife a bottle of her favorite perfume.  This year I actually prepared ahead of time instead of scrambling at the last minute.   :@`

White Zin?  :/O
Mel mi amigo, if you want to impress the wife, ya gotta do better than the KoolAid. Maybe a nice Pinot Noir. Or, if you are cooking spicy food and can find it, get a Tempranillo. It's a spanish grape that has a nice flavor. For dessert, try a late harvest zin. It's not a sweet as a port, but goes great with chocolate.

We're doing a family night and the Lovely Mrs. Schro and I will probably do something else on another night (reservations and baby sitters are tough to find on V-Day). I enjoy cooking so I'll probably
BBQ a big ol' london broil with a gorgonzola cream sauce
some sauteed garlic shrimp for an appetizer
spinach salad
twice baked potatoes
sourdough rolls.
Dinner will likely be paired with "Earthquake Syrah" from the Michael David Phillips winery. Kick Azz wine (Gold Medal)
Oh, I plan on making homemade flan for dessert.

Yeah, I'm the man.  O:O

schro, what time is dinner?

I hate Valentines day.  >:(  I feel like I need to perform like a seal just because there is an abritrary day put on the calendar.

Stu, I feel the same way....and the Lovely Mrs. Schro knows I hate this day too (told her as much when we first met 15 yrs ago).

A couple of days ago, I shot off an email to a couple of buddies suggesting we go out drinking on Feb. 14th. One of them (who is married to a complete douche bag) replied: "Oh Feb. 14th, you mean Valentine's Day? That day where men are expected to go out of their way, jump through hoops, and put on the happy face all for a f**kin' card....if you're lucky"?

Yeah, he's a bitter man.

This exchange between Eddie & Clark from Vacation reminds me of the proposed Valentine's feast at Tim's house.....

"I don't know why they call it Hamburger Helper....tastes great by itself"
"Real Tomato Catsup, Ed?"
"Only the best, Clark!"

Easy one, since we rarely ever have sweets from a store around the house, I only have to get the ol' standard See's candy box...but it's GOTTA be See's

by HER request...a total treat for her....

see how eating healthy most of the time makes things nice and easy!

Just a card (her request).  We'd both rather blow our money on other things.

Let's not tread on heresy here, saintc it was, is and shall be, now and forever O0.  And, of course, it's St. Valentine's Day, and I got the wifey a box of good chocolates :@`, and I'll bet she eats them w/o a bad or snide comment about the shaved head ;D.  Once the chocolate's gone, back to the whining!  Maybe I'll get her another box if the whining gets too loud, say, can you commission a chocolate model of a Sly Guy head?????

A little late here, but at our house, it was a box of See's, two dozen red tulips and dinner at home: grilled bacon-wrapped filet mignon with polenta, spinach and citrus salad and a bottle of red wine.

This exchange between Eddie & Clark from Vacation.....

"I don't know why they call it Hamburger Helper....tastes great by itself"
"Real Tomato Catsup, Ed?"
"Only the best, Clark!"

 :*))

Schro: I just saw this and I'm cracking up. I can't tell you how many times we've quoted that line and others from Vacation...especially if we're at a BBQ. Ditto for when Audrey is stirring the pitcher of KoolAid with her entire hand and Clark says: "Audrey, can I help you with that....please?" Second only to "Daddy says I'm the best kisser," and the part when Rusty chugs a beer after the family truckster bites it.
