Title: make-up for dome?
Post by: Asher on January 31, 2008, 08:55:00 PM
hey guys.  i'm a part-time actor, and i just got a big part (yes, thank you thank you) and am looking for the perfectly-shorn look.  i wanted to know if anybody has worked in film/stage and knows any good makeup techniques for covering shadow on domes, making it all blend together.  i know that guys like bruce willis have professionals do it.  anybody know of anything?

Hey Asher...I have done some production work for a thing we do every year here in my town.  Its a huge production that consist of about 300 cast members.  The one thing that we used alot was called pancake make up.  Its just a solid paste type stuff and you have to wet a sponge to apply it.  YOu might want to check with your local costume shop and see what they have.  The pancake makeup is available at walmart in the womens cosmetic department.  I know im gonna get alot of laughs out of this...but I dont care.. lol...i say no more! LOL

So Timmy, do you put the pancake makeup on when you're wearing the red and white shorts?  Richard Simmons would be proud of you .... ;D ;D

warhawk--it's a world premiere play that incorporates real television footage, and they're making a documentary out of the process.   so while i don't know the end results because i can't predict the success of the project, it stands to be seen on stage, on tv, and on screen....???

timmj--good idea--i'm familiar with pancake makeup.  my problem is i have a very fair complexion and i've never seen pancake makeup that's not that typical solid beige color, and the whole point obviously is to make it look like i'm not wearing any.  i will take my sister to wal-mart with me and see what they have!  i ordered some dermablend and covermark in lighter shades, and i'll see if i can find some pancake as well and i'll experiment.  thanks for the info!

Congratulations Asher!!!  I think it all depends on the type of lighting, but it is not my area of expertise.

Timm, don't you use make-up at the funeral home?

actually ryebread i have some bare minerals powder.  it's a great setter/toner to top off the base.  in your gf's case, on the face, it's pretty kick-ass.

let the jokes begin.
