Title: An outsiders perspective
Post by: METAPHOR on January 30, 2008, 03:22:56 PM
Just wanted to offer up some thoughts.

I’ve posted a couple of times here in the past after getting a couple of buzz-cuts.
The last of which was on Halloween. I enjoyed the look and the freedom it offered but man, was it cold! Even that 1/16” of hair made a difference.

I’ve been growing it back since then, but I find myself still enjoying reading this forum.  My hair seems to be returning after my frightening first contact with major depression. This is nice, but at the same time I was starting to feel at home with the thought of sly-ness.

I tell my fiancé that I may buzz it all off again after I get married in June (and it gets warm again) she’s totally fine with it.

The main thing is; I feel that I’ve come a long way to accepting whatever the future may bring. I also believe that I have been able to put things in the right perspective. Yes, hair is nice but I am very happy with the individual I have worked hard to be. Hair will not change my identity or my confidence. It seems sort of silly now to think that I was so worried about it.

It’s funny, but lately I seem to be looking at the world through the eyes of a sly person. A lot of times I’ll find myself looking at people I meet or work with and considering what they would look like bald.

I have found the same thing that many of you already have: It doesn’t matter if the individual has hair or not. Unkempt, unmotivated, out of shape individuals do not look good or inspire anyone at any time.

The inner person, or geist is what really affects the way individual is viewed by his/her world and in turn the way the individual views his/her world.

I hope you don’t mind if I continue to read your posts and occasionally contribute.

Thanks again for the upbeat progressive vibe.

Great post bro!  I think you've hit it on the head that it really is the inner confidence (or lack there of) that is was people see when they look at a person.  I know some people that are what I like to call the "beautiful people" and when they walk in the room everyone notices.  But as soon as someone gets around them, they  are quickly reduced because they either have not confidence or their attitude is just nasty.  Yet, when guys like us walk in a room, we may not get noticed immediately, but when people get around us and notice our confidence and great attitudes, it's hard to notice anything else.

What great words, Metaphor.  More people need to be happy with the great people they already are and not as others view them or want them to be.  Your thoughts are applicable to so many and not just those who need to or want to go sly.

Metaphor, what a great outlook you have.

Like my Bald cajun brother PBurke says, Sly is an attitude, having no hair is just a small facet of it. great words mate.

Inspired insight, METAPHOR.

Just as we remind "fencers" that friends, family and co-workers shouldn't really care if one's personal choice is to have a slick shaved head, the opposite holds true. The SBG family won't let a haircut or hairstlye be the sole characteristic on which we judge someone.

Unless, of course, you start sporting a skullet. Then, all bets are off.

Stick around and stay in touch.

Great post man.

Sly or not, you should post more often.  Good to hear your insights.

Awesome! Yes the "geist"  (thanks for using a german word!), that's it. Stay very welcome here.
