Title: THE MEETING OF THE SLY
Post by: PBurke on December 07, 2006, 06:19:01 PM
We are trying to get a convention, of sorts, together. I am trying to get some input on where you guys would like to do this. We are thinking maybe late summer. We really need to get an idea of where so we can start searching for a venue. there will be another poll later to see how many plan to attend. but we kinda need to start looking at options now for a place to hold this. Any suggestions or opinions would be helpful. thanks Paul

ha ha it is a tie sly one. i voted for austin cause i live an hour from new orleans and don't care for it too much. my second choice is a cruise.

If you have it in Austin, I can come since it would only be a 2 1/2 hour drive.   Right now I can't spare a lot of money for stuff like plane tickets etc.

Plus if you guys need a tour guide, I did spend three glorious years in Austin as a UT student.

I'm pretty much the same distance from the top three.  My Parents live in the L.A. area.  Friends live in Texas and I've never been to Chicago.

How many people do you expect?

I voted, but I'm not going to say where yet because I don't want to skew other's thoughts.  Rob, one of the things we're trying to figure out is how many people.  But, we need to decide on a venue before people will commit.

Can I vote Athens, Greece?

Oh, it's so unfair! I live 9.000-10.000 km away from most of you guys.
We'll have to find a compromise.

So Athens it is, then?

Hey, congrats, Paul! 200 is a great number. :) And with great numbers comes great responsibility...

I voted a cruise, only because I've always wondered how it would be to go out to sea and lounge around and get waited on.

But it really would depend on the time frame, etc.  Probably won't be able to afford it.  Have a daughter in college soaking up all my funds.

If you can avoid falling overboard or getting the liquid out of both ends sickness, cruises are ok.

How about South Florida during hurricane season? Good rates for room blocks and mtg halls. lol

Hey guys...  New member here.  Dallas resident.  I'm rootin' for Austin.  Would LOVE to get together with a whole bunch of chromeheads!  Actually, I'm growing my hair out right now for a St. Baldricks' event in March.  I raised almost $1,500 last year and I really want to break that number this year.  So after St. Patrick's Day, I'll be slick bald again until the fall...

Welcome to Sly Bald Guys Cefus!  It would be great to have you at our event, no matter where it's at.  That's an honorable thing you are doing for St. Baldricks!

I thought about New York, but it's really expensive for a first meeitng.  I was also thinking Vegas, but it's really easy for people to get side tracked into doing other things than hanging with everyone else.  But, if these are places you  guys really want to go to, then we could always add them to the list.

By the way....

Are we talking about a meeting of JUST THE SLY?  Or does it include wives, significant others.....kids?

Doesn't really matter that much to me....just want to make sure we're all on the same page.

I think a lot of it is going to depend on what time of year that we're going to do this...  Obviously, Chicago in the Winter sucks pretty bad.... but it's awesome in the summer!

Texas in the summertime... I've got two words... FREAKIN' HOT!!  But Texas in the winter... right on!!

Then let's figure out which areas are more "family friendly"...  But "Sly Single Friendly" also, so all of us single SBGs can have something to do also!!   ;D

It is kinda of a toss up for me.  Chicago would be cool BUT NOT IN THE WINTER.  I think it would be best to try and keep it in the central band of the US to help minimize travel.
Sorry Paul, it will be a bit before I can go back to the Big Easy.   :( :( :(

I'm happy to assist in any phase of this endeavor. I'm a Travel/Tourism & Hospitality major; thar be a chance I could disguise it as a project for my upcoming Tour Packaging class.

It actually is quite simple since one of my two jobs doesn't quite fit in the traditional business field, I decided to keep my options open with a more general study.

oh yeah… and the admission chick for that college was super hot and was all about flirting!!  :P

My kids are involved with all sorts of activities, and my wife usually wears the Super Mom cape. Just from my standpoint, I don't see her going along for the ride, so my vote is dudes only. If it could be west coast, i could piggy back it with a business trip.

So Cal?

It all depends on my work schedule. With some advanced notice, I can be pretty flexible.
Title: Re: THE MEETING OF THE SLY
Post by: BigJeffrey on January 08, 2007, 12:49:53 PM
As long as I have ample notice to get off work and save some $$$ I don't really have an issue with any place.  I voted for a cruise simply because I've always wanted to go on one and never got to.  It would be family or single guy friendly.  Again, i'm not too concerned with the where....just the when and the vacation it would entail.

Title: Re: THE MEETING OF THE SLY

Dunno who's thought much about this....but I think realistically 10 to 15 of us at the most will be able, willing and ready to get together.

I think we'd have a blast regardless....but I don't think it'll be a thing where we reserve a large convention room at a major hotel.

Someone mentioned--think it was Paul--chartering a boat.   That might not be too far fetched.

Any thoughts?

Title: Re: THE MEETING OF THE SLY

i don't think it would have to be anything too formal.  Just a place where we can hang out and have some fun.  If we were all in the same hotel (wherever it goes down) then we could find stuff to do pretty easily...golf, fish, hunt chicks (BaldRob)....just kind of a weekend getaway for bald folks.

Right...the less structured, the better.

Rooms at the same hotel...not a Five Star, but not Motel 6....nice in-house Bar & Grill with BIG SCREEN....nearby golf course...etc....etc....
