We are trying to get a convention, of sorts, together. I am trying to get some input on where you guys would like to do this. We are thinking maybe late summer. We really need to get an idea of where so we can start searching for a venue. there will be another poll later to see how many plan to attend. but we kinda need to start looking at options now for a place to hold this. Any suggestions or opinions would be helpful. thanks Paul

Go figure... I voted first and Chicago won!!! ;D
-
ha ha it is a tie sly one. i voted for austin cause i live an hour from new orleans and don't care for it too much. my second choice is a cruise.
-
If you have it in Austin, I can come since it would only be a 2 1/2 hour drive. Right now I can't spare a lot of money for stuff like plane tickets etc.
Plus if you guys need a tour guide, I did spend three glorious years in Austin as a UT student.
-
I'm pretty much the same distance from the top three. My Parents live in the L.A. area. Friends live in Texas and I've never been to Chicago.
How many people do you expect?
-
I voted, but I'm not going to say where yet because I don't want to skew other's thoughts. Rob, one of the things we're trying to figure out is how many people. But, we need to decide on a venue before people will commit.

I know which one you voted for, but I won't give it away.
-
new rule!!! you can not vote for your hometown. haha j/k guys. i just don't like new orleans.
-
Can I vote Athens, Greece?
Oh, it's so unfair! I live 9.000-10.000 km away from most of you guys.
We'll have to find a compromise.
So Athens it is, then?
-
athens, ga? that works. only about 10 hrs of driving from here. ha ;D hey this is post number 200 for me.
-
Hey, congrats, Paul! 200 is a great number. :) And with great numbers comes great responsibility...
-
I voted a cruise, only because I've always wondered how it would be to go out to sea and lounge around and get waited on.
But it really would depend on the time frame, etc. Probably won't be able to afford it. Have a daughter in college soaking up all my funds.
-
If you can avoid falling overboard or getting the liquid out of both ends sickness, cruises are ok.
How about South Florida during hurricane season? Good rates for room blocks and mtg halls. lol

Just think of all the frequent flier miles you'd build up on this trip!! ;D

Yeah they would be damn cheap. I'll start savin money now. Tell the wife I'm goin for work...hahahahahahaha
-
I guess were too cool to have it on the east coast! 8)
-
Why not have it in VEGAS!!!!
There are always great rates and all kinds of conventions going on it vegas.
-
We probably wouldn't remember anything
-
Yeah, I'll still never remember why I got the starship enterprise tatooed on my butt.
-
Hey guys... New member here. Dallas resident. I'm rootin' for Austin. Would LOVE to get together with a whole bunch of chromeheads! Actually, I'm growing my hair out right now for a St. Baldricks' event in March. I raised almost $1,500 last year and I really want to break that number this year. So after St. Patrick's Day, I'll be slick bald again until the fall...
-
Welcome to Sly Bald Guys Cefus! It would be great to have you at our event, no matter where it's at. That's an honorable thing you are doing for St. Baldricks!
-

I thought about New York, but it's really expensive for a first meeitng. I was also thinking Vegas, but it's really easy for people to get side tracked into doing other things than hanging with everyone else. But, if these are places you guys really want to go to, then we could always add them to the list.
-
welcome and applause, cefus. that is the only reason to let it grow. hope you enjoy the forum.

By the way....
Are we talking about a meeting of JUST THE SLY? Or does it include wives, significant others.....kids?
Doesn't really matter that much to me....just want to make sure we're all on the same page.
-
Yeah, good idea. My warden...er wife doesn't let me stray far...hahahahaha

I was pondering that same question. I'm down for either guys only or bring the fam. What do you guys think?
-
fam.
-
I'm down for bringing the family, but let's find something for them to do if we want to do our thing solo and stuff...yes?
-
that is why i suggested a cruise. because there is stuff for everyone to do.
-
Like the idea, my wife is deathly afraid of the water...especially deep water.
-
those ships are like being on land. i was on a drilling ship in the gulf. (750 ft long) it was really cool. we were in 8,000 feet of water. made me want to go on a cruise. just never got around to it.
-
I'm totally cool with the fam.
-
I think a lot of it is going to depend on what time of year that we're going to do this... Obviously, Chicago in the Winter sucks pretty bad.... but it's awesome in the summer!
Texas in the summertime... I've got two words... FREAKIN' HOT!! But Texas in the winter... right on!!
Then let's figure out which areas are more "family friendly"... But "Sly Single Friendly" also, so all of us single SBGs can have something to do also!! ;D
-
any body work for a beer company? hahahaha thinking about you bald-rob.
-
It is kinda of a toss up for me. Chicago would be cool BUT NOT IN THE WINTER. I think it would be best to try and keep it in the central band of the US to help minimize travel.
Sorry Paul, it will be a bit before I can go back to the Big Easy. :( :( :(
-
don't apologize to me i voted for austin. don't care for nawlins myself.

One stop for all your meeting needs with no chance of falling over board. ;D
I'm happy to assist in any phase of this endeavor. I'm a Travel/Tourism & Hospitality major; thar be a chance I could disguise it as a project for my upcoming Tour Packaging class.

HHHhhhmmmmm.....
-
cool a professional tourist. hahahahaha
-
Someone please inform me why I chose Organizational Leadership... :'(
-
I'll play your silly game...why?
-
I have not idea either. There are all these other degrees that offer fun and excitement, and I chose Organizational Leadership. :(

Come on, a least make up a cool story behind the decision ;D. That was weak, man.
-

Yeah... that doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun!!
At least with mine, which is Workforce Education, Training, and Development, I get to go to cool places like Hawaii!!! (I know... shut up already about Hawaii!!)
-

It actually is quite simple since one of my two jobs doesn't quite fit in the traditional business field, I decided to keep my options open with a more general study.
oh yeah… and the admission chick for that college was super hot and was all about flirting!! :P
-
Oh I never said there had to be a cool story involved, but just to make one up for fun :).
-
Degrees have a lot of uses .... which explains why I am teaching science with a history major!!
-
we need to get more people into the idea of this convention if we are gonna have it. if we only get ten people that want to do this then i will line up an offshore fishing trip on some kind of charter boat. thank you for your cooperation. ;D
-
looks like austin is winning. you guys need to stand up and be heard.
-
You know what's going to be really cool at the convention...
When some girl comes up to one of us and asks "What? Is there a Bald guys convention going on?" and then the expression on her face when we say "Yes there is!" ;D
-
My kids are involved with all sorts of activities, and my wife usually wears the Super Mom cape. Just from my standpoint, I don't see her going along for the ride, so my vote is dudes only. If it could be west coast, i could piggy back it with a business trip.
So Cal?
-
ok schro. west of here is AUSTIN. that works right?
-
It all depends on my work schedule. With some advanced notice, I can be pretty flexible.
-
As long as I have ample notice to get off work and save some $$$ I don't really have an issue with any place. I voted for a cruise simply because I've always wanted to go on one and never got to. It would be family or single guy friendly. Again, i'm not too concerned with the where....just the when and the vacation it would entail.
-
Im the same as Jeffrey - as long as my schedule permits
-
Dunno who's thought much about this....but I think realistically 10 to 15 of us at the most will be able, willing and ready to get together.
I think we'd have a blast regardless....but I don't think it'll be a thing where we reserve a large convention room at a major hotel.
Someone mentioned--think it was Paul--chartering a boat. That might not be too far fetched.
Any thoughts?
-
It would probably be Fri to Sun. nothing too long. what do you guys think?
-
i don't think it would have to be anything too formal. Just a place where we can hang out and have some fun. If we were all in the same hotel (wherever it goes down) then we could find stuff to do pretty easily...golf, fish, hunt chicks (BaldRob)....just kind of a weekend getaway for bald folks.
-

Yeah...that's what I have pictured

Right...the less structured, the better.
Rooms at the same hotel...not a Five Star, but not Motel 6....nice in-house Bar & Grill with BIG SCREEN....nearby golf course...etc....etc....

Sexist!! Women should definitely be allowed on the trip, they make things a lot more fun (unless you're wife wears the pants, eh?!! ;-) )
Erm, can anyone spot me the airfare and a place to stay... ;D
-
Like the idea, my wife is deathly afraid of the water...especially deep water.

Just take the school bus then, unless it's the short school bus ;D
-
AH the short bus .... The best threat to misbehaving kids on the bus. "Shut up and behave or you'll be on the short bus"
-
0~~ ^^*d how many people can we expect to attend this thing. more people means better room rates.
-
I'd love to attend, but will depend on where it ends up. Hope to hang with ya'll, that'd be sweet! ~Yeti O0
