Hi,
My name is Anthony and im from the UK. I've been reading this forum for a few weeks now and decided to join up. I've been losing my hair since i was about 15 >:( (i am now 21)so its kinda ruined my teen years as i completely lack any confidence because of it.
I prob would have shaved it off now if it wasn't for my huge egg shaped head lol. i don't think theres a hour that goes by without me lookin in the mirror to see my hair, i even pretend to go the toilet in work just so i can look in the mirror in there to make sure my bald spots ain't showing lol. i sum times even go in the lift just cause its got a mirror in. and don't get me started on the wind, i hate it so much. damn wind :Xo! and the rain as well i hate the rain. totally exposes me. :Xo!
i just wish i had the courage to shave it off like alot of you guys have done. but i already look freaky and i think with it all shaven off you could really see how weird my head shape is. :'(

Well Anton....you need to post up a pic. Let us see what you are talking about. You can do the shave thing bro....sure everyone feels like they have lower self confidence at first...but trust us when we tell you that you will gain loads of confidence once you shave it. Just read up some more from the post in here. Hey you will do it when you are ready. Just do it for yourself..not for the guy or chick across the street. It has been about 7 months for me and I still to this day get negative thoughts from people...but you know what I tell them? Its my head...and its because I can. Its all your choice bro. I would suggest giving it a shot...do the 30 day trial period and then if you dotn like it...by all means bro...grow it back. Its not like you dont have a choice. If you are slowly going bald by nature....and you are worried about your egg shaped head, what you gonna do when it happens to you naturally? Bro we are here for ya...always post up any questions or concerns that you may have...we will answer to the best of our ability. Hang in there, you can be a real trooper.

Welcome Anthony!
You know all this is such a huge burden on dudes, most people don't understand...
but dude...
embrace your look, shave your head clean bro, make it look like YOUR choice...
you may find it actually evens the 'freakyness" out ;)
Go for it and good luck!
-
Welcome Anthony!
First post a pic. Let us see what ypu talk about. Each skull has his own shape.
You can go an easier way - take a clipper and go step for step; each week a little shorter and then #1 and next week shave. If you don't like it, no problem. It's hair, it will regrow.
Good luck!

Hey Anthony, welcome to SBG. :)
-
ok, i've attached a picture :-[
its not a very good quality one (crappy webcam) but u can see were my hair has received and the sad excuse for a fringe at the front. My hairs still pretty thick towards the back but at the front its now getting really bad. a gust of wind and im screwed lol.
hopefully none of you have widescreen monitors as my head will look even bigger lol.
p.s im re-wallpapering my room at the moment which is why it looks a weird curry yellow colour. lol
-
Welcome Anthony, gotta go with joergHH. If you're not comfortable scrapin the noggin clean, then just keep clipping it shorter and shorter.
-
DUDE...your head is a perfect head to go sly.....do it....why not...hell i would give it a go...
-
i really don't even think i could shave it. i care too much about wot people think about me. i wud be destroyed in work as well. its not like i could get it over with in a day, i work in a big office with like 350 people so i can go days without seein someone i know. so i'd have like a week of "wot the fook have you done to your head" and "thats looks fricken terrible" lol.
I've had nightmares about poeples reactions to it. plus i look about 13 lol, so it just looks weird .
-
You have the perfect head for shaving. I don't have a perfetly round head either. Take it slow and in stages like a lot of guys do. Just buzz it shorter and shorter until you get to the razor.
That gives people you know time to get used to it. let us know if you need any help or support. This is a great group of people on here and we'll get you through it no matter what you choose. Be yourself though. My wife was shocked at first, but now she loves it.
-
You are stressing too much bro. What you need is a Slybaldguy intervention....lol. You need to hang with us for a while. Let us help boost your confidence. Just hang with us for a while ok. There will come a time where you will just finally say to hell with it...its my head, I will do what I want with it. Just take it in baby steps bro. If really deep down in side you want to shave it....hanging out here...we will help bring that to reality. Promise you that bro.
Take care..and keep on posting and keep us informed OK
-
thanks for the help and advice guys. it actually feels abit like a weight being lifted off my shoulders being able to tell someone else about it. instead of just going over and over it in my head. so thanks for that O0. i'll keep on posting and update you with photos if i can build up enough courage to do it.
-
Ok so were is the freakishness?
From the profile I say you look a bit like Elijah Wood...
the dude would look good bald, he looked fine buzzed..
You're too hard on yourself...
if you really want to try the slick bald head dude...NOTHING like it once you do it! O0
-
O0 Dear Anthony: Take heart! And buck up. Your head is just fine and will look amazingly good clean shaven. Just say no to your fears, and do it!. Godspeed, Professor Melon
-
Anton...we need to toughin you up man.......just like Prof. said...just learn to say no to your fears.
-
Welcome Anton.
It is always difficult to take the plunge into something that will drastically change the way you look and cause people to notice and comment... especially when it is calling attention to what you are most self conscious about, your head.
I guess you would rather go un-noticed and blend in than be noticed for being bald, right?
Yeah, well that is pretty much the same struggle many here have had. I am not going to say its no big deal but from where I am standing, it isnt. From where you are standing it is. I have seen both sides, your side and the sly side and my presence at this site is enough to tell you where I stand on the issue.
Trust me and my sly brothers when we say your head looks fine and shaving off your hair will rid you of this complex you are carrying around with you.
You just got to put on some music, get pumped up emotionally and let her rip.
After all at least then you will know if it is for you and if it isnt you can grow it back to where it is now in about a month (but you need to allow at least 30 days to get the feel of it).
If you dont do it, plan on the obsession with your looks and loss of hair to dominate your life more and more...
I hate to see another man cheating himself out of the life he should be leading because he is stuck obsessing over a problem that can be gone in a few strokes of a razor.
Free yourself, you will be glad you at least TRIED it...
-
I guess you would rather go un-noticed and blend in than be noticed for being bald, right?
ye thats right. more than the actual shaving process itself, im more worried about peoples opinions of it.
I would love to just not care and do it cause i want to. but then i just keep getting these mental pictures of everyones reactions to it and it kinda puts me off.
-
Welcome Anton. Great to have you with us. From the pic you posted and with your hair short already, I don't see any problem with the shape of your head. As far as being concerned about the comments or opinions of others, if you check out the various posts here from other sly guys, you will see that we have all had concerns and worries before shaving, but once done it was received as pretty much a non-event by others. Besides, if you already hate the way it looks now, what have you got to lose? Take it down, it will only take a short time to grow back if you don't like it, but I don't see that happening.
-
Well you've admitted you're thinking about it, that's a step in the right direction. Now answer this question honestly, when was the last time someone said that they really liked, or even just liked your hair? My very confident guess is NEVER. Now the next steps are easy, get the clipper, buzz to 1/8" for a week. You're going to get comments, and lots of them aren't going to be, What did you do that for?, they're going to say "Cool" or nothing at all. Having experienced that, cllip to 0, lather shave. In the following 30 days, you're going to get so many compliments, "Makes your face look stronger" even people saying, "I didn't realize you were that tall!" Believe the guys, that's what happens, it's amazing. Quit beating youself up, buzz, then shave. The worst is that you can always grow what's left now back, and ultimately nature will finish the job you should do yourself.

Well had others in this world allowed others opinions to dictate their actions, we would never have had Elvis, the automobile or flight.
Life is an adventure man, get out there and be a part of it.

Anton, Almost every guy on this forum has been where you are right now. I know for myself, personally, I stewed over what to do for serveral years and that knawing feeling that I had to do something would not go away. I can tell you, (as well as every other guy here) that I had the same fears that you're having. I can also tell you that it really is an over-exagerated fear that is much bigger in your mind than in reality. I remember being shocked that nobody seemed to really notice or even say anything at all. I got all most comments when I started buzzing down to a #1 than when I finally shaved.
You'll hear it said over and over again by everyone else here, I wish I had done it sooner and saved myself all the pressure and agony of those years I was on the fence and wanted to do it, but didn't have the b*lls to do it. I'm just glad those days are over and I can get on with my life.
You can do the same. It just takes a small step of faith. JUST DO IT!!!!
-
when was the last time someone said that they really liked, or even just liked your hair? My very confident guess is NEVER.
ur right, i've never had a compliment about my hair.
i think im just going to have to go for it then ain't i. and like most of u said it will just grow back to the receding state its at now if i really hate it anyway so i might aswell give it ago. plus i'd really like to be able to go out when its windy or rainin without worrying about my hair.

Slyly said, Slyly said. Get your weapon of choice, lather up and LIVE.

Anthony,
You're no fool, cause the reason your here is that you wanna be cool!
This is positive change and that's a good thing.
You're over-thinking and over-stressing about this. :/O
Now, you listen to the other Anthony here, that's me!
The guys are giving you the best advice and it's free.
You'll R-O-C-K the sly bald head. O:O
Cheers,
Anthony
-
Anton,
Welcome. You've received some good advice; I can't add much. From your picture, I don't see where you are having issues. You look like you have a full head of hair to me. Is there something I'm not seeing? I'll trade your hair and head shape in a heart beat. I think you are too hard on yourself. I have to agree with the gents here. Your head is perfect for shaving if you decide to do it. Some guys, including me, gradually buzzed shorter and shorter to see how it would look. That's a safe way to try it before finally taking a blade to it. Good luck, and keep asking questions if you have them.

Anton, these guys are 100% right. Do it for yourself and not for anyone else. These guys walked me through it too less than a month ago. Your hair loss and mine was similar in pattern. I had been running a #1 buzz for ages and had a different obsession of running my finger and thumb up my head to see how far back it was (seems very pathetic now). Since I've shaved mine it's liberating, scarey at first but awesome after that. Being over 6 foot and sly turns heads when you walk in the room, slyness (confidence and look) makes the ladies eyes linger longer than before.
If your too nervous about work, buzz it down tight first. Plus start looking for shaved dudes in your work setting. Noticed alot of them where I'm at. Really it's not a big deal at all, the fence between where your at and us just seems like a mountain right now. 3 days later you'll laugh about being so scared. Trust me O0
-
Give it a try Anton ... It's only hair. Nothing ventured, nothing gained
-
OK everyone....if we dont get Anton to shave his head in the next few days...im gonna grow my hair back out.
And you dont want me to do that Anton....trust me. Things could get ugly.

Anton, listen to these guys. I lurked here for a loooong time before I finally made the decision. Just compare their attitudes and outlook on life to those people in other boards that are constantly thinking about their hair loss.
I understand that the initial step is the hardest since it IS a pretty big deal for you at this point and you are concerned about what others think and whatnot. But put your dome in the hands of these guys, they know what they are talking about and let them guide you to the promised land of freedom O0

LAUGH all you want but how many of you here can actually say you regularly go to the same dressing room as the Vegas showgirls!?? 8)

Hey Anton, sorry I missed this post somehow. But here I am!
First go to the before and after pics and check my transformation pic..and look at my profile pic.
Heres the link to make it easy http://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=152
Now, The reason you think your head is egg shaped is because of the receeding hairline and the hair you have left is making your head look bigger..... but trust everyone here who says its not. The members grow due to the honesty on this site, its kinda like a help line without a 800 number.
Look at the fact that your hair is controlling your life, its like a drug addiction in a strange way. The only way to live again is to kick the habit, learn how it feels to lift this burden.
I can tell you I stand in the wind and sometimes raise my arms like I am a airplane and feel it wrap around my body, like I use to when I was six! I walk in the rain while others frantically race past me trying to get to their vehicles, and sometimes stop and look to the sky just the feel the drops run across my slick head.
I am more free than people with hair...
It is one of the hardest decisions you will make at this time, but later you won't understand why it was so difficult!
-
ummmmm i stood next to a vegas show girl last year and put my hand on her bewbie, but it was quickly knocked away.......lol
-
Champs got the right idea......no more worryin about getting your hair wet. Yes it even feels good when you walk outside in teh winter time and you have snow flakes on your dome. Im telling ya...the first time you feel a snow flake fall on your head...its a feelign you will never forget.............kinda tingley at first....then it melts....and turns into a rain drop.
-
Anton, welcome to the site! Sorry, I've been away for a couple of days, but these guys have all given you some great advice!
-
Hi, Anton: welcome to SBG's. What the guys have said already is pretty much what i would say too. Your head looks a good shape to me, and you don't seem to be receding all that much: about as much as I was when I first went sly.
Its down to you, but I would seriously consider shaving it off and seein how you like it. Most guys here tried it and never went back to havin hair: that's one hell of a testamony to begin with.
Secondly, you say you have no confidence with the hair you've got now: you keep lookin in mirrors to see if its okay, and are worried about exposing your receding bits. If you shave it off you might still feel the same way until you get used to your new sly look, but you WILL get used to it, and you won't be constantly worrying about covering up. Your confidence will grow once you stop worrying about your hair and how it looks. You'll be looking in mirrors for a different reason then: to see how COOL and SMOOOOTH you look. 8)
If you have no confidence with the hair you have, and you're scared of what people might think after you shave it, what have you got to lose? Nothing: except your hair. But you'll gain A LOT, trust me.
Go for it. You have a lot of support here, bro.
Best wishes, whatever you decide. O0

Anton...look at it this way. There may very well be a ton of people making silent remarks on your hair at this moment....and you dont even know it. Just the same with shaving it off. Those who make remarks to you will..those who dont..wont say a word. It has been 7 months for me and I just ran into one of my great aunts..she will be 82 next month and she has seen me twice since I have shaved it and I still get the question...Why did you go off and do that for ..she asks....I just looked at her and said Aunt Jean..its cause I love you. LOL...she just smiled and says...I always liked you......now i know why. LOL
-
Anton-I know exactly what you mean. What length is your hair at the moment?
My hair has receeded since I was 15/16, started to get thin just over a year ago, it took me 4 months or so to buzz it, then I let it grow back and realised how rubbish it looked, then I buzzed it shorter and shorter until now when its a #2 and let me tell you, the girls LOVE it.
Im not a pretty boy, I would describe myself as average but when I walk in somewhere I get looks, when I started my job I got most of the girls talking to me on my first day in the lunch room and they didnt know who the other new guy was but knew my name and now Ive got a very nice girl after me.
Ontop of this, my mates say it looks tons better than when I ever had longish hair - I cant disagree with them.
This isnt to big myself up, its to encourage you with how things have improved for me
champ007- Man, I didnt realise who you were until I saw your transformation pictures, I remember when you first posted that you were going to shave and then when you did, etc. Still looks awesome, but really didnt recognise you.

Yea, when I went to get the link I saw my previous self and shuddered. Its amazing how something so simple can make such a huge difference in your life, even your health. I feel more healthy than a year ago, and I think alot of that has to do with the freedom to just go now without thinking about my looks....
So when is the final countdown coming for you???
-
I feel more healthy than a year ago
You look a lot healthier and a lot better in yourself.
So when is the final countdown coming for you???
It seems to be getting closer and closer! Im sure soon I will have it down to a #1

Welcome to the SBG site anton, good to have you with us. I know it's late and I can only echo what all the other bro's have said. Get it done and freedom awaits you!
Hopefully by now you have already done the deed.
Good luck! O0
