Hi Guys,
I have been more of an observer over recent months than a poster, but nonetheless i log onto this site almost daily and enjoy reading the inane banter, but more than anything the moral support that is offered to those who are worried about their impending slydom. That said, I think recently there has been an even higher frequency than normal of people posting, worrying that the opposite sex wont find them attractive, now they are losing their hair and essentially that somehow their stock decreases as a consequence in all walks of life. I have also read a number of threads about people losing their hair early and I can confidently say that i fall firmly in that category, approaching 30 and couldnt grow a good coverage on the top of my head if i wanted to, so it has been noticeable since my early 20's. I can also associate with the worries that people experience, as i have gone through them all myself and still on occasion wish i had hair!!
That said, a few observations:
- Putting to one side the moral support offered by people on here, let's look at the members of this Site as a sample. This site isnt called confident bald guys, and so it is fair to assume that we have a fair cross section of personalities (with some extremes!!). But, from just reading posts the following is pretty clear:
- Plenty of bald guys have wives, or meaningful other halves, just look at Tyler, the founder of this site, he has a beautiful wife and a beautiful daughter. I am guessing T's hair didnt fall out in the last nine months and so Mrs T knew that she is spending the rest of her life with someone who doesnt have hair.
- Plenty of guys on here met their partners when they had no or little hair. I include myself in this, my other half now says she finds it weird to look at me with pictures with hair and doesnt like them! By coincidence I also have a new and beautiful daughter, again highlighting my other half not having any issues with my sly bonce!
- This site is called Sly Bald Guys, not Sly Bald Guys and People Who Like Them, yet over the relatively short time i have been posting, I have seen the likes of Magmababe, Hotcajun and others post on here as women with no problems at all with men's slyness.
I guess what i am trying to say is that going bald is clearly a traumatic experience for many. I personally am on the fence as to whether or not I would prefer to have hair now or not, but equally, the guy who is overweight probably wishes he could lose a few pounds, the woman with the massive nose probably wishes it was a little smaller, the short guy wants to be taller and the woman wth freckles wishes she had a porcelain complexion. We have what we are dealt and whilst baldness is sometimes heralded as a negative and sometimes premature sign of ageing, this is driven by a multi billion pound industry designed to prey on people's insecurity. Not sure what the equivalent is in the US, but over here we have Weight Watchers where overweight people go every week, pay £5.00 to stand on some scales so some woman can tell them their weight - crazy, but another sign of how the media and clever marketing makes us believe we are somehow not the norm.
I just wonder how many norms there actually are out there?? I suspect not very many.
PS - Sorry about that incoherent waffle, just wanted to get that off my chest!

Andre......you asking him to shave his chest too??? LOL.........sorry....just thought it was funny....LOL

Wise words, Argyle. By the way, your dome is quite enviable to many; I don't see a lick of shadow, something most of us strive for and can't always have.

Hey Stu, I think Argyle's lack of shadow on his sly dome is due to the fact that the UK doesn't get any sun. Can't have a shadow without sun. :*))
Sorry Argyle, couldn't resist.

Seriously though, the post is right on the money, good job.
For the record my wife or the past 274 lay-days never met me with hair on my head.

Quality, not quantity :)

Awesome post Argyle!

Mmmmm shaved chest, I think not, I think there is far too much competition for the shower to have that amount of time in there! Besides, what would my 7 month old daughter use to inflict pain on her dad, i am sure she thinks if she pulls hard enough something exciting will happen.
As for the shadow, to be honest i think i have a pretty strong shadow just not one that encroaches on the top of my head, i have quite a narrow head that is a bit pointy at the top so from that angle a shadow is non existent. Also when that photo was taken it was quite dark so the flash eliminated the shadow.
That said i take your point about the UK weather. Last night it sounded like the walls were going to blow in with hale stones lashing against the window. This year has been disastrous for sun, with floods twice and pretty much two months of constant rain.

OH ALRIGHT! You can keep your chest hairs....for your daughter....but you gotta shave your legs! LOL
