I would first like to say a big thank you to everyone here. Even though I have only been lurking all this time, reading the testimonies, advice, and seeing the general attitude of everyone involved in this community has encouraged me to go where so many hesitate to go.
Like a good portion of you I suffered from MPB at some point in my life. this would not be such an issue if extended family members did not make such a big deal about it. I am of Philippine origin and a balding man there much less my family is a very rare sight indeed. Going back home after a twelve year absence was wonderful but a constant barrage of comments about one's hairline is enough to bother me and I would say most people.
I looked into transplants, meds, and other solutions and even contemplated them, but I also gave head shaving a try. I generally received positive comments from both routes but the one thing that swayed me was this forum. I lurked at both this place and other places where people try and find a "treatment" for their condition and even though I saw some nice people in both places one thing stood out the most.
People here are genuinely happier! People there even though they received a great hair transplant that looks undetectable or got amazing results from meds were generally paranoid, insecure that something was showing or wanted much more that their time was consumed by the whole thing.
I sometimes still miss the hair that I once had but one thing is for sure. I will not be a slave to this thing and I will free up my time for more productive thoughts rather than waste my time with the Oh woe is me attitude that generally afflict men who lose their hair and choose to try and get it all back.
I somehow already knew the choice I had to make but you guys convinced me the most. If I had to choose a path where I had hair and was constantly worrying about it or had none at all and be free... well I guess most of you know the path one has to take O0
Once again thanks to all and I look forward to joining a great group of people!
P.S I am aware that I look like I have a bouquet of flowers growing out of my hair in my pic but I was too lazy to take another one. Besides, I thought it looked funny in a twisted sort of way :*))

Welcome Phil!
Nice opening story! You really have embraced the meaning SLY already and the power a shaved head can have!
Dude, you look great bald, probably way better than with hair...
Keep it shinin' brutha! O0

Welcome Phil and congrats on the right decision.
You wear the look well, and the pic is awesome with the flowers!! ;D
As Andre stated you have the Sly down, now just enjoy the headrubs!! O0

Welcome to SBG Phil.
Nice introduction ... I like the way you referred to your MBP in past tense - "Like a good portion of you I suffered from MPB at some point in my life." After shaving your head clean, your hair loss issues are behind you.
It looks great !!!

Phil Man, like so many of my Filipino buddies, you have a great shaped head for going the Sly route. I'm glad you made the decision you did because, as you pointed out, most of the time the woes after trying to get your hair back can be as bad as the agony of losing your hair.
Welcome!

Hey Phil, nice look, and welcome abroad

Lookin like a natural! Welcome!
-
Phil, what an awesome story behind your decision to shave slick mate! Now you can rest assured that your life will be changed for the better with your new found look.
Welcome to the forum.

welcome phil. looks cool bro.

Great story!
It makes me so happy to hear people leave the hangups of MPB behind them and learn to embrace life as they are.
You are truly Sly!

Welcome Phil

Awesome story Phil. I have a bud that fits that story perfectly. I've been hounding him to go to a #1 cut for over a year. Well he finally pulled the trigger and went clear to sly, finally caught up with him to congratulate on doing it the other day. And reinforced that he needs to keep it sly because it looked great compared to the comb over. Really hoping he stays sly like it sounds as if you are going to do.
Gonna refer him to this site too, hopefully he'll show up and learn how easy it really is and maybe even gain some pointers from you.
Again welcome aboard

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I just love the positive atmosphere this place provides and everyone here just seems to love life and want to live it to the fullest. Just as it should be :)
I am a bit concerned however. I do work in a bank and the whole suit tie combo with the bald head... kinda intimidates some people for some reason. Some customers today didn't want to mess with me even if I was trying to help :/O
Anywho its just a minor drawback. I'm sure they'll get to see that I'm not like a hit man with the whole ensemble but just some friendly dude.
Once again thanks for the extremely warm welcome and I'll be glad to help others here just as much as reading these forums have helped me O0

Really I wouldn't worry...could just be the few that you dealt with...
plus, dude a bald head and a suit...very sharp and professional..
and I'm sure you're a nice cordial dude to all your customers! O0
Keep it shinin' bro...I would go to YOUR line for sure! O0

Ten years ago I might have been concerned about the bald dome in a professional environment. Hell, ten years ago I was concerned about it. But not today. Stand outside any large office building at lunchtime or at the end of the working day and you'll see plenty of sly guys in suits coming and going.
-
I suppose you guys are right. I do see a lot of guys in suits and domes now that I look at it. Mind you I'm probably one of the younger ones in that crowd.
On the flip side I've received a lot of cool and clean comments from the female customers. Even the old grannies seem to like the look and I would have thought that they would have felt more threatened by it.

Welcome Phil!

WELCOME HOME Phil, ya think im kidding about being "home" ? well you now have a WHOLE bunch of brothers and a few SISTERS , and youll be on here so often itll seem like your home , Theres an awful lot of knowledge out here to be tapped into and a lot of it may even change a lil because of varing locations , what works in one region may or may NOT work for you ! but welcome "home" and enjoy the ride !
-
It took me 15 years to take the SLY plunge and I have not nor will not go BACK!!!!!!!!!!
good call Phil!!!

Yea but don't you feel like a badass wearing a suit while sly? I know I do.
-
Had the same concerns Phil. I work in a very professional environment also and was concerned that sly and a goat might not go over well. I've had many comments from the big boss down saying it looks very professional and I carry the look very well.
For New Years I sported the tux and top hat sly. Don't think I've ever seen so many heads turn. O0 Dressed to the 9's and sly is a killer look.

Definitely, I have seen the light and will now cherish using the sly and suit combo O0 O0

Welcome to SBG's Phil Man. Glad you decided to take control yourself and just do it.
I agree with Marz, and it's such a feeling of empowerment and I just can't understand how some guys would rather go through what you described in your intro. I know I never would have.
As far as feeling like a thug, that will also pass, you just have to relax and let your natural cordial personality come through. In time you'll find things will just become easier, and you will be more comfortable with yourself and the new you.
Congrats again on grabbing the bull by the horns! O0
Keep us posted on your progress and enjoy your new found "slyness".
Joe
