It's kind of a slow week around my office. Alot of folks are gone and others are out of the office. This time of the year alot of our clients send us the Christmas food gift packs. So the office is just loaded down with food. Makes it really hard to keep on any type of regulated eating plan or even hard to just control your intake. We have lots of those meat and cheese packs and lots of candy. Luckily for me we just received a "Harry and David" gift pack loaded down with some of the freshest fruit you have ever tasted. I'll try to stick with snacking on the fruit, for now anyway.
So what about you. Do you find yourself in the same situation. And is anyone else trying to control their diet this time of the year, or has everyone given it up and just waiting for the New Years' resolutions to kick in.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of my SLY friends.

I'm trying to keep my diet more or less under control. I am planning on eating a few things here and there that I normally don't but just not in excess. I've been away from most of the unhealthy stuff for so long I don't really crave it much anymore. Most things are way sweeter than I remembered and a little bit keeps me satisfied.
-
My downfall is the snacks at Christmas parties, baked brie is enough for me to forget all manners and just shovel it in. The meatballs, the spinach triangles, the crabdip, my God, I've got to loosen my belt just thinking about it. And if someone has a good eggnog receipe w/ lots of nog, I'm toasted. I really try, but just a few spiced pecans, and my will power goes out the window, or should I say up the chimney it goes. I'm going to try to resist, but here in New Orleans, it's not New Year's Day for resolutions, we still have to get through Carnival Season, Mardi Gras P@^, Popeye's Fried Chicken, a purple green and gold donut and an Abita or milk punch `Dr!n# `Dr!n# `Dr!n# for breakfast, yet. Come Ash Wednesday, I'm going to get strict.

Popeyes fried chicken is a real weak point for me, also. There's one a couple of miles from my office. I used to visit there, at least once a week. I'm now trying to restrict it to less often than that. Just thinking about it makes me hungry.

If anyone finds that their willpower tends to wane at parties, one thing you can do is eat a snack just before you leave home for the party, to take the edge off your hungry. It's a lot easier to resist temptation if you aren't famished.

That is truly sage advice, but I'm weak and when cocktail snacks are so damn tasty, my will power is shot. I try, but really, baked oysters, how can one or two affect you? You see, it's a slippery slope and I go down fast.

Dude I can wipe out one of those Hickory Farm gift packs in a day by myself.

I don't think it's realistic to plan on denying yourself something you enjoy so much during the holiday season. Like you said, one or two won't affect you. And three or four won't affect you much and the little bit they do affect you will be well worth the pleasure you'll get from eating them. You have to break the diet once in a while. It makes it easier to be good the rest of the time if you know you can have the occasional treat. That's the whole concept behind "cheating days".
Still, eating a healthy snack before a party can help prevent you from going on a total binge. At least, that's what works for me.

It takes enormous self control to work in a High School at this time of year. Every department has its own tempting spread laid out. You could literally eat your way throughout the school. Best bet is usually the Health and PE department where healthy choices are the norm.

Looking around my desk here....I have 5 tins full of cookies. 2 packages of mini cup cakes, miniature reese cups, some dog chow, oranges, apples and nuts and a hot choc. maker staring at me as I sit here. Hmmmmmm that would be OK if this was a big office, but im the only one here during the day. I will say though...only one tin has been opened....but almost gone....the cup cakes havent even been touched....the reese cups...they are in easy reach...dog chow...ehhh you can have it....oranges are really good, Hot choc.....too much work to make...so it will sit there.
Merry Christmas.....Happy New Year!

I only do it during Carnival Season, from Twelfth Night to Mardi Gras, but OH, it is so good, spicy thighs, jalepeno peppers, fried onion rings, red beans and rice--there goes my belt another notch. I try to limit beer to Carnival too and I try to stick to Abita Amber so I don't waist too many calories on substandard brew. I really am going to get strict for Ash Wednesday, but then friends don't let friends overdo Lent.

WOOOSHHHH ..man was that a trip and a half. I just returned from the UPS depot. I dropped off 2 large boxes full off goodies to Rick's house and as well to Warhawks...........

Speaking of food. Client dropped off a plate of cookies yesterday. One of our vendors always sends a gift basket with chips and salsa. Had another vendor bring in the danish butter cookies. Banana Nut Bread from another client. It's very hard to behave around this time of year. That's why I decided to modify my diet after the new year.
