Title: Who is NOT celebrating Christmas?
Post by: Timmay on December 17, 2007, 01:57:58 PM
Here is a little twist on things.  I myself..celebrate Christmas along with my family.  But there are so many different religions out there.  Do we have anyone in here who does not celebrate Christmas?  This isnt to slam or to just point out those who dont...but was just curious.
Or is there anyone in here who just isnt going to be celebrating christmas because of other underlying circumstances?

Some sort of Solstice celebration?

if i am not mistaken: yule is the peagen celebration of the winter solstice. when christianity was in it's infancy they chose dec. 25 to celebrate CHRISTmas cause it was near the time of yule. thus helping to convert peagans to christianity. i know there is more to the story but that is the breif rundown.

Ahh, like so many other things they did to demonize paganism and convert the Pagens.

AS FAR AS CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS ? BAH F***N HUMBUG ! CHRISTMAS is not what it used to be , instead of a christmas tree, we should decorate a CASH REGESTER , it seems like thats thats what its evolved into

Porky, in once sense I agree with you seeing that I've worked in retail most of the last 12 years and as someone who gets fed up seeing how much people selfishly spend it can be nauseating.  However, not to get too religious or anything, but if you step back and think about it, Christmas is truly a magical season and I for one would enjoy seeing people be nicer to one another and spend more quality time with their friends and families more than just one two-week period each year.

It still amazes me that people get offended when we tell them that we'll be closed on Christmas Day (I work for the grocery chain Kroger).  Kroger and many other 24-7 retailers close 1 day a year - Christmas Day - and for that I'm appreciative.  People who work in retail work very hard for very low pay and have to endure a lot of nasty attitudes, but at least during Christmastime, people tend to be less irritable and more thankful of what they have

WELL SCOTT, it would be nice if i only worked one job ,BUT>> in this econmy I'm forced to work 1 full time and 1 part. The part time one is NORMALLY a weekends only so  normally i only work boukou hours THEN. But because of the HOLIDAY sales season Im working 14 days straight, 19 hours a day one job is 10a/9p then i get a small break and its 11p/7a ! IT sure would be nice if during the holidays , the retail public were just a LIL nicer , BUT theyre under pressure to buy for umpteen people on a smaller budget than LAST year trying to buy a 100$ item for 65$ and cant understand WHY you cant do it "JUST FOR ME" and then my night job is a PUBLIC SERVICE job working for a towtruck service!  which is a 24/7/365 day job.  WE dont get snow days or holidays or laborday, memorialday   when peoples vehicles break down or RUN OUT OF GAS  they want service, like DOMINOES within 30 minutes!  or well get someone who calls road service at 3am in a BLIZZARD  and their car is buried behind the house in THE SNOW (hasent been moved in 9 months/ no plates ) been there SOLONG the tires are in the ground AND ALL 4 FLAT , and then they GET PISSED when u tell them that road service wont cover it  .and while you aare trying to BE PATIENT AND POLITE with jerko , some elderly person who REALLY IS broke down has to wait in the cold because their car wont start after THEYVE come out of work and everybody drove off and left them in the cold LIFE is so JOYOUS around the HOLIDAYS

I'm totally with Scott on this.. christmas is a magical time of year, don't care what anyone says  :)

IMHO, don't sit there and dwell on what you don't have and feel sorry for yourself, but think of what you do have and be thankful for what you've got.
Got no sympathy for those who sit there and pity themselves, if there's something about your life that you don't like, go ahead and change it.

My Christmas is gonna be really strange this year... my kids are spending Christmas with their Dad and his family.
I've never spent Christmas apart from my children before.

So what do you have planned for the big day, then?
