Christmas is a nice time to spend with friends and family, BUT -- it's a pain in the ass. Between traffic jams everywhere I go ... and long lines everywhere I go .... can't even go to the home depot to pick up a tool I need in a pinch w/o waiting in a long line.
Spent last weekend hauling out a million lights and cheesey lawn ornamants. The front of our house looks like friggin coney island now.
Then today, spent the afternoon trudging around in the mud, getting a tree. Finally cut one, brought it home, mount it on my stand, and that cracked. Replaced mine last year and the year before.
My wife is a mad lady planning for the Xmas eve dinner we're doing for her family (all 26+ of them).
Yes, I'm having a Christmas meltdown today. Maybe it's time for a few beers.

I'm back in the Christmas spirit now. My wife and I went out for some ribs and beer, and that calmed the beast.
Actually, we got a giant tree today and after finally getting it inside and on the (new) stand, it looks great. Sorry for the grinch moment, guys ....

i would answer, but i have to go hang some stupid little lights up and create more work for myself later. i really hate doing things half-assed and don't have the lights or money to do it up like i would want to. so what the hell is the point?

I thought I was the only one that thought Christmas was a pain in the rear. I finally submitted and put up our tree Saturday. Mostly for the kids, they love dedcorating it. I opened a bottle of wine and the tree and the bottle were done at the same time. Works wonders for my attitude!
I refuse to hang lights on the house or put any silly reindeer in my yard though. I draw the line with that. I enjoy Chirstmas low key and centered on what it is truly about. Christmas is out of control and needs to be refocused on what it is truly about!

Putting the tree up, keeping it watered, and it used to be sap in the hair going under the thing to water it (much easier Sly), cleaning up needles, keeping the damn dog from pulling it down, taking it down putting all the Cr_p away, lugging it to the curbside to be recycled for building up wetlands. It makes the menorah a very good idea, our Jewish brothers have it right, just a few candles and some potato pancakes. Damn good idea.

Was at the mall 45 minutes and was ready to kill somebody especially when I went with my wife into bath and body works!!!

Sure Christmas can be a pain, but once I put up the house lights and the tree, I have been in the holiday spirit. You have two choices at the holidays, get into it or fight it the whole way.

I only wish we could get a fake tree. We have a giant real one that requires watering 3 times a day, and guess who gets to do it? Yeah, grinch-boy. D@^^
I've not been to the mall and refuse to go (this time of year). All that driving around for a parking place and long lines out the door. No thanks... I'm buying everything online this year.

I'm finishing up my exams this coming Friday and I'll be home Sunday to help dad put up the Christmas lights. I get to look forward to risking my life 15 feet up in the air on a 20 year old ladder. Wish me luck! !i#t

Here are my tips for a hassle free christmas.
1- Shop at Walmart between 1 thru 5am as it get closer to christmas. There is almost never a line, even on Dec. 24th.
2- If you must go to the mall, hit it at opening time or about 1 hour before they lock the doors, know what you want and where to get it.... even call a day before and make sure they have it in stock.
3- If your kids are old enough, get them involved. My son and I did a project on plywood that we traced, cut-out and put on top of the house. Now every year he totes it up on the house and I help set it in place, then I say "boy some lights on the house sure would look good with that", and I "let" him hit the small eves of the house while I "slowly" take care of the high parts.
4- Put the tree in the stand outside (if a real tree) while your son/daughter/wife retrieves the lights and ornaments out the attic, then string the lights on the tree outside. Carry the tree in and set in place and say "hey, can you start putting the ornaments on while I get something to drink". After you fix your "alcoholic beverage, you stand in the kitchen for a few minutes shuffling through the cabinets (while downing that drink), then fix another and go to the shed/garage/car or anywhere far from the tree area with drink in hand. When you return after about 45 minutes and they say, where did you go, were ready to put the star on top, you just give the blank look and say, I have been looking for the candy canes to put on the tree, have you seen them?
These are tried and tested by yours truly and never gets old!!

The graphic is funny but you should hear the comments I get about it on my roof. My neighbors have already asked when I was going to put it up this year, they seemed upset when I told them I wasn't going to be home so my son said he didn't see a reason to put it up. The spots I use on it light up the trees in the woods behind the house.... thought a plane was landing on my roof one night last year `Dr!v

I guess I am the odd man out in this conversation. I actually enjoy Christmas. When I go to the mall with the Mrs., I just sit out in the main area and watch people stressing over everything. I'm a pretty low key guy by nature so I don't get too stressed. In fact, my secretary asked me this morning if I had finished my shopping. I told her that would have required me to get started. I guess I had better head to the mall. O:O

You are NOT alone Steve. I too really enjoy Christmas and especially all it represents. Like Charlie Brown I refuse to let the commercialism of the modern world destroy that great feeling. I love to see the look on little kids faces, the smile on the face of an adult for whom you have planned and purchased the perfect gift. Like so much in life, what you get out of Christmas is what you are willing to put into it.
