i really ain't fond of typical holiday fare. wanna do something different this year.
-
Anything with coconut, I cant stand the stuff but it sure makes deserts looks great. It sucks looking at chocolate rolled in coconut and knowing that even though it looks delicious it will make me want to yak if I eat it.
-
Don't like the fruitcakes either or the cranberries...
-
Warhawk,
Have you ever had real home made fruitcake? Not the mass produced bricks the stores sell, but made from scratch? Years ago a friend of mine made some. She fermented the fruit herself, and I gotta say, it was good stuff.
You got a problem with that? :x! LOL
-
Mainstream fruitcake makes me wanna puke! :(
-
I used to hate fruitcake, but now I don't mind it so much.
One thing I can't stand is...hmmm...when the food runs out? Hah :D

Old Spice = Old Fart, no more friggin Brute either. If they can't sprig for the good stuff, then put 5 bucks in a card and I'll be happier than a pig in slop. That, and as a kid I noticed the hand me downs were always the crap the original owner never wore themselves. What the hell made them think that I wanted it.
-
Yes HomeMade fruit cake is good....especially when they pour the brandy over it .....mmmmm mmmmm mmmmmm

Well, now you do. I love them, but it has to be from the Collin Street Bakery in Corsicana, TX. Maybe you've never had a good one.

I'm the same way Marz. I also don't like fruitcakes. Though Pburke and Pig are ok guys.
Just kidding bros!

I don't like gifts that cause me to change my routine. One year, I got a mountain bike. Don't get me wrong, it was a very nice bike, but I don't enjoy cycling. Also, I (usually) don't like getting clothes. Now, as you all know I'm an extremely classy dresser :*)) and anything that doesn't meet my exacting standards usually is re-gifted.
Other than that, fire away.

When I was a kid those Hostess Snowballs drove me crazy... seriously how can something that looks so awesome be so tainted.....

I'm with you and Ty on the coconut deal. Nothing sucks like going for some goodies and finding someone "F"ed it up by putting cocnut on it or in it.
-
not a big fan of coconut either. but the wifey makes german chocolate cake from scratch and i can deal with the coconut in the icing. this cake is awesome.
-
I don't eat chocolate: yeah, right, I'm WIERD :/O so you can imagine how friggin pi$$ed off I feel when I see all the stuff f'ed-up with chocolate over Christmas. Nearly every thing has it plastered over it.
Don't eat it cos it gives me migraine: and now I dont even like the smell of it. :XX
Used to get loads of choc stuff when i first gave it up about 15 years ago, and I had to give all the damn stuff away!! >:(

OK, I hate the half dipped cookies that everybrings over during the holidays
(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dufflet.com%2Fimages%2FFreshCollection%2FCookies%2Fim_co_cookie7.jpg&hash=81cb379719a1cb9e4aa8b9d9d90b5fcbe0171ef3)
What are the point of these? One side has a wonderful tasting chocolate suprise and the other taste like you are eating dusty cardboard. I have two bites and throw the rest away. At this point, why not bringer over chocolate chip cookies or even oreos. Don't bring these half-assed cookies, becase it's not my fault that you go to a lazy baker.
(It think this might make the Noner Blog.)

I was just going to say the same thing but you beat me to it. My aunt in England makes wonderful fruitcakes. She usually brings one with her when she comes to visit or makes one for me to take home with me when I go over there. It is not even the same species as the tinned crap we see on this side of the pond.
Homemade fruitcake with almond paste icing and a nice milky cup of PG Tips ... it's like a little bit of heaven. :@`

I have had those and they aren't bad, but still not in the same league as homemade.

I cant really say there is anything ..food wise that I hate recieving. I like COCONUT ( actually when I was in Haiti I found a coconut..broke it open..drank teh milk and ate teh raw coconut....the haitian kids looked at me like i was nuts) Oh well. anyways...those half dipped cookies...watch it...my wife and I make an almond cresant moon shaped cookies that are dipped in choc on one end...and powered sugar on the other. LOL... I will be sure to send some to everyone. Oh yeah and those coconut maccaroons with the cherry in the middle....damn those just melt in your mouth. Coconut cream pie is good too. LOL..I know im jsut rubbin it in here now.....but its fun. BUt as I am sittin here typing I did come up with one thing I hated getting....I use to deliver newspapers when I was younger and I would always get those Lifesaver " BIBLES" ya know that has like 10 rolls of lifesavers in them. Well, I wouldnt ever get the life saver brand...i would always get the off brand. One year I got a watch from one of my customers...But I think the only reason why I got it was because I was always late delivering the paper....cause I would have to play on the tracks....skip rocks across teh pond or play with my friends along the way. What would take normaly an hour would take me 3 hours to finish. WOW where did this post go? damn i really went off on a tangent on this one...Oh well...Here ya go ..you can have it back now! LOL

I don't like homemade baked goods that co-workers try to gift to you this time of year. Keep that stuff to yourself. A couple of my coworkers agree that no good can come out of some of these people's kitchens. We always ditch out on the department potlucks and meet at a decent restaurant.

GOLLY GEE TIMM, you never cease to amaze me your COMPUTER doesent seem to be able to spell "the" or "ate" but use a word like TANGENT and that it spells right who woulda thunk ? anyway , the 2 gifts that i REALLY hate is the one the cop gives you when your out in the crappy slushy weather trying to buy gifts for people that you REALLY dont want to be buying for and really cant afford and youre going to be late for work and you slide under that "orange light" (ya know the halfway between yellow and red) he writes it out and then says "MERRY CHRISTMAS" the other gift is the one you get from that"santa's helper" you picked up at closing time at the bar , ya know the one that takes 4 visits to the DR. and about 200$ in perscription meds, to say goodbye to , oh by the way.... BAH FKN HUMBUG !!!

Just bring on the coconut.......
German Chocolate Cake w/coconut icing!!
Coconut Creme Pie
Coconut Macaroons
Coconut Custard
Lemon Coconut Cheesecake
Almond Joys & Mounds
Pina Coladas :@`

It's weird, I love coconut, but pina colads or anything pina colada flavored makes me literally sick.

I like fruit cake as long as it doesn't have nuts.

Being polish, every one in my family makes kieflies (not sure about the spelling on that). They don't taste bad so much, but they're so damn dry that you need a quart of milk or egg nog just to get one down. Now Kolach is better, uses same filling, but it's alot more moist.
For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, they're both pastries made with a sweet nut filling topped with confectionary sugar.
-
clothes that I didn't ask for, or money simply because no one took the time to find something I like. In certain cases money is ok, but i'd prefer to receive a gift I asked for instead.

I never hate receiving cash. If you get any you don't want for Christmas this year, I'll be happy to relieve you of it. >:D

gift cards kinda bug me. usually to a store i don't shop at, or not really enough to do anything with. makes me think: 1) I am not important enough to you to spend a little time thinking. or 2) you are just too damn lazy to extend some effort on my behalf. if you wanna get me a gift card just give me cash. that can be used anywhere.

That's pretty much why I stopped participating in office Pollyannas. It got to the point where people were just exchanging gift cards and it all seemed really pointless.

That can go either way with me. Walmart and Meijer cards are a lazy cop out. Starbucks, Barnes and Noble, or the game stores card I'm cool with. Those tell me that the person at least considered my interest, but didn't know for sure what to get. Or even the local art supply store(I think salivate and sport wood every time I walk in there)
-
The secret to x-mas shopping is to go out on the crappiest day of the season, like today. I got all my shopping done in an hour and a half. a little ice storm and the Mall, Target, and the roads were dead. No shoving or waiting in lines. O0
-
that is a good point freak. if it is a place that i like, then it shows a little bit of give a shiit about my interest. big box stores are just plain lazy.

yeah. in some ways it's better. I couldn't ask my grandma for the new Slayer DVD, she'd look at the cover and have a stroke. But, with a Sam Goody or Barns and Noble gift card I get what I want and Granny stays outta the old folks home.
What I hated when I was younger was asking for a Video game. You ask for Final Fantasy you get Fantasy Fishing.
-
Ties! Hate em and don't wear em!
Like all foods at Christmas time!

Is Sam Goody still in existence? I haven't seen one of those stores in years.

we had a CHRISTmas thing one year and whoever got my name asked what kind of music i liked. so the wifey told them reggae. they got me some weird ass crap that noone knows. not even remotely something i would listen to. owell it was the thought right?

You Know your right, now that I think about it. Maybe they were replaced or bought out by Fye. EB got bought out by Gamestop.
