Title: Dominant Bald Gene
Post by: steveo on December 03, 2007, 07:57:24 PM: Just joining, but have been bald most of my life. Over 25 years. Every male in our family is bald. We call it the dominant bald gene. My dad was bald. All 4 of his brothers were bald. My 2 sons are bald. You can forget about the hair gene is comes from the wife's side of the family. Not if you have the dominant bald gene. It eats all other hair genes.

Guess I'm kinda like a pioneer. Makes for interesting discussions at family get-to-gethers. The men on my wife's side of the family are balding but none are SLY. Hoping I'll be a good influence.

It's not so much the gene as Darwinian selection taking us all higher and higher. Be nice to your hairy friends, someday their decendents may also join, if they're lucky and pick proper mates!

I think I inherited the gene from my maternal grandfather, whom I loved. He was an artist and carpenter, so being more like him as I age actually provides assurance. I used to resent the inevitability of genetic inheritance, but since you cannot change it, I now fully appreciate the wisdom of chiming with it and celebrating it. I have been sly for a year and two months, during which my old persona has faded into ever more distant memory (I need ancient photos to recall the 'then'). One becomes completely comfortable, newbies, with baldness over time, to the point that one becomes a connoiseur of slickness. Sometimes I shave twice a day to retain maximum smoothness. Of course, a necessary component in this transformation is the support and liking of your significant other. In this, Karen (whose father was bald at an early age and who still remembers him as handsome) has been wonderful. If you're still fighting the losing battle against the inevitable, I suggest you note what so many guys on the forum have reflected on and then just wing it on faith and shave what's left all off. As RazorX has often observed, most guys look better bald. Certainly they look better bald than wearing comb-overs, rugs, or plugs. If you think about the icons in so many venues in our culture you will realize that the bare dome is in. Prof. Melon
