Title: Kettlebells
Post by: Razor X on November 24, 2007, 07:57:04 PM
Has anyone here ever worked out using kettlebells?  The Fox Reality Channel ran a marathon of The Biggest Loser UK over Thanksgiving and that was one of the primary tools used in training the contestants.   Coincidentally, I also saw a segment about them on the local news a few days earlier.  Prior to that I'd never heard of them.  I'm thinking about giving them a try and was wondering if anyone else here knew anything about them.

I don't think I know what they are.

It's sort of like a cannonball with a handle:

Hmm, interesting.  Seems like it would be hard to balance.

You're supposed to stand holding the bell down by your knees and thrust forward and lift it to shoulder level with your arms straight out in front of you.  It's supposed to be a great ab exercise.  I imagine you could do some serious damage to your back if your form wasn't good.

They're a variation of dumbells. I'd rather have a set of power blocks just because of the space they save.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting a set of those when I get my house in order.

Some of the medicine balls that are out now have a handle build into them to get the same effect.

This would give you a far more versatile piece of equipment, kettle balls seem great but kind of illogical for the home gym when you can get just as good of a workout from many other pieces of more versatile equipment.

I agree with Bald Freak, dumbells are also very versatile and the power blocks are great for home use.
