Title: Shooting for 6 pack abs
Post by: JustColorado on November 20, 2007, 07:15:31 AM
For some reason shaving my head gives me an incredible desire to get in shape.  This time I am going for the 6 pack abs.  I know it is the hardest thing to do.  But I wanted them my whole life.   I am sure it will go great with the sly look.

Anybody here able to pull it off?

I have been working on this so hard and still have a bit to go... I can feel them in there but visually my belly is pretty much flat but no definition due to a layer of beer chub.

I think I can do it if I go real hardcore on the diet and drop down to 1000 calories per day and dont eat after 6:30 P.M. but I have yet to increase my commitment.

What can I say, I love beer and food.  O0

I would love to pull that off as well.  I do plan to start a new excercise routine and diet but Thanksgiving/xmas isn't the best time for me.  I think I'll try and start after the new years.

Excellent goal though ... good luck on that  O0

It's funny that you post this because the after affect of shaving your head is to often want to get into shape.  I say go for it!

Check out this blog post by Tim Ferris as it could help you achieve your goal - http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2007/04/06/how-to-lose-20-lbs-of-fat-in-30-days-without-doing-any-exercise/ (http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2007/04/06/how-to-lose-20-lbs-of-fat-in-30-days-without-doing-any-exercise/)

I'm in the same boat Colorado, I want to get cut. I think the most important thing to getting the abs is cutting excess weight, which I'm currently working on.

Good luck!

I've been doing most of the things on this list for a while now.  I've reached the point where I don't have a lot left to lose, but those last few pounds can be really stubborn.  I'm actually ready to give up milk, which I've been unwilling to do up to now.  That should reduce my daily calorie intake a bit more and hopefully will get me off this plateau for once and for all.

I have been down to those last few pounds for a few months.  Giving up drinking was a huge boost and brought me down to size 32 waste.  I haven't worn that size in 15 years.

Today I decided to give up ice cream.  I usually eat at least one ice cream each day.  and really love it but it is for a good cause.  I think I can do it before christmas.

It took me two trys to really stop eating ice cream.  It is one of the last vices I hold on to.  But I wasn't getting any skinnier so I just stopped.

It has been just one week and I definitely lost an inch in my waist.  Actually I can't believe it was so quick.  Now size 32 pants are falling off and I can see 4 boxes.  I think on or around new years I can hit this goal

Don't give up all your favorties completely, it only makes it harder. Try cutting the portions, and getting a little taste of your favorties.

Portion control is the hardest for me. I never know when to stop.

Alcohol is also an issue, so I try for lite beers and diet tonic with Gin.

Another good trick with ice cream is to use a small bowl. I bought 4oz bowls, ramekins, and put just enough in them to give me a taste. It really cuts the fat and calories.

In my experience, I found that eating smaller meals more often is key for me..  I eat the same amount but half as much at a time, twice as often..

This enforces a condition where you're never lacking nutrients (so no need for the body to conserve), yet you're never really full (no surplus means no storing).  Bodyfat is key when it comes to definition of your abs, so make sure you keep your muscle mass, as this will improve your bodyfat to lean mass ratio!

Your mileage may vary, but I find this works for me..

However, I also hit the gym six times a week, four times for mass training, two times for cardio..

Remember to eat clean!!  O0

Well aint no way in hell im gonna post my belly on here

THANK GOD !!

Actually I'm quite proud of my wifey-poo--The Lovely Mrs. Meister (TLMM).

While engaging in uninhibited animalistic intercourse, I noticed she is not far from achieving an abdominal six-pack of her own.  She has achieved the top 4, with the bottom 2 not that far behind......the thing is she'll be 45 next month !!!

She's quite the studdette, I must say O0......Actually a bit leaner tummy than young J.C. here

......Utilizing my baby-step approach, she's been doing those incline sit-ups where ya hold a small medicine ball above yer head, tossing it through a hoop at the top....and grabbing another m.ball for the next rep.   PRETTY INTENSE.

Way to go, J.C. .... don't mean to steal your thunder.   That's a tough feat.

Nice job man! You're well on your way. I'm trying to do the same. I have the top most 2 boxes in, the next 2 starting to come in, and the last two no where in sight  ;D

They say abs starts in the kitchen, so I've significantly changed my diet, which normally consisted of lots of pizza, burgers, and coca cola. Cutting out the coca cola was the toughest for me, I swear I'm addicted to it. But now I usually try and eat plain oatmeal with splenda in the morning, with some grapefruit juice. For lunch I'll have some type of salad with chicken or fish in it. And then for dinner, no carbs, just vegetables and lean meats. I've only recently started this type of change in my diet, and I'm not going to lie and tell you its easy, I definitely find myself craving.

And then I usually run for 30 minutes 4 times a week, I play hockey once a week (which is easily good for a 1000+ calorie burn), and then take two off days where I'll just do pushups/abs.

I think the only thing that will hold me back is going out and drinking. I'm relatively young so I still go out Thurs-Sat night, and that usually involves quite a large amount of beer consumption. If I can cut that back, I should be good. That's sort of the last hurdle I need to overcome.

I know I have trouble with the Gin n Tonics, which tends to add the calories as you said. Moderation is the key to all of it.

I've got the abs just have to find them.

I just love eating too much - I can't shift the soft layer around the middle.
I run in the mornings and train in Kung Fu twice a week.  Unfortunately my job keeps me sat behind a desk all day and some may say that at 42 I'm not the ideal age.
Looks like you're getting there.

My wife has pretty amazing ab definition.  She hits the gym 4 times a week, dances (ballet, disco and other stuff) 3 times a week and runs around after me and the boys so she hasn't got much fat.

If anyone’s got a secret, I’d be up for hearing it!
I work out hard 3-4x a week and have been doing so for 15 years.
Still, I can’t get the elusive six-pack. The best I can get is a little vertical definition.

I would guess that 75% of the men I see regularly at the gym are sly or have less than a full head of hair.  This seems to be a motivating factor for many individuals to get/stay in shape.
Perhaps nature has intended it to be this way. Our species is able to survive better if we remain in good physical condition. Just a thought.

Very uplifting to hear. I have been on a pretty intense fitness regime for the last 2 months. I'm on a calorie controlled diet, I have lost 17 lbs and I am starting to see some small defintion in the upper abdominal area. I usually do around 100 crunches a day and 40-50 push ups plus weight training. I run every night for 1/2 hour. I've cut out alcohol entireley. that was always a big deal for me as I liked to have a beer after work but they are laden with so many calories.

1500 Calories per day.

It has been workin great when combined with exercise and training. My wife is on the same diet and she has lost 12 lbs. She is on 1200 per day.

Thanks JDog! I definitely need to start trying to cut down. I think I need to start writing down what I eat, just to get an idea of how much I am intaking everyday.

Bludger good plan. That is what happened to me. I never cared what I ate and some days I'd probably consume 2000-3000 calories a day. When you arent exercising and burning those calories off, they turn into fat.

For all you guys who want 6 pack abs, its not really that hard.  Im getting closer and closer.  I know a bunch of y'all are probably shakin your heads thinking there is no way taht lazy SOB can get up out of that office chair and do any type of excercise other than to exercise is jaw muscles to woof down those hostesses cakes in the morning.  Well SURPRISE SURPRISE! YOu just wait...cause like I said it is real easy.  All I do is jump in the truck.  I know now you are thinking...what? Jump in a truck.  Yulp thats all there is to it...Jump in the truck.  Then drive to the local liquor store ..buy you a six pack .  If you are from around these neck of the woods everyone has a roll of duct tape in their truck.  Just take the six pack..lay em out flat...still in the ring holders...3 on each side...tape em to your beer belly.  Waalaaa...... a instant 6 pack. See told you it wasnt hard...

Tyler... thanks for this link.  I checked it out and the whole plan seems so simple---- of course sticking to it is another story.  My bald head (completely sly by this Friday) really does make me want to go back to the gym and hit it hard.  I have not been to the gym in a few weeks because my wife had an accident.  My new sly look will be a motivator to get me back down to 175 lean muscle and the six pack I had five years ago.  If your ever in L.A.... stop by Gold's gym in Venice Beach so we can do a few sets together.  Peace!!!
