I've just skipped a day while in the hospital and when my kids got home from school and saw the stubble they said "Dad, You gotta go shave".
-
If I skip a day, my boys tell me that I "need to shave my spikes." Gotta love the things kids say.
As I am only one monthish sly, I haven't really had any comments about imagining me with hair. Me with hair is still fresh in everyone's mental image of me. I'll get back to you in six months on this. ;)
-
To be honest, I don't think people are used to me as being sly (only been 10 months with a 6 week hiatus to appease the Mrs.). The truth is, I just enjoy the feeling of being sly too much that I can't imagine ME with hair. I really don't think there's a whole lot of difference in how people view me.

No imagination needed with this pic, circa 1996

I'm with Schro on this one, not only can other people not imagine me with hair, but neither can I. Within the past week I've had a wife and a friend say grow it back. To which I reply, HELL NO!!!
One of the guys at work used to ask if he could see my license so he could remember what I looked like with hair. That worked.....until I got the DL pic updated.

I have a guy at church who really didnt like me with the shaved head, but he said it was cool, if I liked it. I walked up to a conversation between my wife and him and I heard him mention that he now couldnt imagine with me hair. Same as my wife...but I did get an odd comment from my wife the other day. We work across the street from each other...and I had on a new shirt that she hasnt seen me in yet. I was walking across teh street and she was like..who is that old man....and i guess I had turned around and she was like OMG thats my husband...LOL...imgaine taht...Boy I let her have it good. LOL....but she likes me being shaved. Doesnt matter if she does or not...I like it and thats the way it is going to stay.

I think that's the best comment ever! O0
I completely take it as a compliment!

Marty, What a great transformation. SLY was definitely the right decision for you! O0

I have people at work and church who can't imagine me with hair as I have only grown it back infrequently. My stepmom used to bug me to grow it back but has quit. But here is my pic with hair.

This past week during my hospital stay I went just a little over 2 days without shaving. My kids were all over me to shave. However, my wife asked me how long it would take me to grow it back like I used to have it (I can't believe anyone would even think of wanting that). But I think she remembers my hair better than it was. I really would rather not grow it back to prove it to her, though.

Ditto on that.

Yes, and it's probably worse than you remember, too. Bear in mind that you haven't seen it for what - six months or more? If anything, the thinning will have gotten worse. It took a long time for me to accept that I really can't grow anything significant on top anymore. There's just enough fuzz up there that I still have to shave it every day. It used to be that if I let it go for a day or two, it would look like some hair was growing back. But then it would just suddenly stop while the MPB fringe area continued to grow. That was usually the point where I'd end up shaving it all off again.

Wise choice Marty!

Only 5 or so people at my office ever saw me with hair. And yeah, With 2 days stubble, I dont even recognise myself, I have become quite use to my shiny melon O0

People that knew me with hair are split down the middle. Some like my Sly look and some think I should grow it back in. I have this one friend who was shocked! "You cut off all that beautiful hair!" My hair was all one length and went down to my shoulder blades. I'll have to dig around and find a picture for everyone.
Personally I prefer the Sly look. My wife says it makes me "hot"(wink, wink) 8) and that's all the reason I need.

Yes, I was 20lbs lighter in that pic. My weight goes up and down like a Duncan.

It's kinda weird, with the exception of my band mates, no one in my daily life knew me before I shaved my head. So now, when I let me hair grow for a few days, or a few weeks everyone starts to ask if everything is ok. ;D Then when I show up at work again all freshly shaved and shined up, they laugh and tell me that "this is what Vash looks like"... they think I look weird with hair!! ???

KC, I think you're right that she has a different memory, but I also think the wives often are in a type of mourning over the hair loss, a mourning that we've already gone through for a really long time that resulted in us being able to go Sly and happy. They also probably have a subconscious belief that some how, some day, our thatch is coming back the way it once was. On the other hand, we know all too well is gone, it's gone for good and it ain't never coming back--except perhaps on the back! I don't know how to handle that except to do what makes me as happy as possible--and worrying about the dying mop or developing fringe like a hairy toilet seat doesn't make me happy, I know it's dead and to the extent I can do so I have accepted the fact, subconsciously though I've got issues to deal with & I hope time takes care of it. I've got more time than hair so it better. Finally, even though some, like me, did a time with buzz, it is nothing less than a dramatic change unless all you're left with before you grab the razor is a very slim fringe and if most are like me, that's what I was avoiding by taking charge and owning it as a shaved head in paradise. "She who must be obeyed," just came home and it was a done deal. It would be interesting to run a poll to see how many just did it and how many consulted w/ or got the idea from their spouse or significant other before pulling out the lather and razor.

Major successful change iBald. My weight also fluctuates (eating habits, gym visits) but like my accepting less hair, I'm accepting a heavier me as I get older.
-
iBald: those extra few pounds seem to suit the sly look: like the shiny dome.
Marty: the bald look was the right way to go.
I think it is for most people. 8)

Rob--amazing change from hair to none. Im amazed.
