Title: Shaky ground
Post by: R o b 6 on October 30, 2007, 10:21:39 PM
Wonder if any of our California SBGs felt that earthquake tonight. Just a weak rolling motion here, enough to make the ceiling fans rock a bit. Imagine it was more obvious in the Bay Area.

I was in it!  Felt much bigger than it actually was - 5.6.  I was heading down the shaving aisle in Target when a huge jolt hit and something flew of the shelf in front of me and another Sly guy.  We both looked at each other and said - Holy sh*t!  Earthquake!  I then turned around and headed toward the door of the store and called my wife, who was also in the store, to meet me at the car where our baby and my mother-in-law was.

It was pretty crazy as people were screaming and running around inside Target.

Glad you're okay Tyler.  O0

Earthquakes are scary. I was in one recently too - here in Kent in the U.K!
It registered 4.1 i think or thereabouts & that was bad enough. Brought down quite a few roofs locally.

Not an experience I'm in any particular hurry to repeat.

Supposedly, people reported feeling tremors as far away as Sacramento. I'm about 15 miles NE of Sacto...didn't feel a thing, but I have experienced my fair share growing up & living in the Bay Area for 34 years.

Glad everyone is OK. O0

Just another reason for me to stay on the east coast, no quakes.

Yeah, us Californians can't wait until Nov. 1st. Seems like all the disasters happen in October (the 2006 mid-term elections notwithstanding):

1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake
1991 Oakland Hills Fires
1994 Northridge quake
2007 So. Cal Wildfires
last night's quake.

Hope Halloween goes smoothly.  :-\

Glad everyone is ok and just so you know, there are plenty of homes and land available in earthquake/fire free Midwest.

I too am glad everyone is OK.  I have only been in one earthquake before.  Yes here in the midwest...I live along the Madrid fault and we had one here  on June 24 of 2002.  I was sitting in my car eating my lunch at the park and it shook my truck so bad my drink fell off the dashboard...I actually thought someone was pushing my truck.  It registered a 4.6 on the scale...not enough for any real damage but enough to get everyone in  a panic.

I can honestly say that I've never been in the middle of an earthquake in my life.  Round here we have ice storms, tornadoes, and really cool chemical fires.

Can't say that's ever happened near here, but we're getting  hit by the effects of the hurricane tonight.
