Title: Products????
Post by: nomad on October 15, 2007, 07:13:20 PM
I was at work today and I pulled out my bald guys head wipes to clean the dome, and My coworker was givin me a hard time like WTF!?!?. I told her what it was and we started tolking about products and I came to the conclusion that I use more product on my head now than when I had hair. I thought it was funny, but I will never go back, I'm sly forever. I was wondering if any of you guys had this thought as well???

My hair had so much upkeep, I think its about even. Actually I think Sly cost less

Time-wise, I know that the 5 minutes shaving the dome is less than the time shampooing and then gelling and combing what was left of my hair. And on top of it, waiting at a barbershop -- or else buzzing it myself (followed by cleaning up all the little hairs) took a significant amount of time.

And if time is $ ... then I'm definitely saving by being SLY.

I agree wit PBurke that it does cost more as far as "product" is concerned. However, like Padre said, time is money. I know that I am spending less time shaving my pate than I was tending to it when I had hair. I'm willing to spend a little more money to save time.

I spend far less time and money on being SLY.  O0

No more hair gel, hair spray, shampoo, conditioner, and haircuts!!
That stuff is far more expensive than my head shave gear.

I kinda miss my dreds.  Cause with dreds you never really had to even wash your hair. :o :o

Thats a misconception about dreads actually. They are a lot cleaner than they look.

I am about even.

Shampoo and conditioner would get pricey, but so can shave products.

But I dont spend 20 - 40 bucks a month on haircuts anymore...

It's costing me more to shave than it was for haircuts. We have a Wahl Professional clipper and the Lovely Mrs. Schro would give me a haircut every two weeks. However, since I've gone sly, my scalp is extremely healthy and I'm not scratching my scalp all time. To me, that alone is worth any additional expense I may incur in my daily routine.

I spend way more now than when I had hair.  Of course the last time I actually had someone else cut it was in 1993, and then I only went about four times a year, I think a buzz was $7.  Then I bought my own clippers and buzzed it myself, usually once a week.

Regardless, the slick dome is priceless >:D.  And way better than cleaning up after a weekly buzz cut.

Spend just a little more but well worth it!
More shave cream and razors is about it!

I'd say money and time wise it's a toss up, but I'll take the convenience factor any day instead of driving to the barbershop, waiting my turn, having the hair cut and driving home. I can lather up and shave anytime I want at home.

DUDE! I spend a hell-of-a-lot less money being sly. Check out what I looked like with hair. Circa 2000-2001. I spent a lot of money keeping that hair quaffed. _paulie

I agree with Nomad here.  When I stop and think about it I was really spending a lot less money.  For me personally anyway because I didn't have much hair to begin with.  I always kept mine clipped down to about 1/8 or 1/4 inch with clippers.  I would use some moisturizing bar soap on my face and dome since I only had a little hair anyway.  Then I kept a "chin strap" kind of beard.  So I would shave my face about once every two days or so.  So when I look at it for my personal past upkeep it was actually cheaper.  Because I only had the one time cost of the clippers, a bar of Dove face soap that would last about a month or more.  Plus I was using the Dove bar soap to shave my face.  Now I constantly buy razor refills, some kind of scrub, some kind of wash, some kind of shave gel/cream.  Damn!  Makes me really wonder???   :-\ :-\ :-\

Spending more right now on supplies but this will taper off. I'm reading the shaving techniques of the bros here and applying some of what I read to my own routine. As I streamline my program the cost will go down. I also spend more time taking care of the dome and shaving now. When I had hair (not much) it was just wash and dry, now I pre-shave, shave, after shave, but it's cool because I'm actually taking care of my head.
Plus, it just looks a whole lot better than the toilet seat.

I have figured that with razors and headlube, etc,i'm spending $15 a month to be sly. No haircuts once every 2 months. They were $15.So yes,a little more expensive. But no grey or white hairs,no stubble,no remarks about hair colour, and nothing to get whisped during a slight breese or windy day!!!And when it is over 80 degrees???
Nuff said!
